I never thought he would make it in the NBA. First I never thought anyone would give him a chance. Secondly he would and could not shoot. He is one of LeBron's favorites. Hard work, perseverance and just being given a chance and he would not let himself fail. Proud of the career he made for his family and himself.

Couldn’t believe he had two blocks the other night. Whoever is getting their shit knocked back by TJ McConnell has to feel real small in the postgame locker room.

As mentioned above, we said those UA teams were 4 future NBAers and a mid-major transfer slow white point guard with alligator arms.

TJ's teammates were:
Nick Johnson
Aaron Gordon
Kaleb T
RHJ
Gabe York
Brandon Ashley
Stanley Johnson
Dusan Ristic

and now

These former Arizona Wildcats made 2024-25 NBA rosters
Josh Green, Charlotte Hornets. ...
Dalen Terry, Chicago Bulls. ...
Aaron Gordon, Denver Nuggets. ...
Zeke Nnaji, Denver Nuggets. ...
Bennedict Mathurin, Indiana Pacers. ...
T.J. McConnell, Indiana Pacers. ...
Pelle Larsson, Miami Heat. ...
Deandre Ayton, Portland Trailblazers.

Fun fact T.J. McConnell has never fouled out of a game throughout his career in the NBA regular season or playoffs. Only five players in league history played more career games and never fouled out.
Here's a list of the top 10 most career games without fouling out.
Wilt Chamberlain - 1205
Steve Kerr - 1038
Antonio Daniels - 952
Kyrie Irving - 868*
Jason Williams - 855
T.J. McConnell - 717*
Damon Jones - 716
Ramon Sessions - 713
Will Barton - 708
Don Buse - 683
* - Active streak

Well to be honest you don't foul out when you play less than half the game. Half a game would be generous in his early career.

Noticed the same thing about Steve Kerr on that list. He only played one season where he played half the game, and that was just 24.8 MPG.

Now Wilt, that's an amazing stat. Did he get the Michael Jordan treatment?

Has there ever been an NBA player with a better/longer career as a full time backup/ role player than TJ?

I don’t know if he’s ever even started an NBA game… and yet here he is still actively playing… truly amazing

He's really a throwback to the almost 1950s-era point guards that hung on into the beginning of the 1970s. Bob Cousy was a big deal starting in the early 50s, but there were lots of journeyman types like Lenny Wilkins, Guy Rodgers, Bob Weiss, Johnny Egan, etc. And I guess John Stockton and Steve Nash later on, who were both obviously pretty big deals. Maybe there's a lesson that there's still room for at least some minutes for glue guys, even if they slow you down and give something up on defense.

The ironic thing about that stat is Wilt was in foul trouble in game 7 of the ‘69 Championship vs. the Celtics which LA should have won.
