He's been fantastic. MVP. Found his Duquesne shooting touch.
Right where I want to be.

Does this mean we can no longer expect someone to post PJC's superior BIRD #'s, implying that he should be getting more of TJ's minutes?gumby wrote:He's been fantastic. MVP. Found his Duquesne shooting touch.
I hope we get PJC back soon... Kid plays an important role for this team, and I look forward to him having a bigger role on future squads.

Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
So.. Nearing the finish line, what is the board's feeling on him winning Pac12 POY? Seems it is between him and Wright now. Not sure how the voting process works, but chances of Stanley stealing some votes that otherwise would have gone to TJ? Or TJ being punished because we are so loaded?
Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
Joseph Young might steal more votes the SJ. MOP should come from the champion

TJ should win, but he won't.
Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
Joseph Young would be a Sean Lampley-like choice in 2001. Arizona and Stanford were the dominant teams, but had more balance.
Kevin Pangos just won it in the WCC, though Wiltjer, Haws and many others scored a lot more. Pangos, 11.6 and 5 assists.
I think it should be TJ, but predict it will be Wright.

By this standard, Stoudamire (co-MVP) and Terry wouldn't have won. But TJ is still the right choice.Chicat wrote:There have to be voters out there like me who will automatically look at the most important player on the best team.

Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
My observations,
Kid is solid like Jason Gardner was, Not the most flashy we've had or big time NBA potential but above average player very consistent and dependable, no up and down games. When it's crunch time, the ball is in his hands and we need some leadership and something to happen my butt don't pucker like it has the last 6-7 years. For a long run AZ has always had the best PG in the PAC. He's the first PG in a long time where after watching all the other teams I don't say to myself I'd trade him for someone else. 1) Wish we had him 4 years, 2) hope the fans rock the house Sat night for his last game.

As much as TJ keeps saying that we will ge fine at the PG next year with PJC we all know the play from that position will take a step down for awhile.
He has been incredible, almost like Steve Nash. He is the MVP and I can't wait yo hear the fans rain down those chants again Saturday

Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
So TJ won't win the POY, I think it goes to Delon Wright.
My guess is that in the end, that will be good for TJ. Got bigger prizes ahead.

Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
I just think that too much factors into the decision. For one, Arizona will have the same record as last year provided they win tomorrow. The justification for Delon would be that Utah has improved so much, and is an NCAA team this year.Alieberman wrote:Ive been thinking that TJ wouldn't get it but the national media is finally starting to talk about himOlsondogg wrote:So TJ won't win the POY, I think it goes to Delon Wright.

Just my thinking. Hope he does, cause it's nice to have some trophies...but a guy like TJ doesn't really care about personal accolades...just winning.

Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
I think he has a chance only because the coaches vote. They know what a player like TJ means to a team.
Re: TJ McConnell's 'MAGIC' Numbers
I also see them looking at the supporting cast and thinking that their own PG would be good with those other four players...

I think it's a joke if he doesn't win the pac POY.
but it wouldn't surprise me.
I also think it's a joke if Miller doesn't win COY.
but it wouldn't surprise me either.

Yes, biggest thing in his favor.UAEebs86 wrote:I think he has a chance only because the coaches vote. They know what a player like TJ means to a team.
His midrange game is automatic now. He looked like the most dominant player (not the best, not the most valuable or important, the most dominant) in the Pac 12 in the second half last night. For a stretch it didn't matter what Cal did, TJ was either putting the ball in hoop, or the team was putting it in with a wide open look off a TJ pass. It was like watching Rondo circa 2009-2010 and giving him a midrange shot.

BTD's Post Season Pac-12 Awards
Pac-12 POY: T.J. McConnell - Arizona
Pac-12 COY: Dana Altman - Oregon
Pac-12 FOY: Stanley Johnson - Arizona
Pac-12 DPOY: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson - Arizona
All Pac-12 Defense:
F Rondae Hollis-Jefferson - Arizona
G T.J. McConnell - Arizona
G Gary Payton II - Oregon State
F Norman Powell - UCLA
F Delon Wright - Utah
All Pac-12 First Team:
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson - Arizona
Stanley Johnson - Arizona
Kevon Looney - UCLA
T.J. McConnell - Arizona
Chasson Randle - Stanford
Gary Payton II - Oregon State
Norman Powell - UCLA
Tyrone Wallace - California
Delon Wright - Utah
Joseph Young - Oregon
All Pac-12 Second Team:
Bryce Alford - UCLA
Brandon Ashley - Arizona
Anthony Brown - Stanford
Josh Hawkinson - Washington State
Nigel Williams-Goss - Washington
I'm sure Tinkle and/or Krystkowiak will win COY, but Altman deserves major love for what he's done at Oregon this season. That program could have been completely sunk, could have then crapped the bed during conference play, but that team is gonna be in the dance when its all said and done. Altman is a great coach.

Why does altman deserve love for creating a situation that he then had to deal with? fuck that. Sean Miller is COY in my book.

If Derrick Williams was the Sean Elliott of the Miller era, TJ is the Steve Kerr. Completely different kind of player, but an emotional leader who will never be forgotten by any true Cat fan. Kid is absolute nails...
Now he just need to lead the Cats to the first Final 4 of the Miller era in his (fifth year) senior season...
