One site forum makes up a very small constituency. In comparison there are numerous fans on the rivals site that rather have RR and just about half want nothing to do with Muschamp. And its silly to think that some anonymous fan sites have a significant pull with the AD. And I hope to high heave the Bryne never lets a forum dictate who he hires. Your link to the fan site as proof of something was over the top and a bit ridiculous.

To be honest, I would hire RR again over Muschamp and wouldn't think twice.

It sure looks to me like he wants this job and he is not going to get it... if he is as smart as he thought he was - he has a PR firm on retainer and they are drafting a statement (BEFORE RR is announced) that "Rich Rodriguez Is not going anywhere; he has no desire to coach anywhere other than the University of Arizona - which is where he plans to be next season and well into the future."

Not that most will buy it - but IF they wait to comment until after Muschamp is hired - NO ONE will. (Well, a few will buy it... There always are)

Did Rich Rod go looking for a new job or did ADs come looking for him and he put them off to the point he was no longer their first choice? He was obviously on a lot of AD's short lists. I don't think anyone in here knows all the facts on this. An AD calls and asks if he's interested so Rich Rod says he'll listen as any right minded person in a highly competivie field would do. It leaks out and suddnely Rich Rod wants to leave, Rich Rod is interviewing at BillyBob U. We can't even seem to verify if it was a phone interview or an in person interview. Some sports writer somewhere said RR and two other candidates were in NC on Friday and I have trouble believing a school would fly all three candidates in here on the same day for an interview. Do you think they all toured the campus in the same van. Since the entire escapade started we've been getting untruths, half truths and nonsense and personally I'm waiting a day or two before I jump on the kill RR band wagon.

The absolute bottom line that can never be talked away, ran shallow cover for or intellectually rationalized is that every time you look at the sidelines next year and the year after that and see Rich Rod, you will know deep down inside that your HC is a guy that would rather be some place else.

This isn't even a guy looking for a big step up like Larry Smith did with USC. No, RR is willing take a mediocre job in (SC) that is nothing more than a lateral move to get out of Tucson.

All the thumb sucking apologist that run cover for their coaching gods will get your wish on the sideline next year.

Aside from what many of you think in this corrupted world of Orwellian think, words and statements still do hold meaning to most folks.

The OKG and any moral high ground that existed before is surely gone or subdued.

Make no bones about it, no one will ever believe RR is here for longer than the next opportunity that pops up for a another job, most importantly the recruits and parents. And without those special recruits, your goose is cooked.

Good luck, because with that never expiring open ended plane ticket that hangs around RR's neck every time you see him is now his defining albatross in recruiting for the rest of his time in Tucson.

Hiring the most talented guy for the job or the right guy for the job has never meant more than it does today.

It's my understanding (and i may be way wrong here) that a school must get permission from another school in order to talk to one of their coaches if they are under contract.

Seriously, something quirky really is going on in the guy's head. We went through this with Louisville. And a lot of us on here don't even half-remember he did this to West Virginia almost/sort've taking the Alabama job all while going dark and ending up back in Morgantown with zero explanation.

Bottom line I think most fans will react if RR still here next season - thereafter, ii he's winning, has winning conference record and beating ASU, most will overlook this. If he's losing, marginal and losing to ASU, that cushion and patience with him will be thinner than it would without this episode. Patience won't be there. Tolerance level for that will be razor thin

And I have to expect the decision for the SC job already made. Assume the two coaches already know. Been asked to wait out today to disclose anything. Expect SC will officially announce tomorrow and National media to leak soon after the SEC champ game tonight. Guessing

I rather have him back but if South Carolina choose Muschamp over RR, I'm not going to be happy, RR has already burn the bridges by not saying a freaking word. Not being paranoid about it. Really not. But the Finley tweets come soon after Byrne lands in Tucson and Finley begins to tweet stuff like -can't raise the stakes $$ everytime someone comes calling, Byrne has a plan. Lots of big names left with Western ties. Byrne wants RR to stay, lots of good coaches would jump at $3m a year etc. And term like "hired Michigan’s former coach anyway" lol

Almost like someone leaked and asked him to help soften any blow

I did not post the link, and I suspect it does represent a small minority of the fanbase. If that is one extreme, and the other is split between RR and Muschamp - that only reinforces the point of how bad RR's stock is. Do I want Muschamp? Hell no, but that is a really low bar.

If you don't think that an AD should pay attention to fan sentiment on a hire, then I think you are dreaming; ever hear of "winning the press conference"? Their job is to run a P & L, and gets fans to spend money on tickets and gear, and put their asses in stadium seats.

I suspect that you will wake up tomorrow morning and feel "blessed" if SC hires Muschamp and "distraught" if it is Rodriguez gets the nod. I won't feel either... he's not THAT good and our program intangibles are not THAT bad.

If he comes back next season and does not win >1/2 our conference games AND beat ASU, I want him gone. I believe we can spend a good bit less and get mediocre results... with a guy who might be happy to be here.

Guy is the most engaging and personable coach we have ever had in a high profile job - by a wide margin - but that only goes so far. I have been stunned that it has not translated to more success on the recruiting trail... but maybe there is something to it.

Then you aren't paying attention... Do they dominate the site? No, but they exist and some are pretty active. And after a less-than-stellar fan turnout, we can always expect to hear "He is going to leave and we have no one but ourselves to blame... We don't deserve Rich Rod!" And then shred any fan who has not been perceived to be "all-in".

That tweet is seriously lacking any context... It reads as though we hired away Shembecler in the early 80's to replace Mackovic.

Stoops was a considerably hotter name at the time of his hiring than RR was at the time of his. RR was damaged goods... That tweet should have included "the coach with the worst winning % in recent UM history".

Byrne took a calculated risk with RR and it was a really smart (but somewhat risky) move, IMO. But I seem to recall more excitement around the Stoops hire than I do RR.

Muschamp is going to bomb at SC if hired. Rich Rod could very well make it work with defensive changes.

Like I said yesterday, RR is everyone's "B" and "C" option, and he still wants out of Tucson.

I think it is a generally accepted protocol and form of professional courtesy, but not some mandate with consequences. Unless, of course - it is written into a coach's contract.

I want to say I remember that happening with a coach at BC a few years ago? He had a clause that he must seek permission to interview for another job, but ignored it and interviewed anyway. He didn't get the job he was going after, and got fired with cause by BC - disqualifying him from receiving his termination buyout.

I don't think Muschamp would be a good hire at all... with an asterisk (hire a good DC and don't meddle) I'd say RR is marginally better, but far from a sure thing. He has won more conference games than he has lost once in his last 7 tries.

He is not a great recruiter, and He is not going to have great success fielding OKG teams against SEC athletes every week. (See his performances vs USC, UCLA, Stanford) His systems don't produce pros, and elite prospects want to make it to the League.

The SEC offers plenty of other options which afford them that opportunity.

Dude gives his coaches all the things they need to succeed. Wait until RR has to deal with a bunch of SC boosters when he goes 1-3 against Clemson.

Just ran into a player's mom. They don't know anything either. RR told them during the week his agent looks around for him, but at that time he wasn't planning on going anywhere.

She wondered if RR is going to show up for the banquet tomorrow. I said I thought he would be there, but it might be to say goodbye.

She said they like RR but they all know it's a business and wouldn't blame him if he left.

Good point I had not thought about... Although if he leaves next year we should still have a good chunk available. Although if we fire him at any point, doesn't he still get most of it?

It's like there's nothing glaring that points against that. I don't buy in that Muschamp or RR don't already know the outcome. No reason for RR's camp to help out the SEC and not say anything now that the SEC champ game over. Even it was to say RR staying or not a candidate any longer. Which means Muschamp. Why stall any longer? nothing in it for AZ by doing that. Just to drag it out with recruits and players because South Carolina and SEC said pretty please? That'd just be mean.

If Muschamp going with Smart to Georgia, then Smart just tonight told his players he would stay for playoffs. Maybe Muschamp waiting for Smart to be officially announced?

We already know Tanner said he would announce by end of tomorrow.

If RRod does bolt for more humid pastures then GByrne needs to be ready to strike.....and fast. The biggest Football issue at AZ has always been recruiting good players. Any potential coaching search that resembles South Carolinas (53 days and counting) and we would wind up with a recruiting class that would be composed of a couple of 2 Star "OKG"s who won't have any other FBS offers. Thats always been the single biggest issue with AZ coaching changes..........the piss poor recruiting class that follows takes 4-5 years to recover from. And its not as if RRod has been stacking the cupboard with studs.

We have already lost 2 DL's (which we can't afford to lose) and the current fiasco won't help matters any, even if RRod stays.

No. Was only true if Auburn had made it the SEC champ game. Buyout clause ended after last regular season game OR champ game if they made that far.

If he did that everyone would pretty much know muchcamp got the job. I have no idea what the real story is but every other version has been farted out here in this topic so I thought I'd add this to it.
