One of the off-season story lines was how JDL had to adjust to taking snaps under center in the Fisch offense, versus exclusively taking shotgun snaps at WSU. Lo and behold, against stronger defensive lines, we need to go shotgun...only we apparently haven't practiced it enough, so we had some bad snaps against MSU. My point is that Fisch also has some room for growth, just like the players. Part of The Process is either that you're going to be stubborn, stick to what you want to do eventually, and get your QB swallowed-up by stronger D-lines as you accept certain losses as your program grows. Or, it's that you're flexible and you practice sufficiently doing some of the things that should be anticipated as necessary in the near-term trying to pull upsets. It's not like it wasn't known that our O-line was a problem last year and it wouldn't miraculously improve to an all-conference unit with one more year of weight training and the adding of a true freshman, no matter how good he is. Anyway, I hadn't seen anything on JDL under center versus the bad shotgun snaps against MSU, so I thought I'd point it out.

Having three days to look back now, yes the bad snaps as well as De Laura holding onto the WAY TOO long hurt a lot of drives on offense. I was surprised the OL didn't draw more holding penalties given how much running around went on in the back field. In a way its good to get this game out early; like we thought SD State would be, this was a good measuring stick against what will be about the best Front Seven Arizona will see this season. I thought we still ran the ball ok and worked through the air well.

The good news about the bad snaps and holding onto the ball are these are very coachable fixes.

This was one bad game by some guys against the 2nd best defense the Cats will face all year

Learning experience and time to move on. A bowl is still possible. Improvement though is evident. Considering how bad they played they still had many chances in the 2nd half
