2025 New York Yankees

Post by Chicat »

If they don’t re-sign Soto, there’s something broken in the front office. All he cares about is money. Give it to him.

Chi, we both know how Hal works. I would be absolutely mind blown if he pays for Soto.

If I’m in Hal’s ear, here’s what I’m saying…

We had 7 extra home games due to the playoffs and World Series which we definitely would not have reached without Soto. At $10M* per game in revenue that’s $70M in additional money we earned that wasn’t planned when we budgeted. Juan Soto will have us in the playoffs every year. He pays for himself. And that doesn’t account for all the additional merchandise opportunities and fan interest we’ll have if he signs long term.

*that’s the 2023 average regular season take, so likely even more for the 2024 playoffs

Soto to the Mets for $765M.

I can’t believe the Yankees allowed themselves to be outbid. But then again I guess I can.

Glad the calm rational fans are getting platformed.

Hal could have gone ten million more. He got outbid. Because he’s not his father. He’s not a winner. Don’t be mad at Soto for not taking the losing bid.

I am just happy he didn't end up with the Dodgers, had no illusion he would end up back in pinstripes. Now lets be stupid and give that money to a washed up never was like Pete Alonso who we will be wishing we could cut in two years.

Only in the sense that it shows they are willing to spend, the player himself I am not huge on but this FA class is not that deep, nor are any with the way that the MLB system works. We aren't getting Sasaki, I would have preferred Corbin Burnes but he probably would have been a worse contract and Snell is gone.

The Yankees are in talks with the Cubs about acquiring Cody Bellinger but in true Cubs/Yankees small market mentality fashion the hold up is whether the Cubs will have to eat some of his salary.

AS IF THAT SHOULD MATTER TO EITHER OF THESE TEAMS WHO OWN THEIR OWN FUCKING TV NETWORKS

Yankees are dealing. Trevino to the Reds for a RP and a backup Catcher.

Word is that Goldschmidt & Arenado are also on the radar but I’m not sure how they make both of them work.

Goldschmidt to the Yankees.

Really hope this isn’t a Josh Donaldson signing.

Luckily it is only one year, rumor is that it is to keep them flexible to add Guerrero Jr long term at 1st base. I like the Goldschmidt add much more than Walker at the three years the Astros gave him. If we can just add a decent third/second base bat (preferable not Arenado since he is washed and overpaid) to counter Jazz at the other position and an arm or two I would call the winter a success. The farm system is still depleted which makes in season trades pretty difficult in less there are some major improvements in development over the winter (or at least some perceived developments that we can sell high on).

How would you feel about taking a flyer on Bobby Dalbec? Maybe an invite to spring training, minor league deal?

THE YANKEES ARE GETTING RID OF THEIR NO BEARD POLICY!!!

This makes me unfathomably happy. Like way happier than it should. But bearded Judge is gonna hit 120 bombs.

Let’s go!!!

I was just thinking that this is a classic fuck the players move by making them all show up to spring training clean shaven and then announcing they can have beards, but if you’ve got 6 years of length on yours I highly doubt it’s going to meet their “well-groomed” standard anyway.

Boone getting extended and a “Grizzly Adams” looking team is just too rich. Only thing better is Soto looking like Mr. French.

Can’t wait to watch the soap opera this year.

Went from one of the best rotations in the league to bottom half just like that.

They are getting back insurance money on Cole for this year. Fans will lose it if the Yankee brass end up not reinvesting to better the team.

This has been the way since George's passing, so really any fan losing it has not been paying attention.

Hate the Yankees but I'll always cheer for Austin Wells. Dude made history with that homer!

First opening day lead off homer by a catcher in MLB history, and the first opening day lead off homer in Yankees history.

Fucking awesome. I think he’ll have a big year.

Goldschmidt, Bellinger, and Judge went back-to-back-to-back in the first inning off former Yankee Nasty Nestor Cortes to start the game, then Austin Wells hit a homer in the same inning and it’s the first time the Yankees have ever hit four homers in the first inning in their history.

Setting all sorts of records in the first week. On a hunch I picked up Nestor in my fantasy league this morning so I do get some credit.

Yanks now have 8 homers tying a team record for a single game. Judge has three of them.

It’s the top of the 5th… :D

Judge just doubled off the wall. He was about two feet from his fourth homer. Simply unbelievable!
