I don't understand firing him this year as opposed to last year. They knew what he was (a 9-4, 10-3 type guy) and he had that ridiculous tirade at the end of the season where he should've been immediately broken off. Much like Muschamp, I'm not really sure what they learned this year that they didn't already know, but whatever.

I assume Florida fan has about the same college football knowledge I have in a general sense. If someone had asked me five minutes ago who Jim McElwain coached, I'd have responded "Who?"

I can only imagine the "We're Florida and they're bringing in a coach most of us have never heard of?" riots of winter 2014.

All of it just points to being smoke (at least for me), with Freeze (won in SEC, recruited well in SEC, Florida gets well while screwing another SEC member) being the fire.

Freeze might choose to stay at Ole Miss, but when I hear "them" talking about him being offered a big contract and Freeze considering that contract or a nice extension from Ole Miss it makes sense to me.

It's a stretch way too far (imo) to think an AD at Florida would go to the state of Colorado to an unknown conference and pluck an unknown guy from relative obscurity and pay a massive $7.5M buyout to bring him to UF over all other candidates. It doesn't even sound like good smoke...more like ridiculous smoke but who knows, perhaps the Florida AD wants to lose his job.

And I've seen some random Florida fan on message boards eventually bring that up when talking about him..."Yeah, he was an assistant on those Bama teams right?"

Perception is important and name recognition wise hat's a long, long step down from Bob Stoops. Shit, that's a long step down from RR.

the Jim Tressel with Scott Frost as OC (head coach in waiting) thing is heating up for Nebraska according to some 'insiders' there. Apparently he has been "sighted" on campus today.

yes until theoretically the end of the 2016 season but almost universally the Nebraska people are confident they can get the reduced or waived. take that for what its worth.

It seems like Freeze turned down around a $4.2M a year offer from Florida and is going to sign around a $4.0M a year extension with Ole Miss.

It's becoming my favorite time of the year where a lot of fan bases have sources that Mora is interviewing/top candidate/will leave for another college team as he is their top choice, only to have him stay because that said team wasn't ever interested in him to begin with.

I think he leaves for the NFL, not another college program.

Agree. If he didn't take Washington (his one-time dream job) I can't see him going anywhere else in college.

I could see if someone offers him stupid money, but if he earns that cash from another college program, the NFL will also shell it out.

I was surprised to find out Brady Hoke hasn't been fired yet, but he has a meeting today with the interim AD to discuss "the future of the program."

Hoke has done a very nice job over four years of gutting what RR had built, so it will be interesting to find out if Michigan is up for some more gutting or if they will appropriately break the Michigan Man off.

LSU prides itself on big massive NFL type defensive fronts. The 3-3-5 is the exact opposite.

Gundy and T Boone Pickens are openly bickering at one another now. Could LSU just keep using the Ok St pipeline?

If RR were to leave, Byrne should tab Casteel to run the program.

Would fuck over RR's ability to bring his staff to LSU and we'd have a continuity for recruits and players.

But luckily, RR ain't leaving.

So screw up Arizona football just to spite RR & LSU?

We should scrap football altogether like UAB. That would really stick it to RichRod.

You're advocating for a Bill Stewart scenario.

So how's life in your bubble?

You're the only one even entertaining this possibility, Salty. You know that, right?

Both RichRod and Byrne have a completely different path for this program than anywhere close to your imaginings, but I guess you'll just have to be astonished rather than take any of our words for it.

Luckily, I don't think RR is going to leave.

But to play devils advocate... Who would Byrne hire?

Remember... The current roster and recruiting class have 3-3-5 players... A move back to 4-3 would mean 3 or 4 horrible years of defense and a rebuild.

What in Byrne's last two coaching searches (Mullen, RR) makes you think he would settle for promoting a coordinator?

Sure am glad we'll never find out how wrong you are Salty.
I heard a media guy say on the radio he doesn't think Casteel
even wants to be a head coach.

He's not HC material IMO. Too easy going. Doesn't like to travel for recruiting. Perfect where he is.

And Byrne did a thorough search before he decided on Mullen and RR. He didn't just promote from within. Guess he should have hired Tim Kish. He beat ASU, didn't he?

I remember reading that one of the reasons Casteel was willing to leave WVU in the first place was because RR promised to groom him into a head coach.
