I thought he wore a Washington jersey and he had one that was 1/2 AZ 1/2 Udub.
When and why would he have an asu Jersey on?

This would actually be a really good thing

Book was a good cop to Miller. Miller's coaching the plays and then Book comforting the players is what got them to perform their best. Book without the bullshit would be great.

I'm not sure there was a better hire that could be made that would be "best for the program." The sole requirements of this hire was that it had to be an African-American (check) with an ability to recruit at a high level (remains to be seen, but has already got our foot in the door with Seattle guys that didn't exist prior). The fact that it's an alum certainly doesn't hurt and obviously it builds goodwill with the fanbase much like the hire of Murphy rebuilt the goodwill with the basketball alums.

I'm not sure what you mean by calling AZ a stepping stone by hiring Jet? Help me out there.

I think too much stock is put into assistant coaches...

I like the hire for all the reasons that Choo stated, but if you look at the history of Miller, I'm not sure the assistant coaches have made that much of a difference.

He's gone as soon as a head coaching gig opens up. Maybe 2 years? Is anyone keeping track of how many we have lost? We're the Kentucky of coaches leaving early.

We need more Romar's on our staff

So we’re a pit stop because he will be here for 2 years? But we need more Romars...who was here 1 year? What’s your argument again?

This is basketball where roughly 90% of all your players in a 10 year period are African-American. You can't have a staff of all white guys. Hell even if it wasn't basketball you need some diversity.

Ummm what is wrong with that? If Jet gets a head coaching opportunity he should take it. I doubt he would in two years as an assistant though as he doesn't have the coaching resume. Any coach who gets a promotion that Arizona can't give them should take it 100 times out of 100 like Justin Gainey just did.

I think JT gets a shot at a HC gig within 2 years. He was in the running for a pretty decent one (lost out to another former player) before he took the job. He has a ton of connections in basketball at all levels and once he establishes a little bona fide... doors will open.

In the meantime I think he is going to do a tremendous job for CSM and UofA. Hope he stays more than just a year or two. I think if he ends up staying 3 years we will be in a FF. As JT said, the job isn't finished until it is done (paraphrased).

One foot out the door this whole offseason.

So now we have two assistant coaching spots open - supposedly Fois from Phoenix targeted for one (not sure what is holding that up if its still on the table).

Recruiting is hard with only two coaches on the bench. Hopefully Lloyd has an established recruiting assistant in mind already.

Does Jason Gardner's DUI prevent him from becoming an asst coach? Did he recruit well at IUPUI or Memphis? Who else is on the radar?

Was actually really happy JT was expected back. We need to maintain a connection to the Olson era and our "proud tradition," imo.

No, but also no and no.

Someone with actual info can chime in on who is on the radar (or who should be), but again someone with good US recruiting ties seems like the bet (and given the rest of the coaching staff is white, probably a black man with US recruiting ties would be best).

Gardner has the Alumni connection responsibility in his job description, so we have a strong connection still on staff.

Mav's job went to a former LA Sparks WNBA player. And it seems like Terry is dead set on getting into the NBA coaching circle, so he's taking what is available.

He and Lloyd never seemed like much of a fit anyways.

Yeah, I get the impression if Miller wasn't railroaded by our incompetent administration, Terry would have stuck around for a few years.

I am OK with the Jet taking off. We need some hard core recruiters on this staff. Not sure if Gardner is that guy and I like him in the position he is in.

One oddity to me is I think we have had a bench coach position open for awhile and I wonder why we haven’t filled that?

Maybe it's being vacated this season preemptively due to the NOA. You know, just to be safe.

Good for JET. He shouldn't be expected to want to endure the $h!tshow that the inexperienced and unqualified UofA basketball coaching staff and a patchwork team are about to present to the fans. Congrats Lloyd groupies...now alumni are turning their backs to the program. It's just a matter of time before JG makes a run for it too.

I’ve heard different.

From a fairly good friend of Terry’s: the hope was that after being exonerated or not severely punished by the IARP that Miller would move on of his own accord and that Jet would be the coach-in-waiting.

I never got the idea that the recruiting was bad.

CTL came in this off-season late and tried to get a few guys at the 25th hour. we didn’t end up landing either and everyone flipped their shit. He’s got us ending up on few lists of highly sought after players. Gotta prove some stuff through the season and then the dominos will fall as they may.

I’m looking forward to future classes and what he can do after putting a product on the court, and getting a full/normal offseason to put in work.
