Ernie Banks
RIP
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: Ernie Banks
This one really hit me hard. He was the 1st baseball player I ever heard about, my father and grandfather made sure of that... Telling me story after story about him, long before I could ever really understand.
1st African American to play for the Cubs, 2 time MVP, 14 time all star and Cubs never made it to the post season while he played.

Same here Alieberman.
Lived in Chicago until I was five - he was my favorite player back then. I still have faint memories of watching his games with my dad on WGN.

Re: Ernie Banks
Yep, the death of Mr. Cub is hitting me hard also. I remember listening to the 69 Cubs on radio. He was a wonderful man who was approachable. He will be missed.
Re: Ernie Banks
He was not only Mr. Cub, he was Mr Baseball IMO. Great, great shortstop. All of Chicage must be mourning today as is baseball.

Re: Ernie Banks
He seemed like a really nice guy too in all the interviews he did.
I don't watch any baseball now, so those were really some special days for me. A real golden era for baseball.

"Let's play two".
Says it all about the man. RIP Mr. Cub.

Re: Ernie Banks
I met him at a baseball card show where he and Fergie Jenkins, Billy Williams, Ron Santo and (am forgetting someone else) were signing autographs. Anyone who went to those knows it was sign and keep the line moving. He spent probably 30 seconds asking me if I played ball, who my favorite player was, etc. In a brief encounter, even as a young kid, I could tell he was a special personality.
