I didn't even realize the first game was tonight.

ND up 24 on Indiana with only 3 minutes left.

Brent Brennan school of coaching.

https://awfulannouncing.com/college-foo ... ation.html

For a coach who likes to talk the talk, Curt Cignetti sure didn’t walk the walk.

Clichés aside, everything that got Indiana to South Bend disappeared the second Cignetti saw his breath. The aggressiveness that saw the first-year head coach earn Coach of the Year honors and turn one of the worst football programs in the country into a playoff contender was nowhere to be found.

The final score, 27-17, was closer than the game indicated. Cignetti’s offense never made it a game, which is seemingly why he elected to break the surrender index in the fourth quarter of the first game in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.

4th-and-11. Midfield. Down 17. Fourth quarter. Over 10 minutes to play.

And Cignetti punted.

He punted like he was coaching a late-season NFL team looking to secure better draft positioning, except there was no tomorrow for his bunch. And yet, he felt like his team’s defense was also going to be his team’s best source of offense.

this might already have been mentioned in some other thread, but asu has 11 players skipping the playoffs to transfer-out in favor of more lucrative NIL deals elsewhere. penn state's QB2 transferred before today's game. i know football players have long history of sitting out bowl games to up their NFL stock, but come on, it's the mf'n playoffs. hard to tell if this is happening with other playoff teams, since many of them are the deep-pocketed programs poaching kids, but it still makes it tough to take the CFP seriously when stuff like this is happening.

dillingham said it best: "it's funny how, when you keep winning, it gets more expensive to win. It's amazing how that happens. And the more we win, the more people are going to offer our players"

also probably a clear sign that college sports are in a bad place when i'm sympathetic to asu's coaches

Maybe they should have just kept it at 4… or 8

A) I doubt all 11 are transferring out for more NIL money. More than likely at least some of them are looking to be a starter or to start over.

B) It’s not about the timing of the Playoff but the timing around applying for and gaining entry to a school. That has to happen between semesters. Anyone making it seem like these kids are abandoning their teams during the playoff just because they suddenly got a better offer is being disingenuous.

Let’s face it, if the NCAA had any brains they would adjust the schedule for after the playoffs. Finish the playoffs January 1 and open the portal 1/2

TV wants yo drag the season out as long as possible. If a kid isn’t playing, hard to blame them for jumping in

The margin of victory so far is the same as it was last year.

I hope that Herbie that said Indiana’s performance is proof the selection committee got it wrong and shouldn’t have included them had some “analysis” of the committee’s work for SMU and Tennessee too.

Asu only down 17 - 3. They will need to figure out how to get in the end zone though to make this a game

I think ASwho did well to get as far as they did and kudos to them for winning the conference but I never considered them to be national champion material. I think ASU caught a lightning bolt and they were going to ride it til it hit the ground. It may have hit the ground.

They can still win if they can get in the end zone

Well that probably does it. Big yardage plays killed asu and the fact asu couldn't score a td in the red zone
