He was three feet out of bounds and the refs didn't bother to whistle. What a performance hahacatgrad97 wrote:Props to Gunnell, sure. But how about Bam Smith tonight?
And holy sh*t, Casteel with a backbreaker that won't even count.
a 40+ yard td called back because the wr touched his knee down while catching it (correct call)scumdevils86 wrote:I can't watch with shitty internet now, what happened?
Sold! To the burned-out Arizona alum with the football self-destruction script!PieceOfMeat wrote:make it 3catgrad97 wrote:

Ha! I was there too!
Yes. Gary Bender and Pat Haden were on the call on regional CBS. First televised Cat game since Fat Tony's probation.ALASKACAT wrote:catgrad97 wrote:Well, there's my John Lee flashback. Where's the mining horn? Blow that horn!
Good memory on the name! Great memories during the Larry Smith years!
Is that the game in the mid 1980's where their kicker who hadn't missed all year missed a game tying 37 yard field goal on the last play of the game? Arizona won that one 27-24, I believe.
I was at the game...did not see the broadcast...didn't own VCR at the time. Great memories. Larry Smith's teams always had a toughness about them.catgrad97 wrote:Yes. Tunnicliffe hit Brad Anderson for the go-ahead TD in the back of the end zone. Jay Dobyns had hauled one in earlier too.
But Terry Donahue, that overachieving, slippery sucker, was never out of a game.
was it kold or was it one of the higher channels, like 18 i think? been forever and my brain doesnt always workMerkin wrote:Larry Smith was leading the Cats to the Rose Bowl. Did not forgive him for years when he took the redeye to LAX without saying goodbye to the players and denying previously to Tucson media he was leaving.
If memory serves, KOLD would rebroadcast the games late night. I would go to the game, hit the clubs then rewatch the game when I got home.
I imagine so, my memory does not serve that well anymore.PieceOfMeat wrote:was it kold or was it one of the higher channels, like 18 i think? been forever and my brain doesnt always workMerkin wrote:Larry Smith was leading the Cats to the Rose Bowl. They used to do that to NFL games when I first got Australia years ago. It was excruciating! There was no time to any lounge chair quarterbacking, argue about the play calls, or get a beer, or take a pee. Just play after play after play after play after play. They'd maybe have a 5 minute break between halfs where the host - an ex-pat American that otherwise served as a talk show side kick (like Ed McMann) would explain something or other about the game. There were no commercials because it was on the ABC which is not allowed.Merkin wrote: They had the technology even back then to reduce the shown length of the games. I remember in the 1970s some cable channel would show every Grambling football game reduced to an hour with commercials.

That make more sense to me.UAEebs86 wrote:I think it was Channel 11.

I ran on the field after the Lee miss and helped some frat boys carry the goal post out of the stadium. Alcohol may have been a factor. 10:30 am kickoff with screwdrivers
I could have been 11 I guess. My brain can't remember for sure. I just remember it was one of the channels that was a struggle for me to tune in on my black and white t.v.'s shitty antenna. Had to actually click the dial around to tv channels, and there were different channel selectors for uhf and vhf! Oh and get off my lawnUAEebs86 wrote:PieceOfMeat wrote:was it kold or was it one of the higher channels, like 18 i think? been forever and my brain doesnt always workMerkin wrote:Larry Smith was leading the Cats to the Rose Bowl.
