One site forum makes up a very small constituency. In comparison there are numerous fans on the rivals site that rather have RR and just about half want nothing to do with Muschamp. And its silly to think that some anonymous fan sites have a significant pull with the AD. And I hope to high heave the Bryne never lets a forum dictate who he hires. Your link to the fan site as proof of something was over the top and a bit ridiculous.Harvey Specter wrote: Everyone is sitting around here fretting over the possibility of losing a guy who wants to go someplace where the constituents want nothing to do with him. You keep talking about this Stockholm Syndrome affected group, but I've yet to see them post.Harvey Specter wrote:Everyone is sitting around here fretting over the possibility of losing a guy who wants to go someplace where the constituents want nothing to do with him. Anyone in the "We are really lucky to have RR as our coach" camp really needs to go and visit that thread. 3 pages of comments so far, and I do not think I read a comment from ONE poster who wants Rodriguez. THEY ALL WANT MUSCHAMP UNEQUIVOCALLY AND WITHOUT ANY RESERVATION.
Even if Muschamp fell through, I am pretty sure they'd prefer ANYONE not name Rich Rodriguez. I thought I was pretty realistic about where is reputation sits... But even I have been over-estimating it severely. He's toxic.
Someone needs to send a link to that thread to Byrne... For the simple fact that he can break into hysterical laughter if RR tries to 'leverage' this situation into a raise. BETTER NOT HAPPEN. In fact I'd say we are overpaying relative to his best alternative... Maybe 10% more than what he might get at CBS? Use the savings to start a campaign for an indoor practice facility.
It sure looks to me like he wants this job and he is not going to get it... if he is as smart as he thought he was - he has a PR firm on retainer and they are drafting a statement (BEFORE RR is announced) that "Rich Rodriguez Is not going anywhere; he has no desire to coach anywhere other than the University of Arizona - which is where he plans to be next season and well into the future."
Not that most will buy it - but IF they wait to comment until after Muschamp is hired - NO ONE will. (Well, a few will buy it... There always are)

We really don't know what going on at this moment.tgrumpy2 wrote:Did Rich Rod go looking for a new job or did ADs come looking for him and he put them off to the point he was no longer their first choice? He was obviously on a lot of AD's short lists. I don't think anyone in here knows all the facts on this. An AD calls and asks if he's interested so Rich Rod says he'll listen as any right minded person in a highly competivie field would do. It leaks out and suddnely Rich Rod wants to leave, Rich Rod is interviewing at BillyBob U. We can't even seem to verify if it was a phone interview or an in person interview. Some sports writer somewhere said RR and two other candidates were in NC on Friday and I have trouble believing a school would fly all three candidates in here on the same day for an interview. Do you think they all toured the campus in the same van. Since the entire escapade started we've been getting untruths, half truths and nonsense and personally I'm waiting a day or two before I jump on the kill RR band wagon.

I did not post the link, and I suspect it does represent a small minority of the fanbase. If that is one extreme, and the other is split between RR and Muschamp - that only reinforces the point of how bad RR's stock is. Do I want Muschamp? Hell no, but that is a really low bar.OSUCat wrote:One site forum makes up a very small constituency. To be honest, I would hire RR again over Muschamp and wouldn't think twice.
He's raving just a bit.CatsbyAZ wrote:Findley's tweet are rather disconcerning
Then you aren't paying attention... Do they dominate the site? No, but they exist and some are pretty active. And after a less-than-stellar fan turnout, we can always expect to hear "He is going to leave and we have no one but ourselves to blame... We don't deserve Rich Rod!" And then shred any fan who has not been perceived to be "all-in".Chicat wrote:You keep talking about this Stockholm Syndrome affected group, but I've yet to see them post.Harvey Specter wrote:Everyone is sitting around here fretting over the possibility of losing a guy who wants to go someplace where the constituents want nothing to do with him. That tweet is seriously lacking any context... It reads as though we hired away Shembecler in the early 80's to replace Mackovic.Ryan Finley wrote:It’s not like #ArizonaWildcats attendance skyrocketed when they hired Michigan’s former coach anyway. Drew as much/little more under Stoops.
Interesting... methinks that either RR knows that he's the guy, or he isn't getting it.OSUCat wrote:

Tomorrow will be very interesting. If SC names Muschamp, I bet RR's presser will have more people streaming it than any since the one announcing his hiring.
Like I said yesterday, RR is everyone's "B" and "C" option, and he still wants out of Tucson.azcat49 wrote:RR is not the guy. Even if he is at this point WTF cares. We are celebrating a great win Friday with coaches that care about Tucson and perform when called upon.
SC doesn't want his ass either. It's Muschamp
I think it is a generally accepted protocol and form of professional courtesy, but not some mandate with consequences. Unless, of course - it is written into a coach's contract.azgreg wrote:It's my understanding (and i may be way wrong here) that a school must get permission from another school in order to talk to one of their coaches if they are under contract.
I don't think Muschamp would be a good hire at all... with an asterisk (hire a good DC and don't meddle) I'd say RR is marginally better, but far from a sure thing. He has won more conference games than he has lost once in his last 7 tries.Gladiator Cat wrote:Harvey,Harvey Specter wrote:Interesting... methinks that either RR knows that he's the guy, or he isn't getting it.OSUCat wrote:

Putting defensive success, or lack there of aside, Rich Rod is a far better coach than Muschamp and realistically SC would be stupid to pick Muschamp over RR.
Muschamp is going to bomb at SC if hired. Rich Rod could very well make it work with defensive changes.

How is Muschamp going to bomb SC when his time at Florida when had problem on offense with three different OC in four years.Gladiator Cat wrote:Harvey,Harvey Specter wrote:Interesting... methinks that either RR knows that he's the guy, or he isn't getting it.OSUCat wrote:

If doesn't matter if their no info that determined RR is leaving, If SC doesn't hired Muschamp or Riley then back up plan is RR. What suck is that RR himself isn't saying a fucking word about it at all.ASUHATER! wrote:I have yet to see anything that leads me to believe he is leaving.

Good point I had not thought about... Although if he leaves next year we should still have a good chunk available. Although if we fire him at any point, doesn't he still get most of it?RazorsEdgeAZ wrote:How would you like to be the donor who gave RR shares and agreed to change the schedule to pay RR in 3-4 months? "Congrats Rich Rod on a great run, turning around AZ football and your belief in Tucson community. Here's you're check!"
South Carolina: Reading the tea leaves on this one; but fact that Will Muschamp hasn’t been announced yet leads one to believe this is Rich Rod’s job. Thinking Rich might be headed back to Arizona to let his squad know in person tomorrow. Will update when more is known; but feels like this will be leaked / announced tomorrow after Rich has had a chance to speak with his team.

Nah, if you know you're not getting the job you put out a statement saying you withdrew your name from consideration so you can save face.tgrumpy2 wrote:Let me throw another wrench in the gears here. What if RichRod is just agreed to be polite and let the guy that got the job go back and take care of business at his school? If he did that everyone would pretty much know muchcamp got the job. I have no idea what the real story is but every other version has been farted out here in this topic so I thought I'd add this to it.Chicat wrote:Nah, if you know you're not getting the job you put out a statement saying you withdrew your name from consideration so you can save face.tgrumpy2 wrote:Let me throw another wrench in the gears here.
