This is the weirdest Friday night ever. Been flipping back and forth between uofa W BBall and Soccer, meanwhile there’s a Pac-12 football game on the same time ASU and Colorado are playing basketball. So weird. Does that game count as a conference game?

*nevermind: I read your other post. Not a conference game. OK can we fire Larry Scott now?

Really great win for Washington. Maybe the Pac 12 won't be seen as a joke this year!

Well that is a game that the PAC 12 has lost literally every time in the last 6-7 years

Oregon is really jacking up shots. They don't look fluid at all right now.

Memphis looks exactly how you'd expect a team of freshmen to look. Oregon looks exactly how you'd expect a bunch of mid level grad transfers to look.

Both teams suck but Oregon should win.

They're talking about us! They like us! They really like us!

But seriously it's nice to hear the recognition on a national broadcast.

Still...Having to listen to Jay Bilas. I used to really like his analysis too. But his "jump the gun" analysis on Arizona hurt us on the national stage.

These teams suck. Oregon looks like every Florida State team from the last 5 years. YDF, is this an aberration? I know you've watched them already this year.

Just wait for our first loss...

Yeah this is Oregon right now. Their flaws match my concerns for them heading into the season and since it's structural I'm not sure that it gets better.

Ton of roster turnover. Pritchard is their best player and only reliable point guard. Their next three best players are all transfers (mid major and JUCO). Their best recruit isn't eligible. Their next best (Walker) is a tweener forward who isn't ready to play PF in college but is forced to with their roster.

They actually looked really good against their previous two opponents but those were sub-100 mid-majors... aka what the transfers are all used to playing. Playing against bigger athletes / better players is going to give this team trouble, at least to start.

There's a lot of question marks and wildcards to this team - for me at least - and I don't see their ceiling as high as others. There's some very nice pieces but not enough for me to think they're top shelf.

My Memphis review is uncharacteristically brief: 2019-20's best AAU team.

Thanks YDF. Just watching this game, I don't see anything to be excited about for Oregon. Definitely not a top 15 team. And frankly after watching this and UW/Baylor, who the fuck should we be concerned about in the Pac? Colorado barely beat a short handed asu team, that game was closer than the final score. Pac is winning games but no one is looking nearly as good as we have so far.

EDIT: And right after posting this, espn shows the league projections. Oregon, UW, CU, asu, just confirms my thoughts

I completely agree - although Washington could get it together on offense, will be tough on defense, and has a very high ceiling with their roster. I made the point in another post: nobody in college basketball has looked great besides Louisville and Arizona. Between the two, I like Arizona. I'm absurdly high on this team.

I missed Washington v Mount Saint Mary's (because why would that be a game) but yikes the Huskies are not a good offensive team right now. Not even close. Washington won 56-46 on 42 / 28 / 50 shooting splits as a team.

Pretty bad night for the Pac.

Utah gets blown out by Costal Carolina (They looked crazy bad)
WSU loses to Omaha (They were leading, no excuse here)
Cal gets blown out by Duke (Expected)
UCLA loses to Hofstra (Made lots of bad decisions once they were down)

Only us and Stanford won.

Tyger didn't look last night but UCLA was bound to revert to the mean. Too much Alford to overcome

Since we don't have a Long Beach State game thread up, I'll give my much-anticipated breakdown here:

I wasn't aware they got rid of the 49ers name and mascot, and replaced that with "The Beach".

They are officially "The Long Beach State University The Beach".

First of all, I admire the bravery in the face of their own utter stupidity. That's really something.

Secondly -- and I'm learning this 30 years too late -- but apparently their baseball team hasn't been called the 49ers since the 1980s. And so the baseball team at least is not adopting "The Beach", and instead remaining what they've been: "The Dirtbags."

To which I say: I'm jealous. Why isn't that us? How did Long Beach State beat us to that in the 1980s? I would gladly throw away "Wildcats" for "Dirtbags". Wouldn't you? I feel like somebody else is wearing my pants.

Watching Washington and San Diego. Just how young is the San Diego coach? He looks like he should be out there playing.

Also, Washington should really have a much bigger lead.

First look at Furd and color me impressed so far. Up 17-0 on undefeated Oklahoma and really moving the Ball well and shooting it very well. The Terry kid is good, really good. Looks like they will be a tourney team. I think we might have 7 tourney teams this year

Who does Oregon have as backup PG when Pritchard is in foul trouble? Oregon is overrated.

When Mannion is out we still have Baker and Hazzard to run the team, and won't struggle. I like our chances against Oregon.
