Re: 2021 Season Thread
Great pitching performance today. Good showing from the pitching staff these past two weeks
I said what I said and I mean it.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
Congratulations, Coach!
Re: 2021 Season Thread
Arkansas talked some crap about us. Even last night they were throwing shade, saying it wasn’t us, they just played bad. Soooooooooooooooooo freaking happy to get the sweep.
And I’m so damn happy for the seniors!!

Re: 2021 Season Thread
Wouldn’t Lowe or Iveson be the choices to replace Candrea?
Re: 2021 Season Thread
If Coach Candrea chooses to retire, presumably he has a good idea who would be most qualified to take the program over, whether that be Caitlin Lowe, Kristie Fox, or someone else. Hopefully our bullheaded President would listen.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
Probably the U of A president knows a former bat boy with a relative that had heart surgery that needs a job. He’s not listening to anyone but his own ego.

Oh shit....
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

On Seeding, The SEC, Etc.
First off, congratulations to the gals! Great to sweep a Super Regional on an SEC field on an ESPN channel.
That said, here's pretty close to a tirade from Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso on the "disgrace" and lack of transparency of the seeding:
https://www.si.com/college/oklahoma/oth ... for-change
I appreciate her comments, considering she was in an unusually good position to make them, and I respect her guts for being outspoken about this against the NCAA establishment.
This is not unusual for either baseball or softball. The SEC has completely hijacked the process, and they're absolutely shameless about getting every possible advantage for their league. The ACC is their accomplice in baseball, but they're not good enough in softball for that effect. But, in both baseball and softball, the Pac-12 and BigXII almost always have a slew of strong teams that "surprise" in the NCAA tournaments, but which have an uphill battle on the road due to the seeding, while the SEC sits at home with big crowds and local or regional umps who don't want to upset the apple cart.
The full seeding list is here:
1. Oklahoma
2. UCLA
3. Alabama
4. Florida (Out)
5. Oklahoma
6. Arkansas (Out)
7. LSU (Out)
8. Missouri
9. Tennessee (Out)
10. Florida St
11. Arizona
12. Texas
13. Duke (Out)
14. Kentucky (Out)
15. ASU (Out)
16. Washington (Out)
So, that was 7 of the top 16, and 5 of the top 9 for the SEC. It's hard to overcome home field in a Super Regional, so getting the top 8 seeds correct is of immense importance.
Looking forward, I believe they re-seed for OKC. So I'll assume UCLA wins tonight, and Missouri and Oklahoma St win at home tomorrow. I'll further assume they powers-that-be will adamantly insist that they were right, so everybody just moves up over the eliminated teams. That would put us seeded at 7 and Georgia at 8.

Re: 2021 Season Thread
Speaking of the SEC, JMU just pasted Missouri to punch their ticket to the WCWS.
That means out of the 12 SEC teams that were selected for the Tourney only 2 are left - Alabama and Georgia. And those 2 teams made it by beating 2 other SEC teams.
In contrast, 2 Pac 12 teams - Arizona and UCLA- made it out of 6 Pac teams selected.

Re: 2021 Season Thread
So, if we can manage to knock out Alabama, we will have taken down 3 SEC teams on our own. I think that would give us a share of the SEC championship.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 11:39 am Speaking of the SEC, JMU just pasted Missouri to punch their ticket to the WCWS.

They just flashed some game times for next week on ESPN - it said the Arizona-Alabama game is at 7 pm ET.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
I’m watching the Texas OSU game, and the announcers casually were discussing Montana Fouts (Bama pitcher) going against Oklahoma. It was a super casual mention, but hopefully we can remind them that Alabama has to get past us and the rest of our side of the bracket to actually face Oklahoma.

Re: 2021 Season Thread
That was a great rant by the Oklahoma coach and UDub did get a very poor draw. 45-12 and they have to go to #1. They should have been matched against Florida as the 13 at worst.
I do think we beat Bama but UCLA is a load. Hoping we win this thing for Coach C

I think we pitch Bowen right?
Alabama is not a home run hitting team like Arkansas so she can attack up in the zone I would think.

Re: 2021 Season Thread
My advice to the team today:
Re: 2021 Season Thread
They just announced that UCLA’s Meghan Faraimo didn’t travel with the team due to an injury to her hand. I love watching Rachel Garcia pitch (when they’re not playing us) but losing Faraimo is pretty huge for them. She’s been awesome when Garcia was off.

Re: 2021 Season Thread
That’s odd.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
Game one is in the 7th and James Madison is giving Oklahoma all they can handle. Game tied at 3-3.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
Home run by JMU in top of 8th to take a one run lead. Wow!

And 1 of the 2 SEC teams (Georgia) is already in the losers bracket.
Let's take care of the other one.

Should have just earholed Tow
Re: 2021 Season Thread
Good job getting out of that with only one run though.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
Nice to just give up 1 there.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
I hate errors. Looking at Fouts' stats, she is hittable.

Re: 2021 Season Thread
Did UCLA get that many championships vacated that 8 titles is the NCAA record in softball? That blurb was confusing
Re: 2021 Season Thread
They are really playing up that Coach Candrea is going to retire. And apparently Jennie Finch’s presence in the stands is a sign of that.
Re: 2021 Season Thread
UCLA had their ‘95 title that they stole from us vacated. Just that one where they blatantly cheated by hiring a pitcher from Australia. I’m not still bitter.
