of course
Why sue Nike/Oregon? They were late to the game.
If anything sue SC for 10+year if planning into blow it up. They played the long game.

CY
Old Phil had talks after the LA schools left and who knows what was said. It was inevitable that both of those schools would head to the B1G and they ( B1G) had no appetite to kill the conference.
I have no doubt there was back room deals between Nike U and the B1G. Timing just had to be right. Now proving that is a whole other deal.

Rate better? On what platform and deal? When did Stanford and Cal get fans? And if they do get better ratings it'll be for a very short time by people just tuneing in to see a freak show and then changing the channel(?) once they realize they are watching pac football.

But it’s real hard to win a lawsuit when the plaintiffs are a bunch of stone cold morons who couldn’t find their ass with both hands.

Yep, very difficult to prove for sure and Phil could give them a 50m parting gift easy.

There's no conspiracy here dude. Pretty clear that neither Scott nor Kliavkoff knew what they were doing, or how to read a freaking room.PHXCATS wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:24 amWhen you take off USC UCLA Texas and Oklahoma and compared Big12 and PAC12 numbers the next three highest teams are Washington Oregon and Stanford for the last t yearsKillerKlown wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:01 amRate better? Yeah, yeah, Pac-X teams rated higher than Big XII teams after USC/UCLA & OU/UT left. However, that higher value was not as high as Kliavkoff thought it could be. To wit, the report that GK turned down a 30 mil offer from ESPN. Had he taken that, or even negotiated it up a tad, Pac-10 would likely still be a thing. BUT HE DIDN'T KNOW what a good deal it was. He didn't understand that linear TV as we know it is failing. And then he has the nerve to present a variable plan to the presidents who basically fired Larry Scott for the albatross of the Pac-12 network.
Well, at that point the math didn't matter. It was an unstable system; an unbalanced equation - A SINKING SHIP. All the good swimmers jumped to safety and the Pac-4 were left like Travolta in the meme from Pulp Fiction.
Fox and ESPN just came in to clean up LS and GK's mess. The end.

Re: Conference Realignment
This is spot on. Take the $30 mil from ESPN, and leverage the PAC-12 Network to try and get those games on a streaming network like Amazon, YouTube, or Apple. Could have made the deal for the money the conference owes Comcast, about $72 million, and included laddered payments for additional subs. May not have added any additional money to the pot, but would have wiped the debt of the books, plus wipe a lot of production payments the conference had to make, not owning the Network anymore.Capital Tiger wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 1:32 pmThere's no conspiracy here dude. I would say that if Scheer can take on ESPIN that he probably has some good info here. Maybe he doesn’t know what Fox and Nike U collaborated on but he probably has some great sources on this stuff

What happened to the money that Cox overpaid? You’d think if each school got the money somebody would have said something. Or did it go to a few schools? Or did it go to Scott?
$50 mil seems like a lot to not notice.

Re: Conference Realignment
Of course he does. But my point as I stated is that he wasn't in the room. We don't even know if his sources were.
But he is attacking everyone who disagrees with him and is acting like he was in the room. The people he is attacking also have sources.
Also these things are not absolute. One person (WSU for example) may feel a meeting went one way whole another (U of A) may feel another. The person reporting what WSU told them is not wrong and is not lying and is not making shit up if it differs from UA's sources' feelings on the meeting.
Scheer is good at what he does. I am saying him stopping the attacks on others (I am only commenting on this single aspect, not him as a person or him overall) would do UA and himself a ton of good

If so it went to the schools. Comcast was the one who errored. It is extremely hard to get number of subscribers data from cable satellite companies. These types of things you kind of do research on your own as a channel and get a range what you think a Cox or Comcast or Dish has and the see what they say they have. If they are close you just accept it. Or if it is different you audit it.
I know there is an anti PAC-12 Network narrative out there and yes they should have known it wss too high but the vast majority of the blame on this is on Comcast for counting regional feeds and main feeds separately when they should have been counted as one

Re: Conference Realignment
Not looking good for Stanford and Cal. Curious how they'll handle this since Cal needs money and Stanford would probably rather be independent.

Re: Conference Realignment
One possible strategy for Stanford and Cal, along with WSU/OSU.
They get a 2-year grace period for remaining a conference (with less than 8 members), so that means they could exist as a 4-team conference for the 2024 & 2025 seasons. Play a double round-robin in 2024. Pick the 4-6 most desirable programs from the Mountain West and/or AAC, but give them the time they need to join, so some may join in 2025, some may not join until 2026. Need a TV/streaming partner for those years for sure, but they could pick up, say, San Diego St., SMU, Gonzaga hoops/olympic sports, Boise St. (swallow your pride, Stanford - it's what got you into this mess), UNLV, then maybe Colorado St and Tulane? There you go - a new Pac-10 is born!

Re: Conference Realignment
The easy answer is they just join the MW and become the 5th big conference. 16 teams, even if most aren’t powerhouses, should be enough to get a new TV contract at least on par with what the PAC-9 was poised to get.Capital Tiger wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 7:59 pm One possible strategy for Stanford and Cal, along with WSU/OSU.

But I get the feeling Stanford really doesn’t want to be associated with UNLV and San Jose State.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: Conference Realignment
Yeah, I think Stanford would rather be alone than "lower" themselves into being in a new MWC. Their pride is too much to overcome for more money and exposure.

Re: Conference Realignment
If we assume that the pac-4 are the 4 most valuable teams, or at least 2 of the top 6 or so, then they need to determine who the 6 most valuable teams are in terms of TV viewers and add them. It stands to reason that this Pac-10 would be more lucrative per team than if any/all of them were to join the current MW or AAC.
The only sticking point in this case would be those teams' willingness to leave their conference mates... HAHAHA as if that is an issue for anyone!
