Re: Coaching Searches 2015
That is 100% absolutely completely not true. It is actually the complete opposite. Casteel has no desire whatsoever to be a Head Coach at this level.Salty wrote:I remember reading that one of the reasons Casteel was willing to leave WVU in the first place was because RR promised to groom him into a head coach.UAEebs86 wrote:Sure am glad we'll never find out how wrong you are Salty.Salty wrote:Mullen was a coordinator. Luckily, I don't think RR is going to leave.
But to play devils advocate... Who would Byrne hire?
Remember... The current roster and recruiting class have 3-3-5 players... A move back to 4-3 would mean 3 or 4 horrible years of defense and a rebuild.
I heard a media guy say on the radio he doesn't think Casteel
even wants to be a head coach.
He's not HC material IMO. Too easy going. Doesn't like to travel for recruiting. Perfect where he is.
And Byrne did a thorough search before he decided on Mullen and RR. He didn't just promote from within. Guess he should have hired Tim Kish. He beat ASU, didn't he?

Gundy wants out. I'm pretty surprised Michigan and UF seem to have no interest. He's been a good coach, he just lost a starting QB this year and Daxx Garman is hot garbage.azcat49 wrote:ASUHATER! wrote:les miles to Michigan. RR to lsu

Greg Schiano? Probably has to be someone out of coaching.

My posting strategy-
Make a point.
If Salty disagrees- feel confident in your opinion
If Salty agrees- rethink your opinion (or just assume that Salty misread what you wrote)

Improved every year.
Same system.
Remember, this is Arizona. We're not gonna go out and hire Urban Meyer. Our best bet would be to take a chance on a coordinator like Byrne did at Miss State.

Foley's already getting negative feedback from the search
http://www.si.com/college-football/2014 ... m-mcelwain
http://www.si.com/college-football/2014 ... m-mcelwain
Ten years to the day of White’s ill-fated trip to Salt Lake City [to hire Urban Meyer], Foley’s voyage to Fort Collins unfolded like a bungled modern coaching search, with fans and journalists live tweeting along the way. Foley waited a year too long to fire Muschamp and then proceeded to run a search without the same discretion and aggressiveness that allowed him to outfox Notre Dame a decade ago. We’ll reserve judgment on McElwain for what he does on the field. But the lost 2014 season at Florida and squandered opportunities for Foley to hire a more established and bigger name coach shows just how far he and the Gators have fallen.
How has Foley messed up things in the last decade? Let us count the ways. Start with the candidates Foley likely could have lured to Gainesville. There are four coaches with better track records and decisively more potential that Foley missed or ignored. The timing of Foley’s firing of Muschamp cost him a shot at Charlie Strong and James Franklin last year. For reasons that are still unclear, Foley ruled out Rich Rodriguez and Dan Mullen before this search even began. The result is the rest of the SEC snickering at Foley, who has two football flops -- Ron Zook and Muschamp -- and a Hall of Famer (Meyer) on his track record. McElwain deserves a shot, but there aren’t a lot of signs that he’s the next Meyer.
When this coaching search came around, Florida’s strangest maneuver came when it leaked to ESPN the day Muschamp got fired that it wouldn’t be pursuing Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen or Arizona’s Rich Rodriguez. This would have been fine if the Gators hired Bob Stoops or Chip Kelly, but in retrospect it appeared like Foley was setting a low bar. There’s been no good reason given for both those coaches not being considered, and few competent athletic directors would choose McElwain over Mullen or Rodriguez. (If the narrative of a blue blood school passing on Rodriguez for an obscure Mountain West coach sounds familiar, ask Michigan how that worked out.)
The decision to rule out Rodriguez may come back to haunt Foley the most. While Rodriguez had NCAA issues at Michigan and clashed with the administration, he’s been a model coach at Arizona and his offensive ingenuity would be embraced along with his down-home personality. When Foley ruled out Rodriguez and Mullen for the job, the SEC let out a collective sigh of relief. If Foley hires McElwain, there will be high fives of celebration, as the move looms as intimidating as a Powder Puff prevent defense. (Can't you imagine Steve Spurrier already getting his one-liners ready for media day?)

Re: Coaching Searches 2015
Muschamp back to Auburn makes tons of sense. Was hearing on College Sports Radio that it was pretty much there or South Carolina.
Foley is either going to look really smart if he gets his guy or really dumb if he passes after all the press it involved. I will say the pics of Foley at the residence looking out the window that were on twitter were super creepy and a bit too much. I also love that CSU is not backing down on the buyout. The buyouts are there for a reason. You want their guy then you are going to have to pay it.
If the Bielma to Nebraska turns out to be true that would be 3 major big time jobs in 4 years. However, I think his style fits much better at Nebraska than Arkansas.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... ams-buyoutColorado State's Jim McElwain wants to be Florida's coach. And the Gators desperately want McElwain as their coach.
There's one huge problem: CSU is not budging on McElwain's $7.5 million buyout, and Florida refuses to pay the entire amount, sources said Wednesday night.
"At this point, any potential deal is on hold until there's some sort of resolution with the buyout issue," a source said.
If Colorado State president Tony Frank doesn't agree to a lower buyout, Florida officials are "pessimistic" the deal will get done, sources said.
Oh.
