Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
This reminds me when our football team played Penn State in 99. This game could set UCLA back for years to come. They don't even look like a college team.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
Going to watch a high school version of the nutcracker. Bound to be more entertaining

That's where you are UCLA.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
I wonder if Alford is regretting that home and home series.

Whichever one you take to get to Pauley.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
This is really tough. UCLA has some real issues, first and foremost they have tuned Alford out IMO. They don't even compete.
This is the type of game that sends a program and coach one direction or another. Do the Bruins have the resolve to change the direction this dumpster fire seems to be headed in? Lets hope so for the conferences sake

It's not effort? Bullshit Alford. The team has quit. Anyone can see that.

But, but, but...I thought the mystical aura that pervades the "tradition" and "legacy" at UCLA is what keeps it a viable, elite program.
I hope every guy being recruited by UCLA crosses them off their list.

UCLA fans don't even buy that crap anymore. Continual underachievement, football and basketball, has turned Bruins into realists/pessimists.Beachcat97 wrote:But, but, but...I thought the mystical aura that pervades the "tradition" and "legacy" at UCLA is what keeps it a viable, elite program.

Guerrero needs to be waiting at LAX. And when he gets back to the Morgan Center, the locks need to have been changed.

Correcto-mundo. UCLA fans aren't stupid; they've correctly identified Guerrero has Bruin Enemy #1. For years he's pampered all the smaller, non-TV sports like water polo, giving himself political correctness points, while cowering to the fiery competition of keeping the football and basketball dollar factories running full speed.MrBug708 wrote:Guerrero needs to be waiting at LAX. Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
Our game against UCLA this year (or games, if we see them in the Pac tourney) only really matters if we lose. If we win, it doesn't move the needles on our RPI or BPI or other important metric because UCLA is absolute dogsh*t. But if we lose -- oh boy, if we lose -- it's a loss to a non-tourney team that will jeopardize our chances for the #1 seed in the West, provided others are giving chase: Wisconsin, Virginia, L'ville, etc.CalStateTempe wrote:wait...it was 41-7 at one point?

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
Michigan looks young, UCLA looks like they have no leadership or fight. I am really disappointed in this. The conference needs the Bruins to be formidable.
I feel bad for Bug and Bruin fans and I agree Bug, your AD needs to at least have a strong c inference with Alford and maybe the players

i loved the play in the first half where Bryce tries to drive right baseline, runs into/gets swatted down by a Kentucky player before be reaches the free throw lane and goes down like a house of cards/ like a little kid would go down on his right bum with his legs all folded under him. It was kind of hilarious. Would love to see a gif of that.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
So how much of an impact -- if any -- does yesterday's destruction of UCLA have on the Brown and/or Zimmerman recruitments? How can a program mired in mediocrity and trending downward attract guys of this caliber?
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
Most recruits don't care about winning, they care about the school being an nba showcase
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
Is UCLA a good NBA showcase? They're not on ESPN, and they haven't sold out a home game since the 70s.ASUHATER! wrote:Most recruits don't care about winning, they care about the school being an nba showcase
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
As delusional as BC might be, UCLA is still UCLA, sorta like Indiana is still Indiana but with much more fan support. Recruits may not have witnessed the 70s but California recruits know what UCLA has done and temhe brand they carry. They're going to get recruits unless they're totally irrelevant which I just don't see happening.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
UCLA sucks so bad, lol what a joke. Perhaps the bball team should take a cue from FB and do some emotive face-painting for the games
I trust Rich Rod sent UCLA a Xmas card thanking them for the massive P12 south choke job when they shat all over themselves at home against Stanford.

I think UCLA plays us a whole hell of a lot closer than they did Kentucky. Just the way it always is.

It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
And no doubt it'll be a comparative metric too, POM.
Even the lousy '87-88 UCLA team took what is generally regarded as the best Arizona basketball team ever to OT in Pauley.
Too many strong voices are too in love with the numbers of this UK team, and not the one-game potential of several teams with superior dynamics and coaching to beat them.

UCLA will always be attractive to kids who want a big city Adidas showcase. They're getting good talent now, it's just that these kids need to be coached up and to believe in the process.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble?
Exactly. They're usc with much more tradition. Actually usc football is a good comparison. They were on probation but guess what, usc is still usc in a huge desirable market.Chicat wrote:UCLA will always be attractive to kids who want a big city Adidas showcase. Just waiting for the obligatory "we're their Super bowl" exclamation of the perpetually poorly motivated team. Which will come back to haunt when ucla loses by 30
