Where to this weekend?
Headed out over the holiday?
As we remember those who gave what Lincoln called "the last full measure of devotion" and hope that, collectively, we never again hand power to an insane criminal who tried to take our democracy from us; wondering if you're traveling and where to.
Mrs CD and I are headed to the beach in San Diego to give my elderly mother some care.
Happy Memorial Day fellow citizens.

Re: Where to this weekend?
Can't imagine traveling anywhere this weekend. Even when I was working. I used to take Friday before holidays off, otherwise the Friday commute home would be terrible.
If your mother has a handicap placard, use it to your advantage. Parking is terrible at best in SD, and if you have a handicap placard you can park in any metered space for free.
But I imagine a lot of Zonies will be heading there to the beaches and clubs, and to enjoy the 30 degree drop in temperature.
Never been to a place that has such good restaurants. Maybe when I lived in San Francisco in the 80s.
One of my nieces is in San Francisco right now, beating the holiday crowd.

Re: Where to this weekend?
No travel just because we know everyone is headed somewhere. For us it’s the couch, the pool and the BBQ pit with a cold one
Waiting at the Rose Bowl patiently for the cats to arrive

No travel for us. My boys are driving up from Phoenix to visit this weekend though.

If you want fresh seafood either as a meal of for take home to cook, try El Pescador on Pearl St. in La Jolla.Carcassdragger wrote: Thu May 23, 2024 8:17 am Headed out over the holiday?

We NEVER venture out on major holidays.

We are actually headed out on a little beach adventure the day after Memorial Day…. Planned purposefully to try to avoid the masses

Heading to Disney on Saturday even though my kids are grown. My wife’s sister and her family are going too.
Since I travel so much for work it’s my way of thanking my wife for handling shit at home while I’m away.
Will suck it up for a week but not that excited.

Does driving from my suburb into Chicago count? I am crossing state lines…

Re: Where to this weekend?
I go to Michigan for that. Which will actually be my first stop tomorrow morning.

Practically a full-fledged road trip at that point.

Is it longer than 50 miles?
NPR said this morning that this will be the biggest traveling Memorial Day in 20 years using that distance.

45 to Chicago
But if you count my trip to the dispensary this morning I’ll be at 75.
Look at me, the traveling man.

Re: Where to this weekend?
Not on the weekend, but on Wednesday I'm flying to Tasmania, Australia's coldest State, for the first week of Winter.
Oh joyfullness.
Its the wrong time of the year for me, but its (probably) the last hoo-fa-rah for a good friend who likely cannot remember who I am anymore. His wife wants one more wine tasting trip with him and will need all the help and support we can give.

A 1g cartridge in Chicago will run you $85-$95.UAEebs86 wrote: Fri May 24, 2024 11:29 amWhy do you use Michigan dispensaries vs. Illinois? Cheaper, less tax?
In Michigan I can get them for $12-$20.
And the buying experience is about 3000% better. You can actually interact with a budtender, ask questions, and see the product. In Chicago it’s a counter with a guy behind it who goes in the back and grabs the order you had to place through their app an hour before.
