The game desperately needed an Aussie score. I was glad to see it and it woke the Chilean side up right away.

Good day so far. Didn't get the result I wanted out of the first game, but helluva save by Ochoa late to keep Cameroon off the board. El Tri wins, but problems await.

Spain/Netherlands? Stepped out of work for this one. Was worried Spain was going to walk with their opportunity to make it 2-0 late in the first. Save, then Van Persie happened. Then all hell broke loose. Dutch could have put another 2 or 3 on the board too. Chile needs to put some on Australia, but the goal differential in this game might not be as important if Chile gets a point against Spain considering the Spain/Netherlands result. I thought beating Australia's ass would be key to the battle for #2, but I thought it would be between the Dutch and Chile, not Spain and Chile, and I sure as hell didn't expect Spain to come out of the Dutch game with a -4 GD.

(Edited to remove reference to Oceania confederation. Apparently Australia slipped out to the AFC a while back)

That first five minutes of attacking from Colombia that led to their goal was some good stuff. An interesting team even without Falcao in the lineup. It could become a storyline, seeing if they can put something together on home continent in the knockout rounds.

Greece has shown some ability to possess and handle the ball into the forward third, but they are flailing when they get there. They don't have strong enough midfield play to maneuver through the middle...they are having to settle for desperate passes into the box.

South American teams three wins, zero ties and zero losses so far.

I'd expect that to continue with Uruguay v. Costa Rica

Through the first ten minutes it doesn't seem as though Uruguay knows how they want to attack. They string a couple passes together and then a cross comes in that none of the Uruguayan players seem to be expecting and/or the cross doesn't really seem aimed for anyone in particular.

This is a really good match. Uruguay is threatening constantly. Costa Rica has threatened a lot themselves. It's a fun game to watch.

Ponderous afternoon from Uruguay. Didn't have a plan or any cohesion in attack. Pretty undisciplined. Massive spacing between midfielders and defense.

I was surprised how ell the Azzuri played (or was it England crapping the bed one more time).

Is there anyone else you want to take a free kick other than Pirlo?

This Ecudaor/Switzerland game has rounded into an ok game.

1-1 in 70'

I think that goal for Switzerland in the 70' should have stood.

Honduras should consider sending more than two guys across the midfield line. I mean, I'm not soccer tactician, but 2 on 7 seem like bad odds.

What was Palacios thinking?

That will be called a penalty and yellow card (which for Palacios makes two yellows so peace out Wilson) every time.

I am fantastically interested in the upcoming Argentina Bosnia match.

I think Bosnia could be a dark horse, possibly getting out of their group and even winning a knock out game.

That said, Argentina could be primed for a huge run on their home continent. They seem to have many of the pieces in place for a monster run, but will it happen?? And can Bosnia travel all the way across the world and compete with or even steal a point from Argentina??

The first goal was a tough break for Bosnia. Messi had to work hard for that second. I thought Bosnia played well. I picked both teams to come out of that group in my ESPN bracket, and I have Argentina winning the Cup, but after today I'm not sure if their back line is good enough.

You can watch it in Spanish on Univision on local television. I know you can watch it on the Univision Deportes app.

Germany Win
Tie
Portugal Win

That's the rooting order for today. I'd rather see Germany rest players in their third game with victory in hand.

Yeah out for our game and then after ten or so days stewing about it back just in time to break a Ghanaese player's leg.
