Not impressed at all with Hurley.
He didn't quit, but he didn't set a good example. After the number of perfectly coached and executed plays which should have been turnovers were miscalled by the referees, he basically focused on calling out the referees because no matter what he would have drawn up, they weren't going to let them win. HIs frustration was warranted - from an objective viewer - but probably not a good look on national television. By the way, was that your first national broadcast?

Not a bad analogy, but it’s lame when people stretch things beyond recognition to make their point. Beating #9 Iowa is not even one of the Top 15 all-time victories by an Arizona football team. And then spending the entire article trying to match up every other so-called similarity before briefly touching on the main relevant similarity: both coaches losing all semblance of control on the sidelines to the detriment of their ability to actually coach their teams.

Go back and look at the tape. Tubelis was a foot or more off the ground when he blocked Martin's shot. His feet were not firmly on the ground inside the restricted area as Hurley stated. That only matters when considering to charge the offensive player with a charging foul or not anyway. Unless he is talking about a different play.

Correct?

What am I missing?

The flopping Bobbies got all the calls last night. Shot 12 more free throws and I swear, ASu was in the bonus after 30 seconds in the 2nd half, and the double bonus after only 1 minute. Certainly felt that way. The referees were typical PAC, meaning awful, but they did the right thing, tie game, by not bailing Martin out on a wild drive, trying to shoot over a guy several inches taller. Let the players decide the game, which is what happened.

Asu certainly got the majority of the calls last night with a couple of them being just bad calls. Pretty pleasing to see Hurley cry about it :D

Probably frustrated that he lost again to UofA and that their so called big season is literally crumbling before our eyes

Should have held for the last shot, instead of flopping trying to draw a foul. Even if he made, UA could have gone down and scored.

Look, I'm biased, but Tubelis was relatively stationary and Martin went into his chest, flailed and tossed something up without Tubelis causing much contact.

Part of it for me is I hate watching James Harden basketball where the goal isn't to try and score, but just ram the defender and hope for a block. But that's a fine no call in my book. Refs really shouldn't decide the game on a weak ass foul, and that at most is a weak ass foul.

At what point does a coach need to be fined for calling out the refs like Hurley did? Point being - If that was miller making those comments, he would already been fined $50k.

Where's the commissioner.... :o just saying.

Oh.... The best part of his crying comments - Bobby, just because you played well enough for a win, does not mean you get it. You must earn it. ASU played for the foul at the end, worst case to go into overtime. Hurley never thought we would of had a chance at the end because the refs had already been paid off.

I referee HS Varsity Basketball-- which makes my opinion simply my opinion. But I would be embarrassed as hell to call a foul on that play. Tubelis is entitled to his verticality. What the hell was Tubelis supposed to do? He went straight up, blocked the ball initially and then when Martin flailed his arms, made contact with his arm. Where is the foul? If you go through ball to get arm -- it's a block. If you go through arm to get ball, it's a foul. Martin initiated 100% of the contact on that play. If you think this is a defensive foul, then there's is no scenario in basketball where the offense can't attack the basket, crash into a stationary defender and get rewarded with free throws.

At least last year Josh Green was attacking the basket and the ASU defender bodied him first, straight up but still initiated the contact. And still no call. Ok, fine. So now ASU is bitching about that call? Give me a break.

The bolded is the sad part about the Pac and Hurley. I think they are used to thinking this is a defensive foul.

The natural basketball play is for Martin to go up on the left side of the rim with his left hand. He jumps across the front of the rim to his right into Tubelis's chest. I agree there is nothing Tubelis can or should have to do. Is he supposed to run away off the court?

This still image doesn't tell the whole story. Did Tubelis get the ball first before he hit Martin's arm? If yes, then as stated, it's a clean block, no foul. The picture also doesn't show if Remy was going straight up or flailing in an attempt to initiate contact. If you watch the video, you see Tubelis did get ball first, and Remy was flailing, looking more to draw the foul than to actually make a basket. During the first 38 minutes or so, if a ref calls a foul on Tubelis, it's a questionable call at best. Last two minutes of a close game, to call this foul and potentially give ASu the win, and that's the referees having too much influence on the game.

If we can manage to beat ASU again on Monday and Washington can pull out a win against Utah at home on Sunday - ASU will be at the bottom of the Pac 12 rankings once again.

You can see from that angle Martin also makes Tubelis's arm come down by jumping into his side. You see Tubelis's left arm and leg both kick out when Martin jumps into him.

If he would have been a good shooter and confident player, he should have pulled up short of tubelis and gone for the 5 foot jumper, akinjo was behind him, or he could have passed it inside, gotten open and then popped a long three, he went in there to get fouled and flopped around when it didn't happen.

Must be those checks to the refs from Larry scott to beat on sean miller and his team are drying up, hes only made 50 mil.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

The truth is we would all be complaining if that was an Arizona player at the end of the game. What people forget is ASU would not have had the ball except for a tight call against Arizona on a screen. Ariz St. should take responsibility for the fact that their player's mimic their coach and whine instead of sprinting back to leave Tubs unguarded. Bobbi this aint Duke. Not all calls are going your way.
