Without Jordin Mayes career game against Texas we never would have played Duke that year.

Before Williams ever had a chance to stomp on Duke’s soul, they had to get past four-seed Texas in the Round of 32. Yes, Williams led the Wildcats with 17 points, and Solomon Hill contributed 16, but that was expected. What was not anticipated was Jordin Mayes’ contributions off the bench.
The freshman who had scored in double figures just once all season — on Dec. 1 against Rice — scored 16 points against the Longhorns, making all four of this three-point attempts and 6-of-7 shots, overall. He added two assists and two steals to his stat line, and gave Arizona a valuable third scorer in a game the Wildcats won by just one point, 70-69.

Mayes and Kyryl were both big against Texas. That would not be consistent throughout their Arizona careers.

Texas fans saying "we would have had that game if a little used player hadn't had a career night against us". Where have I heard that before?

Have to admit, I have zero recollection of KN making any impact on that game. I'd be shocked if he did. It was the Solo, Williams, Mayes show from what I remember and Derrick didn't even play that well. We had no business winning, that's for sure..

We were having trouble defending Texas bigs with Williams and Perry, then DWill had foul trouble. Kyryl gave us really solid bench D and ate up minutes off the bench.

Its alternatively fun and depressing to look back on that 2011 tourney run. Fun because the run was so exciting and thrilling
Depressing because it reminds that in the 6 following seasons with higher recruiting classes (top 5 all of them) we haven't beat anything higher than a #4 seed or beaten any team seeded higher than us.

Hard to beat a lot of teams seeded higher when you're a 1 or a 2 every year. Not many opportunities. Guess we should just be a 6 seed every season.

All I remember was that we had Texas totally under control until the second half when J'Covan Brown paraded to the FT line again and again. Texas' offense consisted of him going 1 on 5, Brown penetrating and initiating contact and being rewarded with FTs. That allowed Texas to claw back in the game. And of course Mayes had a career game from the floor. Kyryl's contribution didn't show up much in the box score but he made some timely plays. And I remember Momo had a brutal game and then busted out the next round against Duke.

Xavier, Wisconsin, and if you really believe he is making fun, there's one of the other FBI schools in Louisville.
You almost couldn't put more teams in that 8 team pairing that had more recent year negative resonance with us without including a PAC 12 school.

No way Wisconsin is a 9 seed. That's crazy talk. They'll be in the 4 to 6 range.

Based on what?
They just lost two of their top three players from a year ago, probably plus their best defensive player.

and they don't have Bo anymore.
They are declining exactly like you expect a team built under a top level coach to do when the coach leaves and the pipeline fades, when the hire to replace was forced and uninspired.

While I truly love the idea of hating on Wisconsin, and am certainly not sold on them being a top 20 team, what you said couldn't be further from the truth IMO. If you paid any attention two year's ago that team was a dumpster fire until Gard's system was put into place and they had some time in it. Last year they were a stone's throw from the Elite 8 and their team wasn't really all that good. That dude can flat out coach. And he has recruited well (for Wisconsin), hasn't he?

A&M winning with 1 min left before half despite missing one of the best players in CBB and their starting PG. Impressive, hopefully they pull this one out.

Archie's IU debut tempered by a home blow out to Indiana State. Bummed for him. I guess ISU shot lights out from three.
Kentucky needed to rally to put away Utah Valley at home. They won by 10.
Michael Porter Jr. played two minutes before sitting with a hip injury. Mizzou 74 Iowa State 59.

They're obviously loose, confident, and out to prove something. I'm not convinced Hurley's all that as a coach, but he's put a nice roster together. On paper, we should beat them by 20. But this whole "on paper" thing hasn't worked out so well in the Miller era.

Alabama was down double digits and had their whole bench kicked out the game, one more player foul out, on more get injured. They had to play 3 on 5 and they brought the game back to a 3 point deficit. Lost by 5 but still pretty cool. Sexton dropped 40.

I am thinking right now U of A will be the #2 in the west and something like the 6th or 7th overall seed. When all is said and done. Possibly the #3 in the West if the PAC is really down, although the win by UW vs Kansas is huge.
What will be interesting is if GCU gets into the tournament if the committee will line up GCU vs U of A or asu

Pac 12 is like the 6th or 7th best conference right now, which could hurt us unfortunately.
I could see us being a 3-4 seed because of that.
Probably have to win out to touch a #2 seed

I’m pretty sure 26-5 (16-2) followed by at least a finals run in the PAC tourney will earn us at least a #2 seed out West.
I’d say to compete for a 1 seed we probably have to be somewhere around 30-4 going into the NCAA tourney.

Also depends on what everyone else does in front of us. Lot of ball to play still.
Be shocked if this team with this talent was not a 2 or 3 seed by the end of the year.

We're very much still in the running for #1 in the West. If we win out in our OOC schedule and put up 17-1 or 16-2 in the Pac, we'll be right there.

I'm not convinced yet. I don't see a 4 or 5 loss team in the top 10 this year let alone the top 5. But you never know, the season is still young.

I'd say a 1 seed is shot barring us finishing the season 28-0 heading to the tournament. Any more than 2-3 more losses and we may not even be a top 3 seed.

In 2017 the average 2 or 3 seed not from the PAC-12 had 7.2 losses.
A five loss PAC-12 team will get a top 3 seed. LOCK IT
