I remember back at TOS, we had a couple really cool X fans talking about Miller when he was 1st hired.

They played a match up zone today like Ohio State. They don't look very bid though. We should kill them on the boards.

For the record, since everyone seems to like to talk about UA's "horrible" losses, Xavier has also lost to some lousy teams as well (e.g. DePaul, LBSU, etc.)

Hahahaha, lolol.

That is the best OP ever for this game.

Remember kids, Miller was blasted by his former team when he told a recruit (Kevon Parrom?) "Xavier is like a Buick, Arizona is a Lexus."

If memory serves me, he made the Buick/Lexus comment during his press conference at Xavier when he was leaving. Said something like going from Xavier to Arizona was like going from a Buick to a Lexus. He was trying to come off as complimentary to Xavier, but Xavier fans took it as an insult.

I wonder if they still get pissy when you tell them that their program is a mid-major. I remember that was a really sensitive subject with them. That and they hated being called "eggsavier"

No coach would do that... You don't diss the school you are leaving. Kevin Parrom leaked that Sean Miller quote.

Well in So. Arizona, Xavier it's pronounced "ha-vee-air". I doubt they like that any better.

I pronounce it "tha-vee-air" like I'm a lisper or from Spain. Makes it sound more exotic than just another Ohio school. That should make them feel "thpecial".

For Lute to get to his first FF with AZ he had to go through his old school Iowa on the way. Maybe history is replaying itself?

Played Iowa in the sweet 16 as a 1 seed (Iowa was a 5). We won by 20. Played them again in 96 round of 32. Won by 14.

I was at the first game Lute coached the Cats against Iowa and they lost at McKale. I remember there were a lot of Iowa fans who made the trip and Brad Lohaus was hitting from the outside.I was hoping for a rematch that year but the Cats lost to UTEP in the first round. Went to the second round game between Iowa/UTEP and it's the only time I can remember rooting for the Hawkeyes.

Lohaus was recruited to Iowa by Lute. Saw him play high school ball at Greenway in Phoenix. I think he considered transferring to Arizona.

His son is playing for Northern Iowa right now.

That board has the textbook mid-level program chip-on-shoulder obligatory threads. The local newspaper covers the other team in town more and likes them more. Hyper-awareness of other team's "luck". Passive/aggressive anger directed at the coach that left their "major, not mid-major" program years ago, even though said coach built them into the program they currently claim to be and hired the coach they all love. More media complaining, consistently held opinion that the media "hasn't figured out" how good Xavier now is (numerous examples, but the best is a respect complaint noting a re-seeding of the Sweet 16 by one outlet has Xavier as #16...who do they think they are better than?). And so on...

Seems to me Xavier gets a fair amount of national attention, are in the conversation when appropriate, and have attained their current position through some fortune (Georgia State instead of Baylor), which hasn't yet changed the minds of those who saw their regular season as uneven and mediocre, which is why they are currently looked at as near the bottom of the remaining teams. This is addressed by some of the regulars by overstating the value of league they play in (one comment - "We made a run at the conference tournament championship in the second most competitive league") . Most of the discussion is about the value of the program, the disrespect they get in the national media, and how to get to the next level...not a lot of talk on the actual basketball.

I don't mean this as a put down...I just see a lot of the same discussions on the boards of other "chip on shoulder" programs that think everyone is out to screw them. Hell...we have a certain amount of it within our own fanbase. it is a common discussion point on message boards...the world vs the home team program. The X fans are getting a taste, have had a pretty consistent taste with first week success (though they are still so butthurt about Miller leaving for such a lateral move as Arizona they can't allow themselves to properly give credit where it is due), and they want more.

Q&A with Coach Mack. A lot of insights into Sean Miller.

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/xaviers ... /70393490/

Interesting, that he doesn't go to the Final Four.
CM: Sean, he tends not to go to the Final Four, and I always take my family and walk around Bracketville and let them go on the slides and shoot baskets and stuff, but Sean becomes a hermit crab when the season's over. So I don't think we've seen each other outside of the season. I know my kids haven't.

You two have very different personalities ...

CM: Yeah, I'm pretty cool, and he's not.
Ha! He has a good sense of humor.
Have you talked to him since you both reached the Sweet 16?

CM: We texted last night. And it was just a congratulatory text. As he said in his text: 'Looking forward to seeing the real C-Mack and your kids this weekend.' So he's talking about Christi. He couldn't care less about seeing me.
Right where I want to be.

but someone should tell mack that CSM may be doing less hermit crabbing after the tournament and more getting ready for NLI signing and typing up loose ends before the quiet period begins. dude doesn't stop working just because the season's over.
