1 Shane down
Not anymore.
His choice or CTL's choice?
We need more than just Tyty at guard now IMO. We have Kriisa, then it's just big wings like Mathurin, Terry and Nowell. I'd feel better with another smaller guard because one injury and we're basically having to play Tyty or Kriisa 40.RondaeShimmy wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:14 pm I'm guessing Nowell most likely staying since he's a Seattle guy and Terry is staying.
Tyty Washington and Arthur Kaluma still out there.
CTL
Nowell and Mathurin are pretty much natural 2 guards lol, but I agree we should add one more guard.Spaceman Spiff wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:23 pmWe need more than just Tyty at guard now IMO. Agree, we definitely need to add at least 1 PG and 1 Combo guard to the mix. Ideally Kerr is coming off the bench with us adding two new guys (Tyty and Transfer) that can start. Or a 3 so we can slide Ben over to the 2.Spaceman Spiff wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:23 pmWe need more than just Tyty at guard now IMO. I mean more in the sense that we need someone who could at least handle the 1 in a pinch. I agree Nowell, Terry and Mathurin could all handle wing perimeter duties at either the 2 or 3, but I can't see any as a viable 1.ChooChooCat wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:26 pmNowell and Mathurin are pretty much natural 2 guards lol, but I agree we should add one more guard.Spaceman Spiff wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:23 pmWe need more than just Tyty at guard now IMO. This thread is just about recruiting for the upcoming season. No real need to merge it.mofo wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:29 pm Any chance we can merge this thread with the 21-22 Season thread?
He's going to be 26 in December. BYU should recruit him.YoDeFoe wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:54 pm I mean, I laughed it off this morning but... Aaron Cook, come on down?

Quality two-way senior guard... just not much of a ball handler and a little short at 6'1" to play the two (though he has good strength). I really only like him for depth (10min/g) for us but given that we're now down what, four ball handlers heading into the season? Could use the depth.
I'm not sold on his ability to handle or defend the 1. Dalen isn't super quick for a 3, let alone a 1, and his handle...I think it works better in HS.RondaeShimmy wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:48 pm Dalen Terry averaged 11 APG in HS and played PG, not ideal but he could do it in a foul trouble or rolled ankle situation.
(SUPER) SENIOR LEADERSHIP - but for real, we have one player over the age of 21 on the roster and only one (Ballo) who has worked with Lloyd before. Could be useful to have an older guy who knows how Lloyd runs a practice on board.Irish27 wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:59 pmHe's going to be 26 in December. He's better than a lot of other options. He's not as talented as Tyty, but you don't have to live with freshman OAD issues.YoDeFoe wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:54 pm I mean, I laughed it off this morning but... Aaron Cook, come on down?

The PG position begins and ends with Tyty. He intends to make a decision fairly soon, you don't go to plan B until you know the status of Plan A.IndianaZonaFan wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 6:01 am Alterique Gilbert (UConn & Wichita St) is in the portal. He an option?

I mean supposedly this week or next, but your guess is as good as mine.
Edited it for you.Carcassdragger wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 10:49 am Checking here daily to see if he's committed. Come on Tyty. There is no greater place in the world to go for your education, play basketball, and be an alumnus than the U of A. Oh, and disregard our douche President and AD please.
I'd say Akinjo and Baker, who we're all forgetting was the most impactful player on the team before he went down with the wrist injury. Personally never trusted Simpson to provide day 1 PG duties and he hardly felt like he'd be adequate PG depth in his freshman season.gronk4heisman wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 2:31 pm KJ Simpson committed to Tad Boyle and the Buffs. Glad he found another Pac 12 opportunity, wish he would have stayed. Him and Akinjo (obviously) are the two we could miss the most if we don't fill up that back court.
Let's also not forget that he's playing in the Iverson Classic on May 8th, and Showtime is in charge of creating content and making a short documentary about the event. This is the ONLY all-star game being played this year, with the McDonald's and Jordan Brand games cancelled.
That would suck"Things are very quiet concerning Washington’s recruitment. One thought is that perhaps the NBA G League is making a run at him."
Regardless, you don't really know what you're going to get in a top-rated freshman point guard. At the expense of immediate hopes for a team, I like what developing point guards bring to a program. And I say that with an eye toward today's game, not the past.gronk4heisman wrote: Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:34 pm If we miss out on Tyty and decide to go with a project like Pelle or a career college role player like Aaron Cook to run the point then my projections for the season go way down and we are looking more like a bubble team.
I agree, and we have room for both a top rated freshman and a PG to develop.Longhorned wrote: Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:53 pmRegardless, you don't really know what you're going to get in a top-rated freshman point guard. I think I mean to say something different than that. I'm referring to a certain level of point guard won't transfer here to develop in practice while TyTy runs the floor during games. In that sense, you really can't have both, and I'd rather develop what I call a real college point guard than give the keys to an NBA-bound one-and-done point guard (Suggs aside) who jets after a season of getting outplayed by real college point guards. While I'm an ignorant fan wasting words on a message board while CTL has things under control, this is the hill I'll die on as an ignorant message board poster. It's all I talk about. Even to the door when I'm on the toilet.gronk4heisman wrote: Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:55 pmI agree, and we have room for both a top rated freshman and a PG to develop.Longhorned wrote: Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:53 pmRegardless, you don't really know what you're going to get in a top-rated freshman point guard. No question. Could see dudes on teams with a ton of guards look around and see a team with Mathurin and Tubelis and see a spot they can start in and play with elite talent and get guaranteed playing time. If we miss on Tyty, there are options available and more will come availableChicat wrote: Thu Apr 29, 2021 1:05 pm If we miss out on TyTy there may be some PGs who are not yet in the transfer portal looking for playing time or more exposure.
I'm 39 and was only practice fodder at a midmajor in my prime. So I'm flattered, but don't get your hopes up.Longhorned wrote: Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:28 pm Honestly, TyTy to the G League is my hope. There are the Suggs'es and Bibby's of the world, but on the other hand, there are all those goin' pro point guards who are great only in an abstract way that's imperceptible to viewers and unimpactful in terms of results on the floor.
My general preference would be for a proven transfer, like maybe that Calvin cartoon guy from Utah.
