I know TJ has really been bad this year, but does he get a chance to pitch the next game?

This played out well as I thought it might. The further we go in this tournament the better I like our odds. We are the best hitting team in the conference and every team is using pitchers at a big rate (as are we).

If Cal beats Stanford they are in and I think UCLA beats Washington to set up the all underdog semi’s

Well thanks to a stupid throwing error by Stanford we now have to play them tomorrow night. Sigh.

I think the Cats are happy to play Stanford because if they beat them, their rpi will go up and should get them into the tournament.

Yeah. We might have had some advantage playing in the heat, but considering our pitching, that might not have been so advantageous. The RPI thing would no doubt help, but I still assume we have to win out. Meanwhile, Stanford's already going to host, and one additional loss is probably close to irrelevant to them, so you can make the case they might not be as motivated as we are. Depending on how the pitching goes, it may not matter, but we'll find out soon enough.

Now Oregon's in the same position we're in: all-out for a guaranteed bid. They swept us in Tucson when we were in the worst of our 5-7 slump. But, it's all hands on deck now in one game for both teams. Very possibly double-digit pitchers in short bursts between the two. We drew 2,500 last night. Wish we could say it would be twice that tonight. Meanwhile, despite the fact that this is a slow time in sports, Scottsdale is hosting the Pac-12 Tournament Championship Game on ESPN2 tonight, an Arizona school is in it and it's now considered a national bid-stealing story...The Arizona Republic is attempting to play the canceling game with a news blackout and no coverage. Nothing on the Oregon State game, nothing on the Stanford game, nothing on the Oregon/Washington game. Arizona hurt ASU's feelings, so they took their ball and went home. Climb under the covers, cover their ears, and go "la-la-la-la-la...I can't hear you." So, obviously I hope we win...and I also hope the bid we steal turns out to be ASU's. THEN, the Republic can print their story about the horrific injustice of it all. Or maybe a story wondering why Arizona fans don't like ASU or the Phoenix media. No matter what happens, WE'VE been the story. And even if we lose one game, don't get a bid, and ASU backs in to one, they'll get sent to Siberia where they'll be irrelevant and get bounced.

After racking my brains and trying to remember the last time in my 50 years of being an Arizona fan that the NCAA did us any favors whatsoever, I'm not optimistic about our chances. But, maybe a couple of upset dominoes will fall in the right direction for us. In any case, the college baseball selection show is on Monday (Memorial Day) at 9 am on ESPN2.

We're not getting in. Too many bids have been stolen over the last two days.
