1. Coaching hires are always typically announced during the work week
2. If he's officially hired by U of A prior to his ESPN appearance then he won't get paid by ESPN for his appearance.
3. With all that said I have no idea if he is truly the guy and if he will be announced on Tuesday, but those would be the reasons why we'd wait.

Also on another note Heeke is going to interview numerous guys this weekend at the coaching conference in Charlotte. Even if Sumlin is wrapped up he'd do these interviews for 1. Favors and 2. Have a back up plan set in case things fall between the cracks with Sumlin.

So much shit could be going on right now and I certainly wouldn't take anything this aplayersprogramu.com guy has to say to heart one bit.

If it is Sumlin and if he is officially hired and announced Tuesday then word will come out tomorrow or Monday. Will still get the good press by him being on ESPN on Monday of true.

I know Sumlin and his staff will npbe more expensive. Hope the new ticket sales plus donor involvement helps that.

Sumlin will receive over $10M from A&M. Hopefully he will come in at a discount like RichRod did. Maybe use the extra cash for some elite position coaches.

To expand on Choo’s #1 point, you want to walk the tightrope of announcing during a time when your news won’t be drowned out by other stories but also when people have interest in your sport in a general sense. I’d wait until you start to hear stories about the CFB national champ repeated for a second or third time. So I’d want to run the back channel rumors this weekend and make the official announcement about 18 hours after the championship game so you can be the second story after whatever Bama or Georgia stories are left to report.

If we don’t hear anything by Friday, I would think something went wrong with our top choice and we’re interviewing others and reaching out to a few more. In which case, strap in. It might get a little choppy.

I like Beau Baldwin. Had solid Success at Eastern/Central Washington as the HC. I just don't know how well he recruits.

I was bored this evening so I decided to give a statistical Head-to-Head look at Les Miles vs. Kevin Sumlin

The 6 categories I looked at were:

1) Head to head win/loss record
2) Average Conference Finish (only in the SEC 2012-2016)
3) Lifetime Winning Percentage
4) Avg. National Recruiting Rank (Scout) (only 2012-2016)
5) Avg. Total Defense - National Rank (only 2012-2016)
6) Avg. Total Offense - National Rank (only 2012-2016)

Results:

1) Head/Head Miles 4-0 (Miles was fired in the 4th game of the 2016 season)
2) Avg. Conf. Finish Miles 3.4, Sumlin 4.4
3) Lifetime Winning % Miles 71.9, Sumlin 66.6
4) Avg. National Recruiting Miles 5.6, Sumlin 11.8
5) Avg. Total Defense Miles 5.4, Sumlin 84.2
6) Avg. Total Offense Sumlin 23.5 Miles 62.4

The numbers alone show that Miles wins in 5 out of the 6 categories.
I realize that there are numerous factors that can affect these numbers (assistant coaches, home field advantage, facilities, etc)
but a simple, non-biased look at the numbers would suggest that Sumlin is NOT the slam dunk better coach over Miles. If the UA
were to hire Miles along with a top notch Offensive coordinator..........................................................................

His EWU days and his handling of QBs along with potent offenses and good defenses made a big impression on me. I think he is one of the next good football minds to emerge from the shadows.

Could indicate a plane was sent to SLC to pick up Heeke and take him to LA to meet a candidate, which would explain why so many AD folks were in Boulder but Heeke wasn’t.

Fwiw if we hire Beau Baldwin I would very much like that hire. Sumlin obviously checks all the boxes we should be looking for, but if we can't afford him or we don't have what he's looking for that's fine. If you want somebody to be mad at look no further than Captain Hairplugs running the conference and in turn our financials into the ground. Baldwin is a very good coach, he's young, he's hungry, he's very bright and in the end he could honestly be the best possible hire we could make especially due to the money we initially will save with the hire. Time will tell obviously and Beau wouldn't sell any tickets next season, but in the long run he may be the perfect choice.

He seems like a very good offensive mind and OC. If the AD could swing something smart like hire him as head coach and also to be his own OC (so we don't have to pay a separate one) for like $2M a year, that might leave enough for something like $1.5M for a mad defensive coordinator to go with Beau.

How these things get structured are so important, but if they could pull something like that off...

Well we're going to hire an OC, but it'll just be like how it was with Arizona and Calvin Magee/Rod Smith as Co-OCs. Rich Rod was the real offensive coordinator obviously and it'd be the same with Baldwin.

Maybe picking Baldwin’s former OC that had just accepted the OC job at Utah before heading to Baldwin?

It's not a matter of Baldwin being a decent coach that could do things. It's a matter of who else is out there. If this is the hire, attendance was not the number 1 priority. Not a single person in the demographic we highlighted earlier knows who Beau Baldwin is.
