Arizona isn't going to give that much NIL to a non-proven player. He'll get paid for sure, but he's not going to get C Love money in year 1.84Cat wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 1:32 pm I think all the nil money that C Love is getting this year will go to Koa next year
Then that may not bode so well for landing him?ChooChooCat wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 3:11 pmArizona isn't going to give that much NIL to a non-proven player. Nah, not necessarily. NIL is important for this recruitment, but you don't have to be the highest bidder to land a guy.Beachcat97 wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 8:58 pmThen that may not bode so well for landing him?ChooChooCat wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 3:11 pmArizona isn't going to give that much NIL to a non-proven player. I don't get ASU either. They recruit very well, even as their program continues to fail. Reminds me of Romar at UW.Dave wrote: Fri Sep 06, 2024 10:15 am Pretty interesting! We go from being the leader to not even making the Top 6. ASU! Seriously!
Sheer/Luke said on YouTube it was a highest bidder + getting family members into the US scenario.Dave wrote: Fri Sep 06, 2024 10:15 am Pretty interesting! We go from being the leader to not even making the Top 6. ASU! Seriously!

Hurley has a good amount of money to spend at the moment and he's trying to get a quality liferaft outside of Tempe ASAP.Beachcat97 wrote: Fri Sep 06, 2024 11:01 amI don't get ASU either. I think this kid ends up at USC or KU.
I agree that the Portal is going to play an ever important role in filling out the roster, but thats largely going to resemble the HS recruiting scene. The better players are going to portal to the B1G/SEC schools with the +100MM in yearly TV revenue. I hope the fans don't start calling for Lloyds head......theres not a thing he can do about it. Its all about $$$$$$$$$$ and the poor ole UA doesn't have that.Merkin wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 1:25 pm I'd just look at the transfer portal for mid-major players. With all the one and dones, and unlimited transfers by players, why waste any time on developing freshmen?
Keep looking at Euros of course, just don't make them the core of the program.
UA obviously doesn't have the NIL money KU does, but Self is really killing it with transfers.

I am still holding out slim hopes for Congress to step in and place guardrails on the whole NIL system and restore some form of amateur status to the College game. College football/Bball are now little more than Semi-Pro leagues and the UA will never compete effectively in that environment.
This is an east coast guy. Not sure how many true east coasters we've gotten recently, or at least in the Lloyd era. Bradley's from NY, but he transferred in.dmjcat wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 12:50 pm I am afraid that we are starting to see the full effect of NIL on AZ basketball recruiting. We just can't afford to stay up with the Jones's.
I think that Lloyds recruiting strategy is going to involve more lower rated 4 stars that are not being pursued by the $monied$ SEC/B1G programs with a healthy dose of international players sprinkled in. We will probably have enough money to chase only 1 or 2 top players each year.
If you want to land a guy like this (Top 50ish from the east coast) you better get on him early. We got on him late, which has been the norm for Tommy Lloyd, so yeah what else could you expect?dmjcat wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 12:50 pm I am afraid that we are starting to see the full effect of NIL on AZ basketball recruiting. I have some real concerns about the impact of NIL on us but to say that we will never be able to complete effectively might be a little dramatic. Top 30 in revenue is pretty good. It could also mean our ceiling is top 25.dmjcat wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 1:36 pmI agree that the Portal is going to play an ever important role in filling out the roster, but thats largely going to resemble the HS recruiting scene. I have no idea but we are listed as one of his schools of interest on 247IndianaZonaFan wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2024 10:23 am Just another example of players throwing us in to make their finalists look better? Or is this a legit thing that happened late? I haven’t seen or heard anyone talking about this kid
My understanding is that Love’s $$$ came from a single booster. I’d have to ask around a but but I think you can safely assume that this won’t apply to a potential recruit. Lloyd could find money elsewhere but Love’s deal was a 1-off.84Cat wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2024 1:32 pm I think all the nil money that C Love is getting this year will go to Koa next year
This guy is full of shit.
His entire schtick that Arizona is "lowballing" guys. Absolute horseshit. Can we offer as much as some specific other schools? Of course not, but we're competitive and that's all you have to be. You don't have to be the top bidder to land guys. As far as Koa goes, yeah it may come down to ASU vs AZ in the end. I like our position very much if that's truly what it comes down to.
Good chance we find out how accurate that is this week.dmjcat wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 9:54 am The UA just got a Crystal Ball for Dwayne Aristode

Aristode, Peat, and either Burries or a reclassified 2026 guard. I reserve all rights to change my opinion after I hit submit lol.Beachcat97 wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:47 pmSounds good, Choo.ChooChooCat wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 5:31 amGood chance we find out how accurate that is this week.dmjcat wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 9:54 am The UA just got a Crystal Ball for Dwayne Aristode

If you were pressed, what would your best guess be at our '25 class, once all the dust settles?
I dunno, how many decommits does Tommy usually get? Just Sanon right?Merkin wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 9:55 am With NIL, and no more NLI, what's the chances he even shows up?
I was thinking of recruits like Tounde Yessoufou from Santa Maria that was a very strong UA lean until Baylor came in with a much larger NIL offer.Fishclamps wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:22 amI dunno, how many decommits does Tommy usually get? "Commit" hasn't meant "commit" in decades. Now, even if he signs scholarship papers he is no longer bound to the school.
Also being a European player, he could go the pro route.
At the momeht foreign players can't receive NIL (which is probably a prime reason why we were able to sign him)Merkin wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 9:55 am With NIL, and no more NLI, what's the chances he even shows up?
Phillips as well, but that was a mutual decision.Fishclamps wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 10:22 amI dunno, how many decommits does Tommy usually get? Just Sanon right?Merkin wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 9:55 am With NIL, and no more NLI, what's the chances he even shows up?

Yeah, right in the article that dmj posted says this about Zach Edey "Edey made $800,000 of passive income by partnering with the Purdue Team Store to release special edition hockey jerseys with the 7-foot-4 center’s name and number stitched on the back." There are ways to work around this. Will we see Aristode in any commercials? No. Will he be making good money while at Arizona? Absolutely.Fishclamps wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 8:59 pm They absolutely can get NIL, cmon now. Every financial system in this country has loopholes built into it to shift money around if you really want to.
It was very openly reported Ballo was getting something like $1.2 mil to go to Indiana and he's not a US citizen.
