UCLA just pounding Stanford, not unlike us but they may score 110 if they want

Stanford has been chipping away by doing work on the boards. Also, UCLA free throw shooting has let them down.

Yep, Furd actually looks decent tonight. Maybe UCLA knew the game was over 10 minutes in and have been toying with them, just trading baskets.

One thing that scares me about AZ against teams like UCLA, is that UCLA never seems to give up extended runs. They might give up 8 straight but then they hit two 3's. We have given up too many 17-3 runs that worries me

I saw a lot of unforced turnovers and a conscientious effort to get Iham out of his funk. Combined that and the disparity in shooting percentages and FT shooting, the game wasn't in doubt really. Cal got the game within 6 before we got a bailout foul called when Aaron Holiday did some great acting.

Apples and oranges, Chi. Come on. AZ football has never won a damn thing. It's remarkable that that stadium is ever half full, and it really speaks more to the popularity of football than to some kind of football "tradition" at UofA. Can you imagine how packed our football stadium would be if we had even a small portion of the titles that UCLA hoops has?

eh percentage wise our stadium is still more full. and it's still a good 4-5 times as many people as show up to ucla basketball games...in a metro area not even 1/10th the size...and for a program that's nowhere near as big as ucla's basketball program

UCLA is really good on offense. They have the ability to match runs.

We can beat them, but we can't allow them spurts. They are a good team, and you just don't beat a good team letting off the gas. If you can play a full game and accept that they will make a lot of shots on offense, they will give up chances to make a lot of shots of your own.

We're not beating UCLA. Not this year. Maybe if Leaf had stuck with his original choice and Trier were eligible.

Saved for reference.

Is this what you believe or are you setting up the beachcat jinx post?

I think we can compete, and win in Westwood, without AT. And will.

Again, we're not beating UCLA this year. Not in Westwood, not in Tucson.

Considering you are "scared" of your own shadow, I would assume you do.

Are you planning on buying tickets to the Cats' first round NIT game?

You and Machina should get a hotel room for basketball season.

I'm sorry I had less than positive thoughts about your favorite team.

Oh by the way, it was a six point game at halftime. But I'm sure your favorite coach told the Bruins to let up off the gas in the second half since there was nothing to worry about.

Getting back to Chi's original point, I don't think ucla was ever scared last night. Game was never in question.

Sans Trier, we're going to get beaten pretty badly next weekend.

It was a 2 point game late in the first half. Coming out of the first TV timeout of the 2nd half it was still single digits.

So that wasn't the Arizona game? Sure looked like Sean Miller and company kicking ass.

Asking a diehard Bruins fan like you though doesn't make much sense. Can any true Arizona fans confirm for me that I did indeed watch Arizona kick the shit out of ASU and that the game was never as close as the UCLA/Rado game? Thanks in advance...

UCLA rarely gets out to big early leads against good teams because of its terrible defense. It feels like everyone is making every shot, until you look up at the scoreboard halfway through the second half and suddenly it's 80-60.

With Arizona, it's pretty much the opposite. Arizona plays great defense and tends to tire on that end or they have such a big lead they can take their foot off the gas, so big halftime leads shrink.

I understand that there are exceptions but this seems to be the general tendency.

I don't really see how when the giant lead was formed matters. The two teams are employing totally different strategies that seem to be delivering them similar results.

In a vacuum, blowing out Colorado on the road is more impressive than blowing out ASU at home, but of course it's pointless to draw grand conclusions about UCLA vis-a-vis Arizona based on the results of one game each.

There, everyone happy now?

I've watched both teams extensively this season.

UCLA is good, but certainly not "Arizona has no place on the court with them" good.

And I'm not being blindly optimistic, Even without Trier, I think Arizona can walk into westwood and come away with a win. The way PJC, KA, KS, RA, LM, and CC have been playing lately, I feel even more confident in that assessment.

Arizona is gelling into something beautiful this season. Its incredible to watch. At the sizzle and spice of AT, and we'll have one hell of a Gumbo as they say in Louisiana. But even without him, I wouldn't be surprised of UofA comes away with a win.

Thats why they play the games.

We won't get blown out. But we will lose. Again, just need a split in L.A. We'll have a chance for payback when UCLA visits McKale Center, which is in Tucson, Arizona (according to Chi).

While I get the UCLA "banter" we better be focused on SC Thur night. While they have been floundering lately that game could bite us in the ass if we are thinking about those big, bad Bruins. ;)

I'm sure CSM will have the team focused but that game worries me more.

It definitely doesn't worry me more, but you're right: easy to overlook the Thursday game. I think we'll beat USC by 5 to 10 points. They've been overrated lately having racked up lots of wins, but against fairly weak competition. OR killed them.

So prince Ali has been cleared but has chosen not to play this year and instead sit out. Weird situation considering if he leaves, he needs to sit out another year. Who needs depth?
