Heck, I'd like to play them Saturday and Monday. Let's play an extra game vs. USC in lieu of our game at Pauley.

My biggest fear is that only 2 AZ starters get COVID and the PAC 12 finds that is the perfect time to play makeup games. UCLA already benefited by Riley being back and now they play Long Beach who they already played and beat this year. Your right. Arizona is do. If you listen Adia's press conference she said if teams had to forfeit they would come up with the players,

I cannot believe what is happening with this UCLA game. So now we have to go through weeks of practices without a game so UCLA can ramp up to play us and be totally ready and do it in crammed schedule. Only in the Pac 12 does this happen. Our conference is awful.

Well I'm glad the conference is not making teams forfeit. Anyone can get this virus no matter how careful you are. I expect the conference to do some P12 tourney seating penalty if teams have not been able to make up their games. Like make them play in the play in round.

Going to get all the Karens all riled up.

The University of Arizona now requires the use of surgical or higher-grade (KN95, KF94 and N99) masks in all indoor spaces on UA's campus where it is not possible to socially distance.

That includes sporting events held at McKale Center, a spokesperson on the UA's COVID Ambassador Team Hotline confirmed Thursday.

So here is my thought. If Az. travels to LA this Saturday to play USC they will not be required to incur the expense for a second trip to play UCLA. It will either be paid by the league or will not be made up. I do not think the league would require Az. to incur the cost.

Karens do not get riled up. Karens are riled up.

Edit: being a Karen means you don't have to get ready to speak to the manager. You're born ready to speak to the manager.

So am I understanding this correctly…. Any pac team coming off Covid protocol can just decide they aren’t ready to play even though they are cleared?

Or this only applies to UC schools?

The conference is trying to “protect” their top teams. So in other words if Stanford and Cal were available as make up games for us this weekend it would’ve been scheduled regardless how long each team has returned to practice. The conference thinks they’re being smart and in their “smartness” are going to fuck over Arizona scheduling wise in the future.

Which is why you get in whatever games you can with what 2 teams can play at any moment in time.

Can’t wait until we play 5 games in 8 days in the name of “student-athlete safety”.

I say we just do what the NBA is doing, but instead of signing random dudes to 10 day contracts for Covid relief, each team can bring back any former player from that school to fill out the rosters.

I imagine many of the athletes can handle that physically, pretty common for AAU teams to play 4 games in a weekend. I imagine many of the Euro U17 teams play a lot of games too.

But at least for AAU, college athletes are expected to play defense.

But then there's pesky thought that these are students first, then athletes.

Todays coronavirus cases in AZ just out..............14,888

Omicron is ripping through the AZ population. Only a matter of time before the UA BBall team gets hit.

After the UA is forced to pause for a couple of weeks and then returns, there is likely no way we will be able to complete the full schedule.

Here's my question for the PAC12 leadership. If the UA is unable to schedule two games against UCLA/USC (and can only play each team once) will we be forced to play the scheduled games in February (right now scheduled to be played in Tucson) in Los Angeles???

Will we receive the same deference from the conference leadership as did the LA schools??

I might disagree with that.

If the conference is forced to use new officials (say high school refs) the quality might actually improve.

IMNSHO, allowing fans in arenas during this Omicron surge is probably suicide for any team's schedule.

As a fully vaccinated fan, I would not attend.

Somehow, I hope we can limp through this period (it seems to maybe last only 4-6 weeks, hopefully), and still have a good end=of-season and post-season....

If the Feb games in Tucson end up being played on the scheduled dates, there is no chance they move the location. And Arizona should never agree to move it. Now if they get postponed, and we only have time to get in 1 meeting in, who knows? I would say wherever can have fans in attendance, which is more likely Tucson, but I assume the conference will favor the SoCal schools.

Unpopular opinion-

If it is just a matter of time before omicron hits all of us.... it would be better for AZ basketball it happens sooner rather than later. (I am not advocating any team member to test positive)

The majority of Pac 12 teams have already had it run through their programs which puts them in a competitive advantage since they do not need to test for 90 days following, which runs through the NCAA tournament at this point. Based on that logic, I would assume the teams that already have had it (Stanford, Colorado, Oregon, USC, UCLA, ASU, UW off the top of my head) will not have to cancel any games going forward unless it was only a portion of their team that came down with it.

I don't think this is that unpopular. Sure we don't what anyone to get sick, but COVID is not just going to go away, we are long past that point.

What might be a more unpopular opinion is that we need to stop worrying about cases in young, healthy individuals, like a college basketball team. Sure we don't want them to possibly pass it on to people that are more vulnerable, but if we continue on that path then there is just no end as it will always be a risk. Shooting for 0 risk is unfortunately unrealistic. Highly effective protection against severe disease is available to everyone, so it is time to hit the off-ramp on the currently endless path. Sorry if this is a little out there for this thread.

Okay, for those going to McKale, or the plays at Centennial Hall, here's some further word. Robbins made his decree from Mount Horeb on the caliber of masks required. But, per somebody involved in event management at the U, they're just requiring (and handing out) the routine blue single-use masks you see everywhere. (Ironically made in China.) It's possible they'll ask you to double-mask. That's about it.
