Help could be on its way for the softball program

This from Hansen's Sunday Notebook:

" Ever-resourceful UA softball coach Mike Candrea, who had everything but a dominant pitcher in 2014, is working to change that. San Diego State junior-to-be Danielle O’Toole, who was 31-10 with a 1.91 ERA last season, hopes to transfer to Arizona and have two seasons of eligibility remaining. The only catch is that O’Toole, a lefty and the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year, has yet to obtain a release from the Aztec coaching staff. If not, she would have to redshirt in 2015."

This will be huge if she can become eligible right away. I always think you have an advantage if you have a lefty pitcher in softball. The last lefty to pitch for Candrea was Wendy Allen, a transfer from Ohio State. If Danielle can be eligible for the 2015 season, I would think we could be seeing one of the pitchers leaving.

My niece play for Florida St and was there #1 years ago and when they made a coaching change, she wanted to transfer. The new staff would not grant the release and she had to sit out a year until she could play at SJST where her older sister still owns all the pitching records.

Seems like this must be the norm in softball

Actually, it's not the norm. Jessica Spigner transferred from Tennessee to the UofA a few years back and was eligible right away, as was Shelby Pendley, who left the UofA to play at Oklahoma. Wendy Allen came from Ohio State to the UofA was eligible right away. Most schools will grant the player their release.
