My Nexus 7 tablet was really starting to have problems. It was hanging up all the time and the battery life was becoming worse (staying charged for about 4-6 hours. So I broke down and purchased an iPad Air 2.

An amazing difference. The more I use it the more I love it. It's blazing fast, and the screen is crystal clear.it is one of the best investments I've made. I will never go back to Android.

As far as Windows 10 goes I am very skeptical. Sure it is a free upgrade. But it will constantly update with no choice by the user. There won't be a Windows 11 because Windows 10 will evolve. So if Windows 10 surpasses the specs of the pc you will have to upgrade, or buy a new pc. No choice if you want to use Windows. And how about all the applications that will break with major Windows updates (remember no choice to hold off on updates, except for businesses, and only for a short period of time).

No thank you. I am so impressed with my iPad that when I purchase a new pc it will be an iMac.

I love my kindle fire hdx. Had it for a year and a half now and it's still chugging as good as ever. Only $99 and a great investment. I hardly use my desktop computer anymore.

I still have my original Kindle Fire, which runs better than my Nexus 7. If it weren't for the limitation in apps I need, I would probably still be using it. As far as the desktop goes I agree. I use it less and less over time. It still has its uses though, especially with professional apps. Yet it sure is nice to be laying on the couch, or in bed, while I'm surfing the internet, instead of sitting in a rigid chair. Broadband access iis becoming more important than owning a pc. I believe home pc's days are numbered. Mobile is more important.

Net neutrality is important if it helps people to afford the Internet. Yet I wouldn't necessarily be against tier pricing if education and personal applications are exempt. Charging more for entertainment doesn't bother me near as much. Cable and satellite television is are past their peak and downward trending. I don't mind subscription based services where the communication companies receive a fair slice. After all it is their medium that makes it possible. However, government needs to play a role in making sure greed doesn't prevail.

I am addicted to La Croix line of flavored sparkling waters.

I pronounce it "La Kwah", not "La Croy" as suggested on the website.

And I will not apologize for this or stop till you pry it from my cold turgid dead hands.

Well, I've had Windows 10 running for a while now and i like it. It also forced me to change browser since Edge sucks. I'm now a Chrome guy.

Why no thread on the marines kicking ass on a French train yesterday? I'd start one but for some reason I can't find the new thread button anymore. Maybe my thread starting privledges have been taken away.

I really dislike Apple products being that they are so locked down. Even my kids are thinking of switching out their iPhones to the new Galaxy S6.

My laptop is running Windows 10, and upgraded my home desktop, but really haven't done anything with them yet.

It's free now, or you can pay later. Eventually you will have to upgrade, or be stuck with the next XP.

My employer will not let an XP machine on the wireless network.

Photoshopped, but pretty close to the truth. Dubya had to have the daily presidential briefing read to him.

Even though I am not a fan of his presidency, the Reagan library is very cool.

Come to think of it, don't recall seeing a single book.

The former. Hot women say, "Hey, we're hot. Let's go buy some plane tickets and hang out near the Cinnebun on the other side of airport security."

Nothing will ever excuse that haircut.

On another note, I just learned that my grandfather is buried in the same cemetery as Lincoln, just one section over. I visited his unmarked grave a couple weeks ago. Him and all of my other ancestors.

I could see getting The Abe. Remarkably modern for its time.

James Buchanan, his predecessor.

Always thought the same, but while Hopkins could pull off Martin van Buren, don't think he could achieve the unique Buchanan mix of very closeted and very tired.

azgreg wrote:Anybody here ever use Dollar Shave Club?
I don't because I'm concerned that it's a money making ploy that's exploiting the razor cartridge scam. Despite what Dollar Shave Club says, here's what I suspect the reality of the total situation is:

1) Shaving product companies ridiculously overcharge for the cartridges.

2) Though we haven't discussed this among ourselves, most of us have figured out that the whole "blue strip" thing on those cartridges is a scam. In fact, you can continue to use one of those cartridges long after that strip turns white, and eventually crumbles apart. You can basically get away with about four cartridges per year.

3) Along comes Dollar Shave Club to take advantage of all those who still haven't figured out #2. The pitch is that they charge so much less than the companies do, but the catch is that you have to buy as many cartridges as you'd otherwise buy.

Meaning: it's cheaper to stick to four expensive cartridges per year.

Unless there's something I'm not understanding about this, which is entirely possible.

If I could take out a knife sharpener for disposable razors, i would....

Random Musing: It's probably wrong to pay for a "lost" library book so that you can keep it.

There's an obscure T.S. Elliot analysis that I've checked out three times, and can't readily find for sale, except on auction sites.

I won't do it, but it has crossed my mind to "lose" the book and pay for it through my library account.

It's really the opposite of what a library is all about.

But if you give me the author or editor(s) and title, I wouldn't be surprised if my wife can find it for sale somewhere other than auction sites. She's an information scientist, and she's found me rare, out-of-print books academic that I've insisted aren't for sale.
