Big, deep, physical, conservative, ground-and-pound. Home wins over Florida and UCLA, and road wins at USC and at Baylor. Their worst moment was a home blowout at the hands of Oregon, and they lost by two scores at Oregon St. Otherwise, an impressive season, including the narrow loss Saturday at Seattle. It's a great chance for a bigger year than anybody expected. Nice to be playing with house money.

Utah is always well coached and physical. Totally different type of team we will be facing during this run.

Got to match their toughness and take care of the ball.

3. If we play well, we win.

As exciting as this year has been I just don’t get (past poor ticket pricing) why the community hasn’t come out to support the team. Even basketball had a mostly empty upper deck against Southern.

Certainly could be a sign of the economy of Tucson growing weaker but if so, then the marketing department pricing those tickets really missed the mark.

I hear ya. This football program is a great product. So are some other sports.

Living in Tucson is great. Having the ability to attend these games regularly would be fantastic.

When Khalil Tate was the most exciting player in college football that October, and the UA had a 4 game winning streak going, they had ranked Wazzu coming into town.

Could not sell out the stadium. At the time I thought Tucson was done with RichRod, but maybe Tucson just tires of football after mid-season.

What’s the explanation of 3K empty seats at McKale coming off a win vs Duke?

I don’t have any idea how much tickets are up there in the upper area but it has to be more reasonable then the football tickets.

No way McKale shouldn’t be packed to see this style of basketball

Look I defended cat fans in football from terrible pricing but basketball tickets are very reasonable and it’s a 2 hour game.

I hate to see empty seats much less an empty upper deck in a program that used to sell out on a season ticket basis and has one of the most exciting style’s of play in college basketball.

There were tons of empty seats at UConn's last game and they're defending national champs. I guess it's just hard to sell out these games, especially on school nights.

Of the 15,000 people who go to an Arizona basketball game, or the 50,000 who go to a football game, what percentage think of it in terms of supporting the university and its student athletes versus those who see it as entertainment? 30/70? 40/60?

There are so many ways to spend your entertainment dollars, many of which are in-home and a reoccurring charge (cable, internet, gaming, streaming, etc). Arizona athletics has to put a truly compelling product on the field/court to capture whatever budget is left over. It has to be worth leaving the comforts of home, dealing with traffic & parking, dealing with people, eating crappy overpriced food, dealing with drunk people, etc.

We still lead the PAC in combined attendance so it’s not like there’s no support. We are just dealing with being compared to the UA fanbases of yesteryear when there was a whole lot less entertainment competition and prices were a whole lot more reasonable.

Certainly greet points Chi and the competition for that entertainment dollar is real.

The basketball brand couldn’t be any better so you have to wonder if those that say we should move the start of the season to December 1 to avoid football have a point.

Hopefully it was simply a Monday night gane thing and tonight is packed along with Sundays game

I wouldn’t read too much into this. It was a Monday night game against a much weaker opponent.

Plus this is coming off an exciting weekend where everybody watched us beat Duke on Friday night and the FB went into Boulder on Saturday and beat Coach Prime for their 4th straight win. Cats fans had more than their fill of exciting UofA games I’d say.

That's exactly right. I would rather watch a UofA practice than that game. Lute Olsen used to schedule tough non conference teams.

Not sure LLoyd could schedule any tougher OOC games then He did. Problem is no one wants to do a home and home like in Lute’s day.

Sounds like our season ticket base has eroded by at least 25%. Folks will buy up the cheap red/blue exhibition tickets for a scrimmage and I would think a real game is much better but what do I know. Sounds like our admin needs to review pricing across the athletic landscape

I disagree that prices are reasonable. I was looking into buying season tickets but passed because they were $10k in donations just to have the right to buy a seat in the upper corner of mid level (It goes to $25k for the mid level closer to half court). That is a car for the price of two tickets which with a busy life with teenage kids in sports and a startup business owner just is not worth it.

The schedule this year is great, but only Wisconsin is at McKale. Michigan State, Purdue, Florida Atlantic, and Alabama are all neutral site games, right?

As you said 49, it’s tough to schedule true home-&-homes. I give credit for them getting Wisky & Duke. But outside of the one marquee home game they have to fill the schedule with the Belmonts and Southerns of the world. So I can see excitement about Arizona BB being off the charts and still not filling the arena.

Exactly, and since Boomers alone have roughly 50% of America's net worth (let alone disposable $) it seems really dumb to schedule late games within the mid-town traffic bowel obstruction of a retirement community population.

Then it comes back to the AD pricing those tickets to meet the market. I have had my tickets since 83 and I pay less than $1000 for the seat premiums. I have heard that the price to acquire seats are outrageous. That is just not smart in my opinion.

The athletic department could really help our coaches create a daunting environment by selling these unused seats off at a price the Tucson community can afford.

I just want to see a packed house while we roll these drag teams by 50

Add: I just looked and you can buy an upper deck ticket to tonight’s game for $29 plus a $6 fee. Not great but not bad to watch the best team in the nation

Our athletic department supposedly is in deep doo doo financially and they're going to make that up somehow. So yea I'm guessing ticket prices will go up and big donations will be required. I'm guessing about 6 or 7 of our lesser varsity sports are going to disappear as well.

Robbins good enough of a source?

https://swimswam.com/arizona-president- ... port-cuts/

Robbins claimed that the Wildcats’ athletic department has drained the university’s resources, noting a $55 million loan during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic has not been paid back fast enough. About $40 million of that money was meant to be repaid over 15 years with interest. Arizona’s athletic department reported a loss of $591,000 last year despite receiving $31.1 million from the university — the second-largest subsidy in school history.

Interesting discussion here too. According to this site, the UA has been subsidizing the AD for years.

Maybe get rid of the offices they have in DC? Trim down to one dean of equity?

I also heard the school can’t account for millions of dollars.

Seems like Robbins is trying to stop people from looking behind the curtain.

From the Athletic:
Week 12’s top 10 college football games: Hot seats, conference races, and possible CFP shake-ups

No. 22 Utah (7-3) at No. 17 Arizona (7-3), 2:30 p.m., Pac-12 Network

It’s a shame this game has been banished to the Pac-12 Network. Arizona is one of the darlings of this season, racking up three Top-25 victories and looming in the Pac-12 standings just two seasons removed from going 1-11 in 2021. Credit to Jedd Fisch and the turnaround he orchestrated in Tucson. This game is also an example of something I wrote about this week: Neither of these teams is likely to win or even play for the Pac-12 title. They aren’t going to make the four-team Playoff. But they’ve had commendable seasons, Arizona in particular based on recent history, and that deserves to be recognized. And in a 12-team Playoff format, the Wildcats would have an outside chance at sneaking in. I think there’s value in that. I also wish I could watch this game.

Line: Arizona -1
