I remember Walton just collapsing after that game on the court. Probably one of the greatest games I ever saw.

Can't find anything more recent. Robbins has more things to worry about, like saving his own ass.

He should wait, any extension they give now will be dwarfed by what he will be able to command after a final four/Natty!!

Bobby's gonna let this slide to save his arse and have it cost an extra 10 mil, and he'll still get fired!
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

I'm worried, unless Captain Obvious weighs in.

This has been discussed elsewhere, but the only job I'd be a little nervous about, were it to open soon, is Gonzaga.

Lloyd may not be thrilled at the prospects of the ABOR sticking their political noses into an athletic department run by an interim AD. But UW hoops isn't UW football, and Tommy Lloyd isn't Jedd Fisch looking at the prospect of trying to equal or top a bit of an unexpected dream football season for an Arizona. Not to impugn the internationally recognized acumen of Take The Over or anything similar, but it kind of reminds me of right after we hired Lute Olson, when some Arizona fans bellowed that "we should just grab Hayden Fry, too." Having seen UW's cute little purple palace, the facilities in Spokane (as well as Spokane itself), I'm not concerned about either. Tommy took the step to become head coach of a top ten program. Just as with Lute, our only worries should be about programs like Kentucky and North Carolina.

While at Gonzaga, Tommy/Mark played UW regularly enough to consider the Dawgs the in-state rival. Besides, he wouldn't feel a thrill sitting at Lorenzo's desk. Still, I'd prefer for CO to face-plant on the matter just to make it a certainty.

Plus if he took the job he'd have to play Gonzaga every year, and we know he doesn't like going against Few unless it's a tourney situation.

That's probably the best point. Tommy has a ton of grace, gratitude, and respect for regional identity.

I question how many UW fans actually bought this rumor.

Fisch leaving for a team that just lost in the national title game is one thing. Even though our football team had a phenomenal season, we're still not really close to being a "football school."

We're a basketball school, and I'm not even sure how far back you'd have to go to find a coach who left the Arizona job. We've had only three coaches over the past 41 years (not including interims). Lute never did, Sean got fired, and Tommy's not going anywhere.

Myself, along with several other posters here, had 3 basketball coaches in the 4 years I was a student.

UA was definitely a football school then with Larry Smith.

True dat. I'll never forget when Lindsey was here and they brought the San Diego Chicken into McKale trying to drum up some interest, and he more or less shook his head and raised his arms and gave up. Obviously, post-Smith, Tomey hit some peaks, too. Just not enough administrative (financial) commitment to football to make it more consistent, as well as some misses in hires. Hopefully after the demise of the Pac-12 and maybe a little better understanding by the pencil pushers of what drives media rights, we'll have a more consistent focus on both football and basketball. We're not a Big East school.

Not sure if Tommy's buyout out is known, but Scheer said during his newest podcast today that Tommy's buyout is $20 million. So unless Kentucky gets tired of Cal and wants Tommy we're safe. Though even then Tommy seems so happy in Tucson I'm not sure he'd leave.

Yeah Scheer doesn't know for sure, but the buyout is typically the amount of money remaining on the contract, so $20 million is a good estimate for this offseason. Even if Kentucky wanted Tommy, that is not a job he would take in a million years. He's not wired the way you need to be to be the head coach of Kentucky.

Really am curious what the buy out is since this is donors money and not the states. There is no typical buyout. It is negotiated in all contracts and is different for each coach. I hope it is a huge amount that is revolving with every year it is extended.

If he said that he is lying. We also had a donor to tell him what he wanted he would get for him and shook his hand. Just like Tommy our donors made that happen without state funds being increased.

He’s in his third year.

I would expect he gets re-upped in the third year of this deal. He won’t be below a $9mil buyout if that’s the case.

Don’t deals get re-upped yearly anyway? If you keep tacking on a year at the end you’d think they could keep resetting the buyout.

Hate to dogpile, but you don't go on Jim Rome and do the sport show circuit professing your undying love for Wilbur and Wilma, and then several weeks later do pep rallies in Seattle. All of this after having a handshake deal with our boosters.

What sucks more is that he's still trying to poach our players. Wrong thread, I know, I know...
