The last thing the Pac-12 wants is an Arizona win. I fully expect us to get screwed by Larry's minions again.
Methinks Salty never watched the Dave Hall fiasco in Maui against San Diego State on Wednesday.
Arizona wins in spite of the Pac-12's officials and has never had any home field/court advantage with regards to any conference crew in any sport--unlike the 50/50 calls 11 other schools observably get on a regular basis.
Push the biggest brands and markets during football season, then level the competition during the basketball season. Just don't let the players decide who carries the conference banner.
It isn't a conspiracy. It's just business as usual in the Pac-12. And it will rear its ugly head to try and manipulate the outcome Friday.
Like the K.C. mob boss says in Casino, "Why take a chance?"

I at least booed Hall in Maui. It was interesting how they crossed the Az fans to go to their locker room but snuck out the back door to get back before half. Sneaky to avoid the wrath.

Re: Larry Scott
It's not a conspiracy theory. Scott runs the conference like a producer of reality tv. Make it interesting, advance the story line, don't worry about anything else.
Several have pointed out why Scott is shady: his interest is the financial well-being of the conference above fair play. There should be no question that the directives come from on high to slant in favor of advancing whatever situation increases revenue/exposure. Why else would the head official for football resign during the season? I'll hang up and listen to your answer.

Re: Larry Scott
The problem with all of that is we are talking about things that the FBI would investigate and Scott would serve jail time for, not just get fired.
His salary is not worth that much. There's just no motive for him to do that, especially in a conference where everyone shares the profits.

Without being labeled a kooky ass tinfoil hat wearing cave dweller that professes that deranged space aliens came to earth and killed JFK decades ago………….let's get real here as adults. And I know there are some smart folks here who know how the game is played, salty aside.
All of our big five mainstream conferences and even mid-tier divisions to some extent are annual multi-billion dollar semi-professional sporting entertainment revenue generators. The amateur label of these sporting events is a cloaking disinformation meme that coddles the low IQ element of the greater fanbases, and helps maintain the illusion that the games are still a somewhat wholesome endeavor that is reminiscent of a Saturday play ground game amongst friends of years gone bye in a Leave it to Beaver era long past.
Nothing could be further from the truth. And I know most of you smart folks know this.
The political architecture that resides within the big sporting conferences like the PAC 12, SEC, Big 10, ACC and the rest are collectively morphing profit centers that subvert the nature of the game, true fairness and institutional control and turn it into a pure profit top down driven business model. That’s where we are today.
Without going off the deep end too much and being condemned to exile for such extreme views, the truth can’t be stated enough. Political pressure, the good old boys club and general unspoken smoky room get together of interested parties are as evident in today’s market as it was 40 – 50 years ago.
Nothing has changed in its seedy underbelly but the money is by orders of magnitude larger. Hence the political maneuvering to promote selected interests above others.
A perfect example is the MSU situation that clearly shows a degree of questionable observations with them being consistently placed ahead of a better resume Arizona team. This is a prime example of powerful interests at work with clout and having some degree of input and outcome control.
The truth is that the Arizona Wildcats are the homely quiet girl at the dance that’s out of place and really not wanted and not suppose to be there. While on the other hand Oregon is the rich party favorite. The snotty, arrogant runway model that woos the crowd with her superficial appearance that the moneyed upper-crust see as their openly acknowledged favorite.
None of this shit is hard to figure out or even kept secret from the masses, you just have to be willing to look under the covers and ask the right questions and be willing to admit some ugly truths.
Simply put, Larry Scott and his ivory tower gang are hoping like hell Oregon beats Arizona on Friday. In kind, the play-off committee although being somewhat impartial for the most part and separate from this discussion are silently hoping for an Oregon win as well to alleviate a gigantic controversy or shit storm that may result from an Arizona win. Outside of us hardcore fans in Wildcat country no one really wants an Arizona win. I've known that from day one.
Do not expect the Cats to get any calls or any help as they shouldn't, but nether should Oregon, but they will I suspect.
The favoritism from the media and pundits leading up to the game and on game day will tell you all you need to know. I already know that answer and so does the good old boy club!

Are there corrupt people in high places including college athletics? Yes.
Will most pundits and college football experts be favoring Oregon to win? Again, yes.
But there will not be a grand conspiracy against the Wildcats on Friday. It is much more likely that we will get penalties because one of our players can't control their emotions (I'm looking at you Cayleb) than because of corrupt officials under Larry Scott's well manicured thumb.
Finally, we are behind MSU in the polls only because we have always been there and they are a name program. We will move ahead of them with a win Friday. No conspiracy, just how college football rankings work.
Why not Arizona? Bear Down and beat the Ducks!

All these conspiracy theories about refs purposely screwing anybody are just immature. Many of you guys just don't understand the officiating culture, which is always and every time, "get the call right". Period.
Enough.
That being said, every ref-even the very, very best, blows calls. And yes, there occasionally has been some bad apples.

The internet is filled with people who see conspiracies everywhere... Fact.
Even as corrupt as you think the PAC 12 is, they would not risk the embarrassment and financial risk by trying to fix a championship game... Blatant Speculation.
Greg Byrne is more honest, smarter, and has more friends in collegiate athletics than Larry Scott and he will not be screwed again by crooked refs... Fact.
Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean everyone is out to get you... Fact.
Avoiding reality by imaging "conspiracies" is a dangerous way to live. All that said, if we have a "He touched the ball" moment that costs us the game I will help you gather the villagers and torches to storm the PAC 12 headquarters and put an end to the monster.

I am not thinking anything will be fixed Friday but what I find as unusual is that the crew who worked that game went away from there norm over a whole year by quite a bit. As I said it could have been just a super clean game by ASSU but when they are asked about 6 interior line calls and 1 block in the back and why they passed that just raises eyebrows.
It raised enough of them to getthe athletic department to ask for a reply. Maybe its just preventative

ASSU is one of the least penalized teams in the country. Whether we want to admit it or not, that is a well coached team. Asking for a reply is about ensuring that the call gets done correctly. I'm much more interested in football this week than dwelling on past wrongs, but here are some quick answers, so you know where I stand.Katzenfreund wrote: Just like they would never "risk the embarrassment" to fix a Pac-12 tourney semifinal? Got it.
What is it now, a conspiracy theory or did the manipulation indeed happen? Is Byrne now a conspiracy theorist? Better get your facts straight before labeling others as "paranoid".
Nobody can say with certainty what will happen on Friday. But going through the history of recent scandals and events doesn't fall into the "paranoid" category.
Rush was the major problem in the PAC-12 tourney. He resented Miller for sending in video evidence of bad calls all season ( Like Miller was supposed to) and intimated refs and made them quick to call a T on Miller. If one asshole is the problem it is not a conspiracy, it is just one asshole.
Scott fired Rush, but he was late to take care of an obviously arrogant, bullying head of officials and resents Arizona and their fan base for holding him (Scott) responsible.
We got screwed in basketball, but that doesn't mean the PAC 12 or Larry Scott are always looking to screw us. We are meant to learn from the past not dwell in it.
I expect a fair game on Friday, but trust Greg Byrne to be a great advocate if there is another incident.
Re: Larry Scott
There is no chance. It is a move by the BIG 12 ONLY because they have no title game.pokinmik wrote:Sad thing is I wouldn't be surprised to see L Scott do something like this.
While I think Scott does not like Arizona overall, I do not think there will be any funny business, especially after there was already the basketball thing.
Re: Larry Scott
I know I was just half-joking. I'm glad nothing like that will happen.
Re: Larry Scott
The one thing I will say is it was Scott who fined Miller the astonishing amount of $25,000 as a result of that officiating travesty. He then said the fine would be forgiven if Miller apologized. For what!?!!! Byrne, Miller and RR know more about Scott and this conference's love/hate relationship with Arizona than anybody. I am certain they are doing everything they can in representing Arizona. We can believe that. Believe anything coming out of the conference? For me, not so much.

It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

Thank you, ANG. Not everyone wears a tin foil hat.ANGCatFan wrote:Quite a lot in this screed and more than I want to unpack on the most important week in Wildcat football history. So here are some quick answers to some of your paranoia.Gladiator Cat wrote:Guys,
Without being labeled a kooky ass tinfoil hat wearing cave dweller that professes that deranged space aliens came to earth and killed JFK decades ago………….let's get real here as adults.
I don't know who's more responsible for our ranking... The media, or our fanbase whose collective inferiority complex interprets every "possible" slight in the worst perceived manner, like the homely girl who walks into a dance, sees 2 kids laughing in the corner, and assumes they are laughing at the dress she is wearing.
In realIty, not many people pay attention to the homely girl... But maybe it's better she does not realize it. And that's what Arizona football has been for a long, long time. We caught everyone's attention at the party in Eugene and went from unranked to #10. Then we stumbled a couple times against decent competition, struggled against poor ones, and we're ranked where we deserved to be going into the last 2-3 weeks of the season.
That homely girls is growing into herself, and is starting to get noticed again. If she proves she's really grown into a hottie, and not just a girl who showed a fleeting sense of style, she'll have plenty of dates to the class reunion.
But people will continue thinking "Just because I am paranoid does not mean they are not after me".
Win on Friday and get one piece of needed help and the corner can be provided notice that it has officially been turned.

This is a VERY loose interpretation of what happened.ANGCatFan wrote:I'm much more interested in football this week than dwelling on past wrongs, but here are some quick answers, so you know where I stand.Katzenfreund wrote: Just like they would never "risk the embarrassment" to fix a Pac-12 tourney semifinal?
Scott backed Ed Rush greatly after the incident:

I do not find anything that rises to a fireable offense or a breach of ethics or a breach of the integrity of officiating or the program," Scott told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Tuesday.
"We will decide at the end of the season how we continue with him or not as part of the normal review as part of the coordinators," Scott said. "There was no part of the investigation … that would rise to the level of him being fired, so he hasn't been fired."
He didn't fire Rush until the overwhelming amount of disgust that came from Goodman's report. Scott even said right after the incident it had nothing to do with Sean Miller. Obviously a bold face lie.
You are also over glossing over Rush's significant shady history in the NBA and downright horrible reputation. Yet, Scott hired him.
I am not saying there will be shadiness on Friday, although I am expecting it. But you are losing sight of what really happened in Vegas as it gets further into history.

Re: Larry Scott
More evidence for the "refs were trying to give it to ASU" theory?
Re: Larry Scott
I was just about to post the same tweet. Even if he told ASU as well that's a really asshole thing to do. RichRod was very clear about not wanting any of that in the stadium.

Re: Larry Scott
That is unusual. Also why and how was the ref following the game? Could have heard at half but odd.
Re: Larry Scott
Depends on when he told Anu. If it was when the game was in doubt, totally wrong. If it was when they were taking a knee, no issues at all.AZCatGirl wrote:I was just about to post the same tweet. I bet they have cell phones in their pocket and they huddle up every now and then and talk. Or they overheard from the fans in the stands.Gilbertcat wrote:That is unusual. Also why and how was the ref following the game? Could have heard at half but odd.
Re: Larry Scott
Side judge hears from the fans or the players who probably relayed it to the white hat or umpire. RR might not have heard because he has the headset on but I can imagine the fans were yelling out that UCLA lost

Well, if all this conspiracy stuff is true, then Larry Scott is a symptom of it, not the cause.
Any commish is going to face the same challenges from "dark forces".
Arizona just doesn't stand a chance, I guess. Sucks to be us.

I guess I'm missing where I was loose or glossing over. I think you were looking for a disagreement instead of reading what I wrote.
I stated Scott was late in firing Rush. That is an abridged way of saying everything you accused me of leaving out.
I apologize for not saying that Rush was also corrupt instead of just calling him arrogant, bullying and an asshole. I can see how those comments make you think I was supporting Rush.
I am shocked you have time to pick nits when all I can focus on this week is how to beat Oregon and who else would have to lose for Arizona to play in the Rose Bowl.

Possible conversation,Gilbertcat wrote:That is unusual. Also why and how was the ref following the game? Could have heard at half but odd.
Anu - "Hey Ref, you know you are only calling penalties on us while we are playing a school known for cheating."
Ref - "Sorry, Larry just texted us all that Ucla was screwing up his plan, so now he needs the Scummies to win.
Re: Larry Scott
1290 just said the ref told Anu about the UCLA score after the last snap.
He may have seen the scoreboard

Re: Larry Scott
I dont think they showed it until the students rushed the field. Part of me wants to think the refs knew what this game was about to become and did miss a block in the back but didnt call any penalties on their last 4 plays.
