Robbins thinks outside the box by hiring the less qualified white guy. Or in Sumlin's case, the less qualified non-white guy.Merkin wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:09 pm I was the DEI facilitator for a while for my department. It was never hire a less qualified person of color over a white man, it was always to make sure that women and POC get in to be interviewed, and that the questions are fair.
My thoughts of Sumlin were never that positive at the time. My impression was formed when Texas A&M led UCLA by 34 points in the second half and lost to Jim Mora. I never could get excited about him being or coach after that.Spaceman Spiff wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:19 pmRobbins thinks outside the box by hiring the less qualified white guy. The important point is that we're not focusing on things like results, winning and a proven track record.
I always thought this of Sumlin. He got fired at aTm for underperforming with very good talent. I thought he wouldn't be able to recruit that same kind of talent, and would likely continue underperforming, just with less talent.TheCat wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:49 pmMy thoughts of Sumlin were never that positive at the time.
