2022 Season Thread

I think we're pretty good on the D line.

Starting: Hunter Echols, Kyon Barrs, Paris Shand, and Jalen Harris
Backups: Tiaoalli Savea, Dion Wilson Jr., Jacob Kongaika, Evan Branch-Haynes, Tyler Martin, Anthony Solomon, Ammon Allen, Kolbe Cage, Dante Smith, and Anthony Ward

Oh wow, I think we are very good on our DLine. Barrs is a Sunday player and our DEnds have taken a high step up.

OLine is the huge question mark. They need to improve but maybe the improved WB play will make them look better

As for LB, we need d see one guys to step up. CY and the Michigan transfer are really smaller LB’s who excel in the run gane and struggle in coverage. I think our safety group is more suspect but we will see

If the Dline players above average I will gladly admit my analysis was wrong but for now I think they are below average when talking starters and backups

I used to work for the CSU. Campus assaults are normally taken extremely seriously. CSU policy, or maybe state law, dictates that a women under the influence cannot give consent, period.

Although she did not give consent in this case, just stating that the "she was drunk and consented" defense would not work.

Didn't they stop it a few years back since they were doing it wrong?

They sure did which was a bummer. No clue if this iteration of it is the correct one but I hope so.

It seems the kids love it, the fans love it so I don’t get the issue with it

I like the shadowed numbers, and the better yet, the change to WILDCATS in the south end zone in place of having ARIZONA in both ends. Also like the red zone sideline. It’s now the BEARDOWN zone. Clean look.

Comment: It’s only the fourth game, but Arizona’s grueling non-conference schedule exacts a physical toll. The Wildcats are flat, and flattened.

Oct. 1: vs Colorado
Result: win
Record: 3-2/1-1
Comment: Back home and reeling from the beatdown in Berkeley, the Wildcats show they aren’t the worst team in the conference.

Oct. 8: vs. Oregon
Result: loss
Record: 3-3/1-2
Comment: We were tempted to pick an upset given how this series has played out in Tucson over the decades. But that feels a tad too obvious. Ducks win, and it’s not close in the fourth quarter.

Oct. 15: at Washington
Result: loss
Record: 3-4/1-3
Comment: The Huskies haven’t forgotten de Laura planting the WSU flag on their turf following the ’21 Apple Cup. On this day, they plant him into the turf, repeatedly.

Oct. 22: idle
Comment: Perfect timing, given what lies ahead.

Oct. 29: vs. USC
Result: loss
Record: 3-5/1-4
Comment: We expect significant improvement from Arizona’s defense (partly because the offense will be competent). But the Wildcats don’t have the back-line personnel to contain USC’s aerial game. Bet the over, whatever it is.

Nov. 5: at Utah
Result: loss
Record: 3-6/1-5
Comment: If the Wildcats hadn’t given Utah a first-class scare last season, they might have a chance to do just that this time around. But alas …

Nov. 12: at UCLA
Result: loss
Record: 3-7/1-6
Comment: Four quarters in Salt Lake City is no way to prepare for UCLA’s punishing ground game. Bruised, battered and staggering, the Wildcats put up little resistance in the Rose Bowl.

Nov. 19: vs. Washington State
Result: loss
Record: 3-8/1-7
Comment: How will de Laura respond emotionally to facing his former team? Not as well as his former team responds emotionally to facing him.

Nov. 25 (Friday): vs. ASU
Result: win
Record: 4-8/2-7
Comment: Herm Edwards sent Kevin Sumlin packing two years ago with a 70-7 wipeout. Will Fisch do the same to Edwards? Quite possibly, although we can’t imagine the Wildcats scoring more than 65.

I'm seeing more and more talking heads/prognosticators beginning to think a little higher of Arizona football lately. I'm not saying they think we're going bowling but just about everybody I'm seeing are taking the over and some by a couple of games.

7th? That would put us close to bowl eligibility, depending on OOC record! I think we'd all take this in a heartbeat. My expectations this year aren't that high, and frankly, the W/L record doesn't mean that much to me this year. I'll take a 3-9 record if most of the 9 losses are losing small, so as long as next year we turn a bunch of these close losses into wins.
