Yes, I know everyone is paying the top players. I guess I should have said, if Miller admits he was caught on a wiretap discussing payment to a player. Because that is really the only thing, currently, that would cause him to get fired. Currently is the operative word. But you have your reaction, and I have mine. So be it. And I still say that, if he is fired just for what is KNOWN now, I am done with the UofA as long as those two "leaders" are here. And, yes, I am an alum.

So far it's hearsay but people on twitter are saying that a radio outlet stated that ESPN is retracting the story. I'm digging into this to try and find a link

This may have been discussed on the 120 pages of this thread but if Miller is done even if it is a mutual agreement then how do they spin this and make it ok for Ayton to continue playing? I guess I just see any outcome with Miller not coaching as some sort of admission of guilt. Im sure if Miller is done, everyone will be calling for Ayton to be ineligible next.

What's odd is Vitale defends everyone and everything, and Arizona seems to be the exception consistently.

Interesting isn't it.
A few hours before the Arizona story broke on Friday, he was saying to wait for everything to sort itself out, wait for all the facts (to the Yahoo! story that includes Dook among other blue blood -- keep in mind). The Arizona story breaks and he goes in on SM and Arizona. Remember when UofA received a tourney bid in 08 and assu didn't. He went on ESPN crying about it.
I can't stand his old ass anymore.

Depending on what is true, the distinction could be that Miller was recorded referring to players being paid, but not actually discussing deals in detail. This give the appearance that it was happening, even if the FBI does not have enough proof to charge him. If the FBI and NCAA have indicated that Ayton did not get involved in these deals, nothing about the revelations with Miller change that. The University can say that everyone is parting ways because it just looks bad at this point, even with no specific proof, and no admission of guilt. There would need to be specific proof with Ayton to declare him ineligible.

It's been said already, but the sheer number of posts can lead to confusion.
If I understand 97 correctly, if Miller is relieved of his coaching duties prior to the end of the season, it will not be because of the claims in this ESPN story. Rather, it will be that the story has brought renewed attention to the situation that's led, in large part, to the agreement to part ways in the first place. This has caused a reconsideration of the timeline. A timeline that involved Miller and UA amicably parting ways at the end of the season.
I would reserve judgement on Heeke and Robbins because they have access to far more information about the case and possible ramifications than anyone on this board.

I agree with what Gimino said except why can't he do that after the season is over. Coach it out, separate from us and we both go our separate way. Just sucks that this hit job will hurt all of AZ deeply, none more than Miller and that we can't even confront the A-holes and give it back to them in some way on the court

Then let it ride and part ways in April.
And yes it was “this” as “this” is what sent this all in motion. Prior to “this” the university was content to let Miller coach the season and then part ways.
Nothing has categorically changed other then ESPN throwing chum into the water.

Good comment.
A lot of rushing to judgement in the absence of knowledge by people on all sides of this thing. You’d think, even if it hasn't happened to them, people would have seen enough situations where the rush to judgement led to egg on the face . . . and would therefore exhibit some patience before making statements that are hard to back down from.

I completely agree. That is what I want 100%. I guess I am just saying that I hope they dont decide to part ways with Miller today but if they believe there is a close to 50/50 shot or better of more coming out I can understand their position. Fucking sucks huge balls. Fuck ESPN, Fuck the World Wide Leader, Fuck Yahoo for one upping ESPN and making ESPN trigger happy, Fuck it all, oh and FUCK YOU STANFORD, FUCK YOU CAL, FUCK YOU Winner of the 8/9 game, FUCK YOU whoever we play the rest of the way. And just so everyone knows my stance, FUCK YOU LARRY FUCKTARD SCOTT and FUCK YOU NCAA and FUCK YOU ADIDAS.
I know I havent been the biggest Miller fan to date but if he let go today I wanna fight.

There’s been a change of tone in the approach though. No longer referencing he ESPN story for the opinion to fire, but to the fact that Book was actually indicted as the reason.

Um, in that case, a few more coaches than Sean Miller need to go. In addition to pretty much tacitly admitting their story was BS.

The worst part of all of this for me personally has been having to explain this mess to my 9-year-old son. He is a diehard UA basketball fan who can hold his own in a bball conversation with most adults. We make the drive down to Tucson each season for one football game and one basketball game, but the basketball game is his favorite by far. He LOVES UA sports. He reads bball programs at night in bed, memorizing facts and stats about all the players, even the walk-ons. We went to a football game this year and one of the players gave him his gloves. My son slept with them on. Explaining to him that Trier was suspended was not fun. Explaining to him about the Miller/Ayton fiasco sucked. He fought back tears. At the end, he said "Maybe I shouldn't care so much about sports." Honestly, I agree. This stuff is brutal.
