This definitely changes how he will be viewed.

Getting closer to the derby. Watched the 3 graded stakes races yesterday. Epicenter will be ML favorite but sure seems like this is going to be a wide open field for sure.

Nope because he wasn’t even in the damn field until yesterday.
Biggest upset in Derby history but the jockey, who never even raced in a Derby, was a tactical genius.

He was way back coming out of the turn. Shot out of a cannon.

Yes, but the jockey put him in open space at the rail, got some momentum and deftly slipped into that open slot and tracked down 2 of the favorites.
But the opportunity wouldn’t have been there if the pace wasn’t so incredibly fast. The favorites shot their load early.
Also, did you notice Rich Strike turned his head to look at the leaders down the stretch? It was almost like he was saying “hey pedigree assholes, watch this claimer steal the show.”
He was also a bit frisky with his pony horse afterwards.

So Mage wins in an upset and the jockey, Castilian who is a hall of gamer, gets his first derby win

I stopped going to the races with my in-laws because I was tired of watching horses get killed.

Loved Secretariat. Didn’t know squat about horse racing but like many others, I was consumed by this horse and what he was doing.
To still own all three track records, i don’t know how he isn’t the greatest race horse of all time. He ran every 1/4 faster than the previous one. Just an amazing horse
