Evan Battey just saw his future.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: South Region Discussion
Another interesting graph from him today
Re: South Region Discussion
now this graph is worth something - Arizona has had a propensity to go on killer runs for long stretches. thank you for posting that opponents ability or lack there of to contain this factor is important to the outcome in the NCAA's. just happened to UCLA in what seemed like a matter of seconds.

Yeah I believe I posted that graph before
Interesting to look at it now as it relates to our bracket mates
Tcu allows more runs than they themselves go on for example and are the 4 most suspect teams in the country
Houston is scary like I've said, even if they're 1-4 in quad 1 games

I hate to say it, but he's been to the final four too...

Re: South Region Discussion
Interesting thoughts:
1) our 2nd most common lineup is also not very effective (although it's barely more common than any other)
2) Lots of green for Zu and then the 2 bad ones don't include him

One of the positives is that Nova, Tenn, Illinois and Houston are all legit, but we can't possibly catch more than two of them.RondaeShimmy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 8:16 pm Yeah I believe I posted that graph before

That's not exactly bad in context. Most tournaments, you're staring at two top 15-20 teams between you and a Final Four. That's where we are. TCU and Seton Hall are good teams, but they aren't pushing top 20 for a reason.

Nova blew out Tennessee early in the season, could be interesting to see the rematch. Tennessee isn't the same team away from home.
Nova is too small for us

Re: South Region Discussion
Nova has a very tough second round game for them especially if Loyola advances, they are essentially the same team with different talent. Tennessee has a difficult of a second game as well with either team that advances.

Jay Wrights teams usually get upset when they don't have obvious NBA talent
Very real possibility we don't face a top seeded team, maybe only the 4/5 winner. I don't really like how confident I am with our draw at this point.

Re: South Region Discussion
this was exactly my reaction and i immediately posted when the brackets were released the way it broke is almost too good for AZ but it seems things have been too good all year and maybe just perhaps its meant to be too good but my largest worry is the team relaxes early in the round of 32, even if its ever so slightly, cause that can be the difference in going home early and advancing.RondaeShimmy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 9:43 am I don't really like how confident I am with our draw at this point.
if AZ gets to San Antonio there is no way i see them losing, even if Houston is there (which i dont think they will be)and has a home crowd.

I view it vs years like 2016 where we got a Wichita State team that was an 11 seed vs being #13 nationally on KenPom.

Re: South Region Discussion
through 2015-17, everyone of our exits went to under seeded teams. Xavier had one or two players that were sidelined for a chunk the season that were impact players, it affected their record and seeding. By the time we played them, they were full strength. Buffalo was much better than advertised, which was why they were top 25 the next year and Nate Oates got scooped up quickly by Alabama.
That shouldn't happen in our bracket this year.

Re: South Region Discussion
I may be in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of complaining about good teams being placed in our region, however "under-seeded" they may be. If we're as good as most think, we should have a sporting chance vs. just about anyone. I say bring em on.

Re: South Region Discussion
Agreed. We have some good teams, but Houston is the only one I'd really make a case for as potentially underseeded, and we wouldn't see them until the Sweet 16. Even then, Illinois may well chop them out.RawleArenas wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 11:21 am through 2015-17, everyone of our exits went to under seeded teams. That's why this year is fine. Good teams but no one you think the seeding whiffed on. Houston's metrics...I mean, maybe they should have been in the 2-3 seed conversation, but that isn't crazy for a Sweet 16 matchup. We don't have a gauntlet where the first two rounds are teams that should have been much higher.
That Xavier game in 17 still gets me hacked off. Rawle had the broken finger, we shot horribly basically all game and still 100% should have won if we didn't give it away in the last 3 minutes. That game was ours and we had a great shot vs Gonzaga.

Re: South Region Discussion
Houston IS underseeded as they're top 4 overall in pretty much advanced metric. However they're 1-4 in quad 1 games with the lone win being this past Sunday vs Memphis in the aac championship game.
Also Houston lost Marcus Sasser and Tramon Mark from last year's final four team in December. Sasser was their leading scorer this year before getting injured. They were a more dangerous team then.
For Illinois knocking Houston out, Curbelo imo hasn't made them a better team (we played them without him).
Illinois record with/out curbelo
Curbelo injured: 13-2
Curbelo, 1-20min: 8-2
Curbelo, 21min-plus: 1-5

Wright State v Bryant...we could start Ballo at point and let Krissa play in his crocs at the 5 and we'd still win by 20 against either of these teams.

Holden from Wright State with 32 points and 10 boards thus far. This kid is a legit 6'6" guard. All I can say is never underestimate your opponent. People on here making jokes about our first round opponent and talking about missing crocs. We better be ready for these guys. I think we could have our hands full if we don't bring our A game.
