Pueyo has great court vision.

Re: 2022-2023 Season
They win by 30 or so. It seems every game someone new gets a career high. they looked more like themselves on the defensive end. Lots of firepower on this team. We have played mainly creampuffs but it will start to get harder. We needed this time for players to understand each other. Pueyo has great vision as previously mentioned, plays under control and got a career high tonight. She is impressive.
Re: 2022-2023 Season
The Pit continues to be a tough place to play, but we're leading at half.

Not a good start to the 2nd half

Taking care of business. Won 77-60

Defense is looking better and is forcing the turnovers we are use to seeing.

34-Point Win, But...
Back in the win column, and a decent crowd. The game is part of a series between the Pac-12 and HBCU schools. Texas Southern was out-gunned on the front line, which showed in a 45-30 rebounding edge for Arizona. We were able to force it inside, but despite the 89 points against an overwhelmed opponent, they still look out of sync on offense. After going 2-2 in the first quarter, we shot 2-10 the rest of the game from 3-point range. And we had 20 turnovers. So, those are the things that'll keep Adia up at night while preparing for the ESPN2 game against Baylor in Dallas on Sunday afternoon. I guess they'll stick around in Dallas after that and play Texas-Arlington Wednesday afternoon. And then the fun begins, when they play at ASU on the 29th, and it's nothing but the Pac-12 the rest of the regular season. There's some work to do in the laboratory.

Anybody watching this UA vs. Baylor game? We’ve got another very good team this year.

It’s funny how the men and the women had to have one of those, WTF? klunkers, but each came out better on the other side. May they both have learned from it and keep moving forward.
Re: 2022-2023 Season
The best part was looking good for an actual national TV appearance. The women don't get very many chances to impress the country.

That Was Impressive...
...and I didn't see that one coming, either. Unbelievable swing between the Kansas game and this one.
Re: 2022-2023 Season
That game looked much more like Ariz defense. Also some of the newbies did not get the time that had been given before. I love the new freshman especially Kailyn Gilbert but she does not share the ball enough. She is dynamic but needs to play more in the team concept. All the freshman need to work on Defense to get real time this year.

Re: 2022-2023 Season
I listened on the radio and the Cats controlled the game pretty early on. Going on the road right before Christmas made me nervous, but Adia made sure they were ready to go.
Now to get ready for the scummies like the men will soon be doing.

ASU Scout
New ASU coach Natasha Adair (from Delaware) has complained that she hasn't been able to field her full team, due to various nagging illness and injuries. But, she's had the same starting five for 10 of ASU's 11 games. And, I'm sure Adia Barnes would like to have Lauren Ware...but such is life. ASU is 7-4, with their best win probably an overtime win at New Mexico (a common opponent and locale, where we won by 17.) They lost in a tournament to #5 Notre Dame, at home to unranked UMass and Missouri, and a close road loss at Stephen F. Austin. Despite that, counting "votes", they're #35 in the coaches poll, so CNA must have a lot of friends in coaching.

Re: 2022-2023 Season
Well, if Adia says Tyi Skinner is the second coming of Aari McDonald, it should be an interesting match-up with (I assume) Shaina Pellington. Maybe trade-off and put Pueyo on Skinner some of the time, partly to keep Shaina out of foul trouble. Otherwise, hopefully we can get our bigs and Jade Loville going.

Re: 2022-2023 Season
After being subjected to Natasha Adair's long "gosh, how swell" interview/commercial, and former coach CTT in the SF studio with a fairly blatantly slanted ASU preview show, it's nice to see the blowout. More importantly, with the imminent Bay Area road swing, it's nice for our gals not to have to over-extend in this one.
And a sidebar: someone with a last name of Hunt actually named their child Treasure. (Could have been worse. If her dad was Lloyd Bridges, she could have been named Sea. On the other hand, Fox would be kind of cool.)

Re: 2022-2023 Season
Great job (and great crowd at 9K.) Didn't shut Skinner down, but she got more than half her points on 5 3-point bombs and had 0 assists.
I certainly would never subject myself to listening to her every word, but on the pre-game, (the very unbiased) CTT said that if Jade Loville had been at ASU for more than one season, she would have transferred to someplace other than Arizona. Why? Because she's weak-minded? Because ASU has a brain-washing process that wears you down? Look, I don't care if somebody wants to go to ASU. If such a type prefers easier classes, a generic hardscape campus, trashier people, The Cheating Culture (a good book), and specialty field hiring managers who keep the school on their confidential blacklists, have at it. With all the people they process, they're bound to have some percentage succeed, and some certainly do. But the biggest reason ASU people hate UArizona is because some of us can see past all the cherry-picked data and pricey public relations B.S. which they spend the public's tax dollars on and can speak the truth about them. Meanwhile, they staunchly refuse to acknowledge The University of Arizona's many common-knowledge accomplishments.
Win Saturday and Death to Ming!

Re: 2022-2023 Season
Not well-played...or well-officiated. For some reason, we couldn't seem to keep track of Cal's leading scorer, Jayda Curry. She brought them back from a 16-point deficit in the second half on long-bombs. And the refs were horrible. Cal was climbing over our backs on rebounds and bumping and grabbing, while we were tagged with phantom fouls, which also helped bring them back with cheap free throws. (Martinez fouled out in the fourth quarter with the game in serious doubt.) We had a player standing stock-still outside the no-charge semi-circle, and a Cal player drove right through her to take a shot. Foul Arizona. Meanwhile, we got charged for offensive fouls right and left at the other end of the floor and trivial defensive touch fouls. Absolutely ridiculous. Cate Reese kept us in it, and Lauren Fields hit an absolute prayer at a shot clock buzzer with less than a minute left which pretty much put it out of reach, but it wasn't pretty.
Some weekend person at the Star (Tempe alum, I'd wager) somehow managed to put the story of ASU losing at Stanford into the paper without bothering to mention the embarrassing score: 69-101. It's never fun to play in Palo Alto, but holding them under a hundred and losing by less than 32 is the lowest rung on the competitive ladder. You pretty much need to hold them under 80 to have a chance. It would be a monumental achievement to win at #2, which has thus far only lost (in OT) to #1 South Carolina. I can't really see this year's team doing it, but it will be an interesting yardstick of progress this season.

Re: 2022-2023 Season
A very poorly played half by Arizona, poor shooting, poor rebounding, 1 assist to 7 turnovers. Not going to win many games playing like that.
Re: 2022-2023 Season
Stanford continues to just be on another level than us. The short turn around didn't help either.

Re: 2022-2023 Season
Yeah, she knows that. Stanford kind of tip-toes around and stays out of foul trouble, which Pac-12 refs obviously love, as it makes their job so much easier. They don't seem to like much physical contact. They just like to use their length to rebound, block and harass shots, and shoot over the top of defenders. From an entertainment standpoint, I prefer a more athletic run-oriented approach, like when Arizona plays UCLA. But, you can't argue with success. They just keep it simple and exploit their talent differential, which works great within the Pac-12. So we kept them under 80 with a final margin of 16. That was the toughest game on our schedule, so time to move forward from it.
