5 girls have entered the portal, 3 bench/rotational position players and 2 pitchers in Elish and Fontes. Needless to say Arizona needs to add some pitching.

Why such high turnover? A lot of girls have left the program over the past few years.

Because they do not have to sit out a year. asu right now has 6 girls in the transfer portal, including former Cat Marissa Schuld.

6 ASU players in the portal is explainable. Their coach is leaving. 5 UA players? Why? Does UCLA or Oklahoma have this kind of turnover?

Because Arizona's current roster is inbalanced eligibility-wise. All the starting position players are young and going nowhere any time soon. In regards to the pitchers, Fontes has been here two years and has pitched sparingly. Netz is returning and Somerndike is going to get a lot of work, so she wants more of an opportunity. As far as Elish goes, I'm not sure, but her sister was a very accomplished pitcher and transferred twice, so maybe that one is in the DNA? Plenty of huge programs have this amount of girls transferring out or more. Florida State was the national 2 seed this year, they have 5 transfers as well. Bama has 6, LSU 5, Oregon 4, etc.

I think Sophia Carroll will definitely have competition at SS as well.

Carroll has to hit. A .200 hitter at this level will not cut it.
