RIP Car Talk

Post by dovecanyoncat »

Although Tom died a few years back and reruns have been filling weekends since, it appears September 30 will be the potential end for individual stations. I loved to listen to those knuckleheads terrorize their audience while I worked in the woods. At high elevation somewhere in bumfuck Idaho the NPR stations always came in clear and strong. Once, as I was boring a gnarly 400 year old Fir some gal in the Wallawas doing stand exams just like me called into the show. She had found a stump at the top of an exposed ridge where she got service. Her rig was dead in camp and she needed to get to town. Tom and Ray were of marginal use to her but nonetheless they were entertaining, and Tom, whose laugh forever reminds me of a Gila woodpecker on crack, did his bit without fail.
