Re: Duke
K only made the elite 8 and barely beat ucf with Zion, RJ, and Cam, so......
Maybe he wasn't that great a coach, hell, Sean Miller has a winning record against him.
They just get all the ESPN buzz.

Meh. Probably one or two game suspension for Banchero. If this had happened a week before March Madness, would be a much bigger deal.

I wonder if he jumped in the back seat and Savarino slid over.
According to citations obtained from the Orange County District Court by the News & Observer, Savarino was driving a white 2017 Jeep SUV registered to Banchero, who was a passenger in the back seat.

I’m guessing Duke leapfrogs Purdue and is #1 on Monday.

Re: Duke
Watching Duke play OSU I am not impressed. I have this game in the background while watching Warriors vs Suns. They are overhyped and will have problems matching up well with quick teams and big front courts. They are definitely beatable. I don't see them winning the national championship. I see this year as wide open, even though it isn't seen now. ACC is weak this year in comparison to other seasons. I expect Duke to get a favorable draw in selection Sunday. It wouldn't bother me if the Cats have to play them again in the sweet 16. They are good but overhyped. They are vulnerable.

Re: Duke
Not surprised to see Duke go down.
Sorta thought their win over Gonzaga had a little to do with the Zags being pretty wiped out from a brutal week, schedule-wise. Even then, the Zags only narrowly lost. I like Gonzaga's potential to reach the FF more than Duke's.
Purdue is for real, imo. Painter is a great coach, and they've got a really good roster.

As for Duke, they do have arguably the most dangerous player in the country in Banchero. That guy’s a baller, and I could see him single-handedly carrying them into the S16. Reminds me of Carmelo a little.

This sounds loaded with unseemly details of K's time at Duke. I doubt it really changes his public perception, but it'll definitely leave a few stains.

Re: Duke
NY Post with a redux of the ESPN writeup from two weeks ago, but still, it's not just "in house" drama no more:
"Harvard coach and former Duke player Tommy Amaker was the university’s first choice to take the reins of the program. However, according to O’Connor, Krzyzewski reached out to Amaker and asked him not to take the job. The Zoom call left Amaker “heartbroken,” a source close to him told O’Connor. The book says that Krzyzewski believed he would have more control of the program with Scheyer at the helm."

Re: Duke
Totally. Compare his behavior to what we saw with Lute. Once Lute was truly retired, he kept out of things. To my knowledge, he was not involved in the decision to hire Miller, like at all. And he kept a healthy distance between himself and the program, even while he continued to attend games and show support. I think it went the same way with Wooden.
Coach K is a cranky control freak, and it's not gonna go well for him if he actually tries to continue influencing the program.

I remember after watching the team practice, Lute said that the best player on the team is not even playing, he sitting out as a transfer redshirt. Lute actually does know more about basketball than most of us.
