Holy hell Chi, I am so sorry to read all of this. I know you're are going to land a great position and then kill your competition, but this is just terrible the hear, especially to their top performer. Rightfully so, your former coworkers need to be worried. What a dick Busch league move.

Don't often visit this thread, and missed this, but that really sucks.

But $40M looks really good on a resume.

It seems to me that bosses are pretty oblivious to the truth.
I changed jobs for a while about every 7 years or so.
I have worked for myself since about 2003 and, even though my boss is a dick, I wouldn't go back unless I wanted to just slide til retirement.

My previous director informs me that he's continuing to assign me responsibilities in my new unit without with consulting me, and my new director informs me that he's indeed deferring such decisions about my work in my new unit to my previous director. How does this even work? Maybe I'll find out as part of the grievance I guess I have to file against my new director. I'd guess that the committee who reviews the grievance will have never heard of such a ridiculous situation.

They have to be friends or at least professional colleagues.

Someone (old director?) is pulling rank or they both sit on some national committee somewhere and funding is involved at some level, is my best guess.

I am so sorry LB, this situation sucks.

This is one example in my belief that academic is more cutthroat than any business environment. It was sad for me to realize, because at one point I would've loved to be a professor, but that was before I understood it wasn't as egalitarian as I once perceived.

The wife enrolled our daughter in tap dancing today and daughter is soooooooo proud of her new shoes.

We have tile and hardwood.

Take it from someone who has a daughter that has been tap dancing competitively for 10 years. Buy yourself a tap board it will save you in the long run if she continues dancing.

That's very nice. I really enjoy working essentially half time and being able to not stress out over my free time and just to do things I want to do and for the family.
