One of my favorite pics from this weekend. The Cajun Navy on the way to Houston.

Oh and Hater ..... you don't have to be a dick.
Only am a dick when people are a dick first.
He wasn't a dick. He said you were wrong and obviously know nothing about Houston. He was correct on both accounts. If you could see local coverage, it may restore your faith in humanity. People here are amazing, and the rescue efforts are amazing. There are 100s of stories just like this being broadcast right now:
I have mostly watched local coverage and it has restored my belief in humanity. Clearly a lot of people trying to help whoever they can. Check it out here:

I have to echo, that we are seeing the best of humanity in this situation.
Watching the local response and the people coming with their boats and the impromptu rescue efforts being coordinated is amazing to see.
May this help our nation to heal and look out for each other on even some small scale level. May we take this example and do for our communities in all times, not just disasters. This is my simple prayer for our nation.

Yep. It's the sort of thing that reminds you of the potential America has to do good.

Haha, Tom Llamas deleted the tweet. I guess once 3,000 people called him a narc punk bitch for calling the cops away from doing rescues in order to stop people from eating food that's a complete insurance write off and would spoil in a couple of days anyway clued him in that he's a total piece of shit.
Edit: Wait! He screengrabbed his own tweet that he deleted. The responses are even more epic...

The ratio of responses to likes and retweets is astounding.
Deadspin just dragged his ass:
Imagine not only:
1. Having the sick impulse to call the cops, from the site of one of the worst flood disasters in American history, to report victims of that flood for looting a supermarket; but also:
2. Actually following through on that impulse by calling the fucking cops on desperate flood victims for looting a supermarket in the middle of one of the worst flood disasters in American history; but also, on top of that:
3. Having the impulse to go on fucking Twitter and report to your 21,000 followers that you called the cops on desperate flood victims for looting a supermarket; and then, holy fucking God:
4. Actually doing that.
Don’t be Tom Llamas, my friends. Just... just don’t be Tom Llamas. Don’t ever be Tom Llamas.

15 percent
Share of homes in Harris County (which includes Houston) that have flood insurance, according to National Flood Insurance Program figures. This means that many homeowners could be on the hook for repairing and rebuilding homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey.

If we had had social media and smartphones in 2005, Katrina wouldn't have had nearly the death toll.

Hell yes. I feel sort of guilty bc I've only donated $ from Tucson. The response to Harvey is absolutely inspiring.
Over in the politics forum, I've questioned whether partisan divides are too split to heal. It's stuff like this that makes me believe that America can still be one and do amazing things united.

We had 32" in my neighborhood. Being totally bayou and hurricane naive when we moved here 2 1/2 years ago, I bought a house no where close to a bayou and two blocks outside the 500 year floodplain. Mercifully stayed dry. We were holed up in our 2 story house with 2 weeks worth of food and supplies with my son, his wife, two grandkids, one of my son's coworkers and his wife and their 9 month old, and a Cat. At one point, it rained 4-5" in one hour. Will post pics when I have time. Surreal experience.

City of Beaumont has lost its water supply for the foreseeable future. They'll have to wait until the water receeds from the pump stations to determine and make repairs. So no (clean)water in a urban area of about 200000 people for a while.

I just got home from my parents' house. We were clearing their house at 7 am when 12 people showed we've never met showed up and insisted they help. They spent 10 hours ripping up carpet, cutting drywall, and helping us move furniture to the curb. My mom cried, my dad cried, and I cried. These people spent 10 hours helping us out of the kindness of their heart. It would have taken us a week to do this. People are amazing.

Texans and Southerners are a different breed. We all have our faults, but don't say we don't care for others or love America.(for the most part there are still a terrific amount of assholes down here)

That's gotta suck. Right now the path of Irma is projected to turn northern around Key West and split the Florida peninsula in half. Orlanda will probably flood but the wind won't be so bad. Let's hope the hurricane moves speedily along.
