At least there is a quality win in the Pac 12 now.

Colorado loses to Hawaii in OT.

We are such a mid major conference.

That's not even hyperbole. Most mid-majors get 1 team in, 2 if they're lucky.

Keep in mind, though, that AZ, USC, and Oregon have highly ranked incoming classes next season. I don't think 2018-19 is the new normal, in other words.

Exactly didn't Kansas need OT to beat a pretty bad Stanford team at home

Thought Colorado was going to be a decent win this year, guess they are going to be a "bad loss". Gonna have to pull it together for the road trip. And we really need to win our first two games against the mountain schools at home. That would be a big hole to climb out of if we drop those two. Can't afford any more lapses in effort.

Also Washington state loses to San Diego.
Oye!

Truly putrid performance. Oregon State is flying the flag for the conference. Against Central Connecticut. Everybody else is losing or lost.

The winner of the Pac-12 tournament will be the only conference team playing in the Big Dance.

This is the worst the Pac has been since I started following AZ in the late 90s.

And yes, only the Pac tourney winner is getting into the NCAA tourney. ASU would have to go like 16-2 in league to get an at large bid, which you know isn’t happening. I think the Pac reg season champ will go something like 12-6. That won’t be good enough for any Pac team to reach the tourney, not with the OOC performance we’ve had.

Oregon State held on to win. Unless they lose a bunch more games, Washington and ASU may be the only halfway respectable teams we play. Any more losses we have will be counted as potentially bad losses by the committee.

Yeah, the conference sucks. Kind of funny that the comparisons to other abysmal seasons by a major conference were recorded by the PAC12/10 also. Seems like the PAC is consistently one of the worst major conferences. Anyway, can't blame everything on Larry Scott. Our revenue is significantly higher than mid major conferences and yet we perform like one. Next year should be a lot better for us, but the conference will probably be the same.

I bet if it weren't for obnoxious Bill Walton everyone probably wouldn't be making fun of the PAC-12 like they are this year. The Title states that this could be the worse conference season in the shot clock era, yet, has examples based on stats that there have been worse years produced by the PAC-10. Let's be honest, the PAC-10/12 has had some pretty bad seasons in the past, this year included. I also don't 100% blame ESPN, this was probably going to be a down year from Arizona anyway. The recruits that decided to go elsewhere aren't exactly lighting it up this season.

I'll add this from Jon Wilner. It's nice that he recognizes Miller and the Arizona program as the torchbearers of the Pac 12.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/01/10/ ... -solution/" target="_blank

IMO, the Pac 12's problem is some of the coaching hires. I mean, Ernie Kent at Wazzu has been a disaster. The guy is stealing money from Pullman. Cal has been a train wreck for how many years now? UCLA has been in a slow decline since the Alford hire, propped up by the inevitable talented recruits who can win a few games but do nothing impressive on a national scale. Stanford hasn't been relevant in ten years.

Right now, the coaches who have their shit together are Miller, Altman and maybe Hopkins (the jury is still out. He has a veteran team so we'll see). Krystowiak is a solid coach but can't recruit to put together a consistent tourney team.

When you look at OOC scheduling, the Pac 12 really struggles to get decent home games. All the tough OOC games are either on a neutral court or on the road. ASU was fortunate to get KU. So conference teams schedule tough roadies, lose those games and then get criticized because the conference doesn't perform well in OOC. Duke DID NOT PLAY A TRUE ROAD GAME UNTIL THIS WEEK!!!

This is where our fan base would be blaming Sean Miller and saying he’s a terrible coach. Is it Altman’s fault? Can you be a terrible coach with a Final Four on your resume?

Yeah, not a bad result either way. But that was just awful by Oregon. Not just the end of the regulation, but also end of the overtime. Too bad Altman can’t coach offense against a zone.
