ASU at Arizona
This doesn't include stats from their last game, but I didn't feel like waiting for that to be posted on their official site. Here is the scouting report...
ASU lost at Oklahoma St 17-34 prior to the home loss to Eastern Michigan (21-30) which gave them their excuse to fire Herm Edwards prior to the NCAA addressing their recruiting violations and going with interim coach Shaun Aguano. Losses followed to Utah (13-34) and at USC (25-42) before a home win over Washington (45-38.) Then, back on the road and an ugly loss at Stanford (14-15), followed by a win at hapless Colorado (42-34.) UCLA proved too much (36-50), and with some injured and sick defensive players, they also dropped a road game at WSU (18-28) to clinch a losing season, prior to the 7-31 loss to OSU to close out their home season. Much of ASU’s offense centers around RB Xazavian Valladay. QB Emory Jones tends to target WR Ejijah Badger and limits his running to goal line opportunities. Defensively, ASU has good size and generates some turnovers, but their struggles on both sides of the ball are reflected in their record. While they don’t tend to get many big flashy returns, they have a solid kicking game in terms of converting field goals and limiting opponents’ field position with their punting game.

Hopefully JDL got that all out of his system, but the ASU DC has to be pretty happy.

I think we get good JDL next week.
Re: ASU at Arizona
Other than Arizona State almost always showing up more motivated for the Territorial Cup than Arizona, my big worry for this game is the matchup of ASU's RB X. Valladay Vs the Wildcats 125th ranked rush defense.
ASU's gameplan will be to control ToP and keep the chains moving behind Valladay who has been cleaning up on the ground rushing for over 1k yds and averaging well over 100yds/game through the second half of the season to include their last two games: 109 yds Vs Oregon State's 19th ranked rush D and 134 yds Vs Washington State's 26th rush D.
Arizona loses this game if the roster isn't as motivated and the front seven can't slow up Valladay.

Re: ASU at Arizona
Well, it never fails. So ASU's interim coach juggled his lineup slightly, including at QB. Not sure how much difference it makes to anybody, but here are "The Replacements":
QB Trenton Bourguet 5-11 185 RS-JR 71.54 % 198.4 YPG 8 TD/4 INT
TE Jalin Conyers 6-4 265 RS-SO 29.7 YPG 4 TD
C Ben Bray 6-4 295 RS-SO
CB Ed Woods 6-0 180 RS-SO 20 T 1.0 S
Stats are through Week 10. Considering the outcome yesterday, and depending on injuries, they could go back to the other guys, try somebody else, or whatever.
Just because ASU fired their phony hypocrite figure-head coach and some assistants, their rats fled in the transfer portal, and they're now struggling with an interim who was recently coaching high school, it doesn't mean they're suddenly washed clean of their past sins. The people who hired and supervised them remain. They cheated in recruiting. And the loser types who root for them giggled like the most pathetic of middle school girls when they were catered to by running it up in the midst of our worst struggles. (But it still didn't save Edwards.) Decent people like Smith and Tomey always wound down the clock running between the tackles with an insurmountable lead. We'll be better able to make more of a statement in that regard in a year or two. But for now, just get the W.

I should know this, but was Emory Jones benched or did he get banged up?TheCatInTheHat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 12:09 pm

Seems Jones is the much more experienced QB you'd want starting this game. And Bourguet's recent stats aren't impressive.

Re: ASU at Arizona
He was listed as the starter against OSU, and he was playing the couple of times I switched over to it during commercials. Don't know if Jones got hurt in their previous game or if they were hoping for better production. I don't know that I'd go with a smallish, less experienced QB, with the added issue of returning to where he played his high school ball, but that's their problem.

"Shaking My Damn Head"? Whatever, sweetheart...enjoy your tea and poetry book. It's a college rivalry, and splattering a little paint on some blob of concrete that frequently gets a fresh coat of paint is no big deal. If some ASU idiots want to try to paint our (real) A Mountain, that's fine with me. And, BTW, that's totally different from the vandalism of causing tens of thousands of dollars damage painting over the patina of statues, which should be prosecuted.

Knowing guys like Harris, Roberts, Echols, Young and Josh Donovan are out of eligibility but wondering if Barrs, CRW, Morgan and Cowings decide to walk in Sr day activities. Probably are a few more as well but can’t remember them all

Their coach had some good stuff about the game. He says he showed the kids the painted A. He showed them the altercation on our sideline. He pumped in our theme song during practice.
They take this rivalry seriously and we have had to many coaches recently who wanted to minimize it trying to get us to look at the “big picture”. We better be ready emotionally

ASU has something like the 84th ranked pass defense in the nation. Not great but not horrible. Throw our WRs at 'em and force them to stop us through the air.

My white hot hatred for all things ASU is burning bright today.
I hate their disgusting colors. I hate their ridiculous posturing as a sleeping giant. I hate their mostly out of state student body. I hate their lack of academic standards. I hate their reputation which makes our state look bad. I hate their willingness to cheat and risk the lives of recruits. I hate their students, staff, and alumni. I hate their team. I hate everything about them.

Re: ASU at Arizona
Fisch should have had the FB team watch the MBB team together to see what toughness is.
Re: ASU at Arizona
What the fuck are you talking about
Never have I ever thought the football team was soft or weak. They are tough and play hard for sure

Re: ASU at Arizona
I would definitely show them a super cut of our teams kicking the crap out of ASSU in all sports. Remind them that it’s bigger than just a football game. It’s for Lute, and Steve Kerr, and Adia, and Jennie Finch, and Terry Francona, and Chuck Cecil, and everyone else who put it all out there to beat ASU and be champions. The season isn’t a success in any way, shape, or form if we lose to those assholes.
Re: ASU at Arizona
They should bring in Kevin Eafon for pre game pep talk

I'm fucking pumped. Assuming they're playing this in the stadium tomorrow.

Yeah unfortunately my video card died and I'm not getting a cheap replacement till Monday, so my output is limited to 1 monitor.
I might still see if I can get my roommate to push some buttons to start it at game time but no promises.
