Didn’t some post about Kaluma either going pro or coming to U of A about 2 weeks ago? Seems like he’d go to combine and get a review.
Re: Let's talk '23
if az had a million to give to a player they should give it to tubelis to comeback not a dude who isn't good
Re: Let's talk '23
He is good but a million is a lot of money and many players would jump at that. No reflection on our potential transfer because I think he would fit in.

Did anyone really believe he would get one mil?
Re: Let's talk '23
I feel like this board is being so mature about the recruiting situation with Ryan Nembhardt. I keep checking twitter every few hours thinking some news will break. I don't understand why this could possibly be taking so long. And nobody in here is talking about it which is even more strange. Like nobody has a clue?

Nembhard was still on campus with his brother as of yesterday.Bordercat wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 12:02 pm I feel like this board is being so mature about the recruiting situation with Ryan Nembhardt. Which is crazy that is not more widely known. Maybe they are trying to keep it low-key? I feel like Covid proved, and NIL cemented, that recruiting visits actually mean very little in this day & age.

Another one off the board

Every player should be on their own timeline. Let them do what they believe is best for them.

Not what happened at all, but keep pushing your agenda.

Kerr said the fans were part of his decision so my agenda is listening to what he said?

Kerr is in charge of Kerr, you fucking shrew. Kerr, in consultation with his coach made every decision in this matter. JFC! This isn't about your stature in any venue emotional or intellectual. Honestly, your victimhood informs your every posture and perspective. If you ever truly reached the intellectual age of consent and adult agency you wouldn't have a fucking thing to say about anything.

Re: Let's talk '23
With all the rumblings on Twitter or RN2 flogging to Gonzaga…I’m actually concerned about Lloyd’s recruiting. This was supposed to be a done deal weeks ago. All 6 crystal ball predictions are for us…and we might fumble this recruitment?
I haven’t been worried about this until now…I’m hoping that there is a major backup plan.
If these guys were such heavy leans to Arizona…what kept them from committing? NIL? Tommy being too honest about playing time and role?

Here's hoping Tommy has a good backup plan going on behind the scenes because this team looks very blah for 23-24.

My hope is that the plan is to get DJ Thomas and he would reclassify. Then have Bryant and Phillips be our big pieces for 24-25

Re: Let's talk '23
Lloyd has to flat out offer more kids and not have such a large margin for error.
And get more than 1 assistant to recruit
Also no doubt the domestic kids don't feel as comfortable here, it's too international

So as of now we're, what, the third or fourth best team in the conference next year? Love it.
Re: Let's talk '23
I can’t believe I got taken for a ride on this recruitment. All of the crystal ball prognosticators and so called insiders are clueless. I have no idea who to believe anymore.

My understanding was that it was a mutual decision between Lloyd and Kriisa. And yes, fans had nothing to do with it. He was apparently laughing when he said it on his podcast.

it's official Lloyd blew it.
Now what smh.

Re: Let's talk '23
So Few gut punches his bud Tommy. Have to wonder how that feels. First time they went head to head and Lloyd gets his butt kicked.
Do they have a back up plan? I can’t even think of a capable 2 on the roster? Larsson or Lewis? Then you would have to play Borovicanen at the 3. That scenario is just flat out scary

Maybe it was NIL money solely and our collective wasn’t enough?

Re: Let's talk '23
I was looking through sports news this morning hoping to find something good to look forward to for next year. All in all, can't say that I'm surprised.
This is a huge miss for Lloyd and shows why longtime assistants have a hard time making the jump to head coach. The chatter on RN had been so strong for UofA, it seemed like a foregone conclusion. Truthfully, I was worried about Lloyd at the very begninning. He seemed so nonplussed about the challenges that came with being a high major coach. For sure, he's got legit chops, but in other areas, he's just not cutting it. At this point, he's been very successful at one thing: getting Arizona fans used to accepting a much lower quality recruit. Can you imagine if Damon or JT had similar results to Lloyd in their first two years at UofA? 5 stars would be hitch hiking their way to Tucson and breaking into McKale.
Just think back when Akinjo (the other Big East FOY we recruited) hit the portal, before Gonzaga and other schools could get their claws into him he had already committed to Arizona. And all of those other schools didn't have a dark cloud hanging over them. The problem with Lloyd is that it's much easier to recruit from a top position, especially when you're not responsible for leading a program. When you work your way up from lesser schools over a period of time you build the skills necessary to attract recruits and learn how to sell a rebuild. That's why Cronin, CSM, Altman and others have taken off when they got high major jobs. I mean c'mon Jedd FIsch understand this. Lloyd has been riding shotgun his entire career, and let's be honest, I'm not the only one who thinks that he has problems recruiting domestic athletes from urban backgrounds. Gonzaga excelled at recruiting the athletic Theo Huxtable type of recruit, which is great for most programs but not good enough for UofA, who's used to having some of the nastiest athletes in the country.
He needs help recruiting, and he needs it quick. He needs an assistant that excels at defense and recruiting. Zona fans are not used to consistently losing out recruits like this. Especially when we check all the boxes as a program and the FBI situation is done. Paging Mr. Lloyd, it's time to step up please.

Re: Let's talk '23
This is a real kick in the nuts, but some level of rebuilding was going to be inevitable. The upside with Boswell running the point is much higher than Kerr at this point in their careers and Kerr at the 2 was never going to happen.
Re: Let's talk '23
I’m not sure what all the angst is about losing RN. Nembhard is a good, not great, point guard, who happens to be relatively undersized. He’s definitely not a program changer, and if we were thinking that, we are in much worse shape as a program than any of us wants to admit. We would have been running a guard combo with an average height of 6’1”. Neither of whom is Steph Curry from the 3-point line. Nembhard can drive a bit, but he also plays a little out of control at times. He really isn’t what this team needs next year, unless you considered the ability to take back up minutes, when Boswell needs a rest. We need a 6’4” - 6’6” guard that can post up and open up shooting opportunities for Boswell on the perimeter.
I get the sting of losing a “guaranteed” recruit to Gonzaga, but he is not Andrew, and honestly never will be. There will be plenty of opportunities to fill the needs for this team, as we get in to the late Spring, early Summer months. Take a step away from the ledge everyone. We’ll be just fine.

Re: Let's talk '23
RN was the #2 transfer out there and we missed? Who is out there at 6’5 that would fit what we are looking for? There are typically no pro’s in the portal but RN might have been the closest. I am going to stay on that ledge for awhile longer
