I need inguinal hernia surgery. I had it on my right side in the mid 90s, so I know the signs. Left side this time. Oh joy. Time to find a vascular surgeon.

I had it done (both sides) maybe 8 years ago. They did it laparoscopicly... not too long of a recovery... frozen peas are your friend!

That might turn out to be an option this time. My previous surgeon said "the best way to repair hernia is the old fashioned way" (non-laparoscopically), meaning less failures and less re-dos. Since then I've talked to numerous guys who've had failures and re-dos who wished they'd have gone to the longer, more painful procedure/recovery. But the fact that the younger you are the worse the recovery is, and now that I'm looking at 67 this year rather than 35, I have some questions to ask.

The only thing I remember of the whole thing is waking up in the recovery room and the doctor asking if I wanted to be wheeled back to my room or if I wanted to walk. I tried to walk but couldn't. Fucking military doctors (Davis Monthan).

My lifelong buddy from childhood has esophageal cancer which is stage 4 and also in one of his optic nerves. He's undergoing chemo and radiation.

Just found out that one of my best buds from my 20s died a few days ago.

My dog barely made it through it through the night. She's 15 and has heart issues. Today might be the day to stop her suffering.

Trying to prepare for a trip to Utah in about 9 days and my buddy, who has been planning this trip with us for months, texts me that he may not be going because he's having trouble finding a boarder for his wife's 3 dogs.

These fucking idiot Trumpies seem near ready to assault me and others and their idiotic social media posts are just traitorous-even though they don't know it. Making me nauseous.

Fuck. Venting indeed.

Yea I'm afraid that isn't on the horizon for us either. She's 32 weeks with our 2nd and we've exclusively co-slept with the first. That won't change with the 2nd either. Our first is incredibly kind and smart but also very sensitive. She's never slept with anyone but the two of us. My wife and I have had some days here and there where we were able to travel or do things with friends overnight but never together due to the sleep situation. We technically haven't ever spent more than 3 hours alone together in 3 years.

Our almost 3 year old will spend the nights we're at the hospital with our one family friend we trust with her. I'm hoping that once our newborn is a bit older we will have set that groundwork to take even an overnight staycation together (wife and I that is). It's a lot for sure.

I hear ya, barely.

The last year I was working, there was constant construction outside of my office, from May of 2019 until we were sent home in March of 2020. The noise was terrible. Besides the constant sawing and hammering, the beep beep beep of construction vehicle backing up never ceased. Other employees were buying noise canceling headphones. I have a hearing disorder and can't tolerate much sound, but that was brutal.

Fuck you u12 parents and team mom’s husband.

We just went to the wire with the best team in league, lost 3-2, didn’t get blown out like last year every fucking game (I was not a coach, just sideline dad); most of all the kids had fun and gelled as a team in their first game.

We will get a win this year

You try managing a fucking roster when your head is out cause his kid is sick, and you have three subs for 9v9 play. Guess what, the positions are gonna fucking change, cause I can’t have my best strikers playing 45+ in fucking 95 degree heat and expect to have them at the end of the game.

Oh and it’s a rec league, and we’re all volunteers, and my goalie wanted to pant midfield in the second and I have to develop players at all spots in my first game and we’ve only been practicing 3 weeks.

What were not doing “shooting drills?” Or throw ins? Fuck that noise, we focused on conditioning, spacing, going up the sides, passing, advancing the ball, and attaching at the point of contact/agrresion on d.

Everything that you saw today. So fuck you if you don’t get to see Sally do a throw in. We’ll get to it in time.

Unless you want to go threw background and come sign up as an assistant, the only think you should be saying to me at the end of the game is thank you.

Fuckers…if you want that shit, go play comp ball, but your probably too poor and or uninformed to even consider it.

Sorry all…rant off. I am so damn proud of my daughter and her u12 team today. Fucking warriors. Did we get out of position at times yeah, but I got to give the players breaks and do the best we can to fill spots in the formation. So we work it around and kids get exposure to different spots.

All good, thanks for the vent.

My oldest grandson is 6 and plays on a rec league. The rec department had to send out an email a couple days ago to all the parents and coaches reminding them that this is a rec league, it's just for fun, and every kid should play every game, and throughout the season every kid should play every position.

I used to coach baseball, soccer and basketball, all rec league. The parents are the absolute worst, although some coaches think they are playing for the national championship.

When I coached U12 we didn’t have any issues with any parents.

Our older son’s U14 team that same year had the cops called on us twice because of abuse of the refs. Wasn’t me though. I only yell encouragement at my own child and praise toward all the other kids.

Bingo that’s it Chi.

We have young team too with several new players who have never played before.

Like i said, I’m so proud of the team today. Some of the parents acted like they had tickets to a la liga game.

Set pieces will come. Our goal was to get everyone on the same page, and 1v1, 2v2 3v2 with goalie play.

Get comfortable passing, traping, change direction, pull backs, and moving in space without the ball.

Wish these few parents understood that.

I've officiated youth sports for 30 years. Mostly high school but some off season stuff with younger kids.

Generally, the younger the kids, the less the parents know and the more unsportsmanlike they behave.

Any suggestions? I used my wife's work laptop to download a Windows recovery file from the Lenovo website to a brand new USB stick. Started the computer and went to the boot screen and it loaded up with the Lenovo product recovery without an issue. But after about 95% of the recovery is complete, it gets stuck. I've tried 3 times and it never finishes.

Do you have the Windows activation key? I would just do a clean install of Windows without the Lenovo bloatware.

Also if you do get a BSOD, write down the error code. Might be video related too, besides RAM.

My recommendation to everyone here:

Everybody needs a PCP. Find one (preferably younger than yourself) you like and trust ASAP, and, no matter how "healthy" you think you are, see him/her annually. Get them to know you well, and, as you develop one, know your medical history even better.

Nothing is worse than getting a difficult to diagnose medical condition without established medical providers - and, as you age. shit's likely to happen...

Good luck Greg! (At 60, the "find a younger PCP" part of my recommendations will be less difficult - even if not "easy")

Congrats on turning 60. Keep calling. If you just need a routine annual you might be able to get it by seeing the physician's assistant instead of a full blown MD. Also, if you're up against a time deadline you might consider a "concierge Doc". But it'll cost you.

Gotta agree with PC here. Where I worked we had very good health coverage. I had a coworker who was a good friend, but he never took care of his health. Never was checked for prostate cancer or had a colonoscopy. Just didn't do it. One time we were playing racquetball and he tore something in his knee. Never did get it looked at, just gave up sports.

One night he was shitting blood and it wouldn't stop. Went to the emergency room and they diagnosed him with colon cancer. Once they got the bleeding to stop, they asked him who his PCP was to send the results. He said he didn't have one.

Fortunately he did have a medical happy ending. Had to wear a bag for awhile, but eventually they cured the cancer and they were able to hook up his colon again.

In term's of Greg's physical, did you check out any of those Urgent Care centers who also do physicals for businesses? When I was a vanpool driver I had to get one every 2 years, and they sent me to one of those places. They don't have continuing patients like doctor's offices, just what is sent to them so the waiting time for a physical is very short.
