The reason that the tallest team in the nation takes 23 3's is because that's what the defense is giving us.

Easy to say "just get it inside" but when the paint is packed like the last 2 games you don't just force it in. That's why the lobs haven't worked. There is no room to execute that play as easily anymore because teams are scouting us and putting a body on the big rolling to the hoop.

UCLA set the standard for how to defend us. It's up to Tommy & Co. to adjust, which may be easier said than done with a hobbled Tubelis.

I said this in the other thread, but I wonder if the counter isn't some old Miller actions like screens to get Tubelis (or Ballo/Koloko) moving into the post or some dribble handoffs to keep the perimeter actions guard only.

Obviously, shooting better will cure a lot, but these are ways to hopefully be less stagnant when teams invest in attacking rim running bigs.

One would hope CTL is pulling together a bunch of counters as teams have adjusted to not just our style of play but our approach to getting easy buckets. That to me has been the key to our early success and the reason our assist ratio was way off the charts. When half of your makes come from uncontested dunks and lay-ins makes it a pretty damn efficient offense wouldn't you say?

Yes, making open perimeter shots will help but so would having some guys (AT, Benn and especially Kriisa) be able to hit mid-range shots. That's what UCLA excels at.

Yeah...if I had to peg another question, I wonder where the secondary break is? UCLA and ASU effectively kept us out of the primary break, but we seemed to always go to half court instead of mining any secondary break.

I totally agree with this. I was at the game and kept wondering if they were hurt... then I was thinking WTF is Tommy doing... then as the lead grew I kept thinking what balls that took from Tommy.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

So conservatively Tommy will get another $310k based on GPA of 3.00 (125K), P12 title (125K), Sweet 16 (75K), Final Ranking 11-15 (20k) and 25 wins (40K). Moma gets new shoes.

Yeah, plus at the time he signed the deal, he was going to have to pay someone to take his football tickets. With Fisch's latest recruiting class, he might be able to break even there.

The Seattle Times - Percy Allen

“They adjusted,” UW forward Nate Roberts said....

“They’re a well-coached team. They’re a top-five team in the country for a reason. They made their adjustments and started attacking the spots that are the weak points of our zone. And they hit shots. We couldn’t make our shots when we got the ball back.”

Arizona’s first-year coach Tommy Loyd made all the right decisions while outmaneuvering UW coach Mike Hopkins.

Essentially, Lloyd was content on Brown having a big scoring day while effectively shutting down every other Husky.

At times, it looked as if was 1 vs. 5.

Meanwhile, Arizona used its superior size advantage on the front line to pummel Washington inside and flushed 11 dunks that drew chants of “U-of-A” from the Wildcat fans.

Hopkins lamented Washington’s inability to slow down Arizona’s offense, which connected on 69% of its field goal in the second half. He noted the Huskies had 18 steals and forced 21 turnovers in their first meeting — a 95-79 UW loss on Jan. 3.

In Saturday’s rematch, UW had a season-low two steals and Arizona had just nine turnovers.

“We always talk about a cumulative effort, like our ball pressure, our gap help, our rim protection, the way we run the floor, the way we move on offense that way we offensive rebound,” Lloyd said. “We want to be relentless. We don’t want to ever let up and eventually we hope the dam breaks.”

Exactly, that is why this year’s team is reminiscent of the style from the Lute era. Arizona basketball has not looked this good in a long time.

And Lloyd took over a dumpster fire and has changed the culture and direction of the program overnight. One of the most impressive coaching jobs in recent memory.
