Last time I checked the map of the 50 states there was no Dixie so this is a made up bullshit squad we should be crushing.
Imagine my surprise finding out Dixie State is in Utah. WTF? I was guessing Mississippi.
It’s in George, UT. Named after George Young, Brigham’s brother. Definitely NOT a saint, in my book.

The list of 20 potential sites will be whittled down to the actual 16 sites at 5:30 tonight. Brackets announced tomorrow at 9 am I think.

Still projecting UCSB and GCU in our region which would be very tough 3 and 4 seeds.

Stanford’s pitching I think gets them through to Omaha in the projected bracket and you would have to like Oregon as the 11 seed moving on as well.

If we are a 5 out games against Texas Tech should be high scoring. Two of the best offensive teams in the country. Our bullpen has been solid but this past weekend our starters were inconsistent and Price still hasn’t pitched in weeks

Preston pitched an inning on Friday. 3 up, 3 down. He was one of the bright spots of that debacle.

Anticlimactic but we were picked as one of the 16 regional sites. Now just need that top 8 seed. 7 SEC, 3 PAC, 3 Big 12 and 3 others

The 16 regional sites, with host institutions and records are as follows:

Austin, Texas - Texas (42-15)
Columbia, South Carolina – South Carolina (33-21)
Eugene, Oregon – Oregon (37-14)
Fayetteville, Arkansas – Arkansas (46-10)
Fort Worth, Texas – TCU (39-17); through games played 5/29/2021
Gainesville, Florida – Florida (38-20)
Greenville, North Carolina – East Carolina (41-15)
Knoxville, Tennessee – Tennessee (45-16)
Lubbock, Texas – Texas Tech (36-15)
Nashville, Tennessee – Vanderbilt (40-15)
Oxford, Mississippi – Ole Miss (41-19)
Ruston, Louisiana – Louisiana Tech (40-18)
South Bend, Indiana – Notre Dame (30-11)
Stanford, California – Stanford (33-14)
Starkville, Mississippi – Mississippi St. (40-15)
Tucson, Arizona – Arizona (40-15)

I mean we won the Pac 12, are #8 in the RPI and are tied for the 4th most wins in baseball this season, so theres no reason we shouldn't be a top 8 seed. We probably should be around #5 or so.

I count 6 teams with more than 40 wins in the list above. How are we tied for 4th?

How good is GCU’s Friday night guy? Can’t imagine across the country there are better teams seeded 4th then this desert team. Overall a brutal regional to open things up but man would I love to see an SEC team at HiCo with a trip to Omaha on the line

It's interesting. The SEC...oops, I mean NCAA...tournament selection committee awards SEVEN home field advantage host slots to SEC teams. The Pac-12 gets 3, the Big XII gets 3 (because we're each less than half as good as the SEC), generic Deep South schools get 2, and Notre Dame gets the other one.

Note that only one SEC school travels out of their home region, with LSU going to Oregon. Meanwhile, the Pac-12's UCLA, Oregon St, and Arizona St are all shipped out to Texas. Meanwhile, it's ironic that the SEC always starts out controlling the initial assumed strongest power ratings (because they play themselves), and it becomes a fait accompli at the end of the year as a result as they end up with the strongest power ratings. Meanwhile, SEC hosts will see Jacksonville, NJIT, Northeastern, South Alabama, Wright St, Liberty, Presbyterian, Indiana St, SE Missouri St, Samford, and Campbell, among others. We'll get a packed regional with GCU, and UC Santa Barbara joining Oklahoma St (but GCU and UCSB don't have those super-power Southern power ratings gifted to them.) And, along those same lines, some good Far West teams like Long Beach St, San Diego St, and some others, are left completely out of the tournament. It behooves you to play small-conference Southern teams out-of-conference, rather than nearby Far West teams whom the Southerners don't respect, and some times you have to travel and deal with their biased umps. So, in almost every respect, the South stacks the deck to benefit themselves all season long.

Be all of that as it may, it's obviously great to be in and hosting, as expected, with a path to hosting a Super Regional. It would look like our path to Omaha would be getting by Oklahoma St, followed by taking two of three from Mississippi St at Hi Corbett in a Super Regional.

LET'S GO CATS!!!!!

Looking at their schedule they don't seem to have a regular Friday night guy. The guy who started their first game in teh conference tourney is a Freshman and only went 2.1 innings.

I went to see who pitched against us when they beat us in April, and they used 7! Pitchers. It seems lately Pierson Ohl is their guy. Interestingly, he shut out Dixie State a few weeks ago in a 7 inning mercy- rule game.

Gonzaga is the team that got the shaft, big time. How they missed on a regional is beyond me. Well until you realize they gave it to SEC South Carolina.

Now they go to Oregon and at least one west coast top 20 team will be out. Only three hosts west of Texas which is sad

Went to the super regional against Louisville in 2012 and they weren't serving alcohol even though it was available during the regular season.

FWIW, South Carolina is hosting a regional for Old Dominion, whose home stadium isn't good enough and wasn't able to submit a bid with the minor league ballpark near them in time for consideration. Sucks to see another SEC regional, but it's ODU who got a regional over Gonzaga.

Although we played GCU twice they never faced either Silseth or Irvin.

I think Silseth gets the ball because he’s been our Friday pitcher and has been pretty consistent.

That sounds about right. Good analysis of many of the regionals. Just hoping Silseth and Irvin rebound and give us two quality starts.

If we win the first two I love our chances as we will be deep into the pens of these other teams and we can let the bats take over.

That first game wi be interesting as we get GCU and their #1. They are a tough out and I bet they bring 500+ fans down to watch them play all weekend

I hope the team that played Dixie State never shows up again. I would like to see Silseth pitch game two. I know you have to win the first game, but you have to trust that your players will get it done against GCU.

I don't understand why hosts don't go 2-1 more often. With the regional format, there's no material difference between losing either game 1 or 2, other than the pressure begins earlier. You should be able to get past the 4 with your 2 guy, and you've got your ace for the better team.

But, I'm also not a professional baseball coach so who knows

JJ said all teams go into game one with all hands on deck, including throwing all your starters if need be. I found that interesting that they put great value in staying in the winners bracket.

I would think you stick to your game plan for starters in game 1 and 2 and everyone else is available out of the pen in game 1. Use Nichols and Murphy if you need to but hopefully whomever we start goes 7 innings and we hand it off to Vanelle or Price

Couple of big jobs are open. Texas A&M fired their coach and LSU’s coach is retiring. We all know the SEC could pay a college baseball coach 1m a year easy and provide hefty raises to those assistant coaches. JJ has to be attractive in some way and we might be vulnerable after having to pay Adia while still paying Sumlin and Miller.

I know but ahead here but those kind of jobs come with deep pockets.
