Writer not aware of latest info my guess, therefore grain of salt rule applies.

JJ's camp had to walk back that report. Apparently the writer took some liberties with what JJ said, or at least interpreted things in a way they would have rathered he hadn't.
In truth, there is a leader in his recruitment. A lot would have to happen for that to change.
But JJ and his mom are being smart right now and not shutting the door on any opportunities.
I'm not trying to be argumentative here, butI don't get quite get this. If you're a good high school basketball player looking for the right "fit" then I guess it would make sense. But JJ seems like he would absolutely start at any program in the country next season, regardless of where he goes. Any school would welcome him with open arms, no? What exactly would have to happen for the current leader to no longer be his school of choice? Does the leader in his recruitment know they're the leader and also know that as long as things don't change then he's going to commit to that school in February?

Why tip his hand? When he's ready, the school he picks will welcome him with open arms. He doesn't gain anything by pointing in a particular direction.
It would help us fans who are salivating to know, but JJ stands to gain nothing. When he decides, that school will roll out the red carpet and fall madly in love.

I think it's smart to wait because any number of things can happen at the schools he's considering. Keeping his recruitment open means he gets to take his visits, and make sure that the program he chooses is heading in the right direction and that there isn't a clearly better choice for him out there. As Spaceman points out, he gains nothing by signing early or announcing.

Well yeah i might have chased a couple dumb tweets around
All it ever got me was down
Then there were those that made me feel good
But never as good as I'm feeling right now
JJ you're the only one that's ever known how
To make me wanna live like I wanna live now
I said yeah yeah
(Yeah, yeah)
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
The waiting is the hardest part
Every day stinks like a fart
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part

It was
reported last week, apparently erroneously, that Jackson was down to a top two of Michigan State and Arizona. But Jackson says that isn't true.
"It's Michigan State, Arizona, Kansas, UNLV and Maryland," Jackson told Matt Wenzel of MLive.com.

I would not read too much into it. JJ stands to gain nothing by cutting down his list. The smart move is to play it close to the vest and he and his mom seem to recognize that.

Alkins is in the same situation as Tarc was -- 5th year players aren't invite to McD game.

Huh. Didn't know that. But to be fair the first I'd ever heard of the rule was when it got applied to Tarc.

Shakur was went to Friends HS in Philly, and was the number 2 ranked PG after Chris Paul.
But looking it up, Rivals has them at 3 and 4.

Shakur was originally a member of the previous class and was a 100-120ish type recruit who I am pretty sure had verbally committed to one of the local schools (Temple, I think?).
He re-classified to the following year, his recruitment opened, and the rest is history. (That 2003 class was considered weak at the PG spot)
http://www.scout.com/college/north-caro ... afa-shakur" target="_blank
Pore through the attached link:
"7/05/01- Shakur is going to repeat his junior year at Friends Central next year. Lightning quick with great change of direction and a devestating cross-over dribble. Has no problem getting by the first defender and penetrating the lane. Good size. Not a consistent jump shooter. He's still maturing, and his decision making at the point needs refinement. He commits too many turnovers and tends to play too fast. St. Josephs has already offered, but he is getting interest from all of the other Philly schools along with Providence, Siena, Florida St. and Western Kentucky"
"5/11/02- Reclassified as a 2003 prospect."

If JJ is a sure fire one and done, what difference does it make academically? I mean really, most freshman courses are foundational. I could see a major being an important factor during college selection if this player was looking at earning a degree. And maybe he will after he's gone on to pro ball. He'll have plenty of doors open for him for communication regardless of the school.
