Ah yes, the game they claim was an "away" game due to the Notre Dame crowd and the all around favoritism.

I think that if ASU had beaten Oregon St. and the next two that they would likely lose to Oregon in the championship game. Further, as bad as the loss to Oregon St. was, it will be a motivating factor going forward. Not just for this season but next season also.
Perhaps enough so that after dominating wins against Wazzu and UofA, and if UCLA loses one of their remaining games, that the Devils would defeat Oregon for the Pac12 championship.
It was great having the attention of being named #6 in the country, but truthfuly it was too high for this years team. [b
]Next year there is potential for a National Championship. [/b]If if they had gotten into the playoffs, this years Devils were never going to beat the top teams.

Some are wearing "Moustache Nation" shirts. Sounds like it's either a pedo thing or they are raising money for cancer research by looking like sketchy pedos. I'd admire the dedication if it didn't weird me out so much.
These aren't the same guys that got the toddler drunk, are they? Might explain a few things.

I knew that was coming.
However, my jorts are officially retired. Now that I need reading glasses, I always wear cargo shorts now. 4 front pockets for wallet, keys, cell phone, reading glasses.
Since I sit at a desk all day, the wallet moved to the front. Don't sit on your wallet:

Know still a week plus out for the Territorial Cup. But wondering what others feel about the "what ifs" for this game.
By many Accounts, Arizona will end up with a good+ season. Can say at least they will have a winning conference record. I heard a national media writer claim that Rich Rod had viewed this season to still be a "rebuilding" year. Not sure what that means or if that was told to him or just downplaying expectations.
It's the expectations I'm getting at. Not sure if fans feel different if Arizona beats Utah and heads into ASSu game 9-2, highly ranked with still a long-shot at the South or Arizona loses to Utah and heads into game 8-3 maybe just to be the spoiler.
9-2 / 8-3 and "what if" Arizona loses to ASSu and ends regular season 9-3 or 8-4?
What are the fan expectations for losing to ASSu for 3rd straight year? Does it lessen the "pain" if already at 9 wins or increase the pain because Arizona was "that" close.
I think it's a problem regardless of record losing to ASSu 3 straight years. Not a hot seat problem but a fan problem to have to carry around and a perception problem within state for some recruiting momentum.
Personally, I just get the vibe that Territorial Cup isn't played up enough in importance by staff. I'm sure they know it's important and want to beat ASSu more then me. But it seems that it gets downplayed (guessing on purpose) during the year on significance or somewhat muted. Maybe that's the "correct" thing to do. Not sure. I'm not a coach.
IF Arizona loses, I'm not sure what Staff/Admin can do. Game is won/lost on the field (and stadium fan support).
Does/should the staff / Admin just ignore it and just move on to the bowl game and rah-rah a great year? Do they put more emphasis on it because they are concerned how fans are turning sour to losing to them Again?
Again, not hot seat issue for me. RR doing rare stuff here. But losing a 3rd straight would make the elephant in the room get bigger. Does it get addressed in any way or not (PR)?
Having written this. Lets just BEAT the Hell out of them... SOLUTION

RichRod last year after the game sounded like a very, very defeated man. His post game interview was short, he spoke very quietly and in a voice that was unfiltered disappointment. We've seen in the past that he doesn't forget these things (ask Oregon). But as much as we - and he- want to beat ASU, they've got a lot of games to play in the meantime. They've won eight of them so far. The players know how much this game is going to mean. There still may be a lot at stake. I think the guys are going to come out with a serious chip on their shoulder for this game.

We have some seniors on this team that deserve each and every other player giving it their absolute all to send them out winners of the Cup and not three-time losers. Guys like Tevis, Bondurant, Hill, Baucus, Grandon, and so on. When I think of the true heart and soul of this team, it's the seniors. It's a guy like Tevis, a former walk-on, hometown Tucson kid. You can't let a guy like that lose to ASU this year. Because you know he'll be out there scratching and clawing and fighting his heart out to win.
If the coaches and the other players don't feel the same, then there's a problem with this team. I don't think there is that problem though. I know how much these kids mean to RichRod and the other coaches. They know how much this game means.

Although I hate the term, I think this game against the scum is a "must win" for RR and staff. Losing a 3rd in a row to them would be devastating, even if we do finish 9-3. I think that RR knows this and will have the guys ready. We obviously got our asses handed to us last year in tempe, but 2 years ago we gave the game away in Tucson. I don't see how we let this happen again in front of the home crowd. I have had the opportunity to talk to RR on 2 different occasions in somewhat "relaxed" conversations and I fully believe that he knows how important this rivalry is to our University and our fans. he is never going to overstate it publically, but it is impossible to ignore. The hatred is there.
That aside, I think we will be ready to play. There is still a ton at stake this year, and as mentioned above, our Senior Class deserves it.

After Cal and the Hill Mary. After the late fumble against UDUB. After going on the road and beating Oregon and Utah when no one thought we would win, maybe we shouldn't doubt any longer. I know I have my reservations about RR in a rivalry game but F it, I believe

A win over the ASSTards is so huge it’s almost unquantifiable.
Rich Rod getting the TG 0-2 monkey off his back, moving to 10-2 and the best record in almost 20 years and playing for a major, major bowl game is about as big as it gets.
All we as fans can ask for is to be in contention for the prize at the end of the year, and at this point in time we are.
TG got his Christmas winning gift the first go around, now its Rich Rods turn.
It will be a high scoring game to be sure.

1986 was pretty big, enabled the Cats to get to 9 wins, cost ASU a shot at a national championship (would have been 11-0-1), and gave us the greatest play in UA history. Both teams ended up in the top 11.

I was thinking more in terms of playing for a conference championship or in y h is case a divisional championship.
As it was we came into that 86 game with 8 wins and ASSU had already clinched roses. Still, you are correct in that it was one of the best and biggest in the cups history

Anu will be ready to go. He's been in a boot for the last 3 or 4 weeks after each and every game and spends the week in one up until game day. Purely speculation on my part but, I think RR pulled Anu so he will be ready for the Assu game. RR felt that we could win this game as Utah wasn't stopping us on the ground and we were playing well on D.
Anu was fine until he got tackled on the sideline and RR was pissed that he didn't throw the ball out of bounds and avoid the tackle. He continued to play but it probably tightened up at the half and really no reason to run him out there for the 2nd half.
Also think it was important that Scroggins got some burn today. He will get a lot of reps this week and he will be ready to go if called upon.

@CST: yesss!!
The front-end of those highlights (pre-Desert Swarm era) were during the Revenge of the Nerds years, too, and I'm laughing maniacally and imagining the wild postgame victory celebrations that may or may not have actually happened. Ah, the 80s.
Someone needs to get that YouTube vid up on the stadium screen on loop this week. Haha.
Anyway.
I don't really pay attention to Asu, but how's their team doing health-wise? A bunch of our guys are pretty banged up - not just Anu - which is a little worrisome. Hope to see them leave it all on the field Saturday, regardless of Furd-UCLA. Go Cats.
